I thought we already had an ABN.It’s not surprising that our fringe players are less effective than our genuine best 22 players. This is the same for all teams
We have added three above average players this year, Cumming, Peatling and ABN, plus we have had full seasons from Thilthorpe and Milera. We have seen dramatic improvement from Keane and Worrell and the explosion of Daniel Curtin
Looking at players that were not best 22 at the start of the season, Berry and Taylor have improved but are yet to put their position in the team beyond doubt.
We have good depth in defence with Butts, Borlase, Smith and Bond all stepping up when required.
Our back up midfielders, Nankervis, Taylor, Cook, Schoenberg and Crouch (due to injury) are a long way off the pace.
Our back up forwards, Pedlar, Murphy and Cook have really struggled.
Our only back up tall forward is Burgess and we currently have no back up ruck available.
We really need Draper and Dowling to stand up this week. The other options don’t look attractive.
This.

Dont be a Ciao - there is no way Murphy applied a hard tagI think even the thought that Nicks may have employed good coaching, strategy and role players to win a game of football makes some posters physically ill.
Bond is still finding his feet at AFL level, throwing him onto Zorko or Daicos would be rough I think.
MM for sure, hopefully fully fit by week 1 of finals.
Daicos had 8 Rebound 50s equal to the most he has had this yearRent Free.
I have provided the stats on Josh Daicos. Did you think he had a good game?
What Murphy did was not rocket science. He tried to be an arms length from Josh Daicos every time the other Collingwood defenders had the ball. His uncontested possessions (excluding kick outs) were nearly halved.
Is it worth sacrificing a player to ensure Josh Daicos isn’t setting up their attacks? Check the Gameday thread and the GBU from our game against Collingwood at the MCG earlier this year. I think the answer is yes.
Is Murphy the best man for this role? Imho the answer is no but I would not be surprised to see him selected to play this role at some stage in the finals.
We wont do that for team balance, would be too many defendersBond needs to stay in for finals. We can use Max in almost any role as needed then (a 2nd lock down defender, a hybrid attacking defender, an accountable forward or mid). Max has elite IQ and talent, he can play any role with minimal prep.
Somehow we need to add something to this midfield group who are struggling. Max? Curtin? Dowling? Hopefully we see some answers tomorrow.
Hopefully he gets a full game and Smith is subIm excited to see Dowling get a crack.
Yeah you did, you also said it was his lowest possession count for the year, wrong.Rent Free.

I'm fair and square on the Dee train tonightFelt so flat and disappointed with all the Rankine debacle all week but the inclusion of Draper and Dowling has got me excited again.
Go you Crows!!
Oh...and wouldn't it be a shame if Collingwood gets smashed by Melbourne tonight!

I didn't think Peter was playing anymore.Leading up to last week’s game it was highlighted by quite a few commentators that a large chunk of Collingwood scores came through PDaicos, and teams who had recently won had worked out that shutting him down was the key. Not really sure where the JDaicos angle has come from.
Looking through the stats a week before JDaicos had 2 score involvements and 1 intercept in their big loss against Hawthorn, yet on Murphy’s supposed “hard tag” he had 3 and 5 respectively. For inside 50s, NDaicos had 3 against Hawthorn and 8 against us, JDaicos had 5 and 1 which also supports that observation that Nick is the much more damaging player.
Bloody Davis getting involved again ya reckonWait for a late out and Murphy to slide back in
A tag has changed a bit since Neil Kerley in the 60’s.Dont be a Ciao - there is no way Murphy applied a hard tag

29 is too close to 32 for my comfortUmpires
Andrew Heffernan (29), Matthew Young (38), Harrison Birch (40), James Strybos (43)
You try so hard to sound clever but it comes across as condescendingA tag has changed a bit since Neil Kerley in the 60’s.
Were you at the match?
Josh Daicos’s role is to set up Collingwood’s attacking moves from defence. By defence, I don’t mean specifically from D50 since players are not restricted to a 25 metre radius of their positions these days.
How do they do this GreyCrow? Josh Daicos usually has a lot of handball receives (e.g. from other players who receive a mark or a free kick) and short chip kicks from other defenders.
How do you reduce this GreyCrow? You have a player run close to him to increase the risk of providing the ball to him. You also man up on him in stoppages and when we have the ball you try to take him away from the action. You also don’t rotate players on him. As much as possible you want your tag to play exclusively on him.
Did you notice any of those things if you were at the match? If you watched it on tellie then go back and watch it again.
Probably because that role isn’t really required for North and he wouldn’t be able to keep up with McKercher anywaywhy did he get dropped
Isnt J Daicos just as fast as McKercher?Probably because that role isn’t really required for North and he wouldn’t be able to keep up with McKercher anyway
