Impey’s straight up not making it on his numbers alone

Which HB do you think makes it over Amon? And which KPD over Battle?
Using numbers probably isn't the best measure for Impey. Outside the obvious superstars that run through defence he probably gets tagged/has teams put attention into him as much as anyone. Due to his importance on how we play.

I get that AA is a numbers game so yeah I guess he is no chance, but Impey is probably the one out of the 3 that should.

I mentioned the other day you need to be at games to appreciate Impey, he runs defensively as hard as anyone in the game and then slingshots it back with his dash or drops back with the flight to intercept.

It doesn't always work like that.

Hawthorn will very likely finish 3rd for points conceded.

Geelong will finish 4th but there is nobody really in contention. Sometimes it just works out that 6 or 7 players doing a good job equals a better defence than teams who rely heavily on a couple.
Yeah sucks for guys like Impey, who gets way more opposition attention then guys like zorko but never in the discussion for awards like this.

Just the way it goes sometimes. I agree that Impey has been great, especially over the last 2/3 of the season. Rozee and Jaicos moving to half back to get a million loose possessions hasn't helped the more well rounded defenders.

The industry as a whole has become obssessed with Possessions.

Disposal efficiency should also come into it too.

Disposal efficiency is an overrated stat though. It does not differentiate between a 30m sideways chip in the back half and a 50m kick to a forwards advantage amongst multiple defenders.

A long kick to a contest is also considered an effective disposal, even if it is not to a teammate’s advantage.

Jordon Butts currently leads the league for disposal efficiency.

Jake Lloyd usually had great disposal efficiency stats too, mostly because he always played it safe and never took a risk with his disposals. Any Swans fan though would say Gulden is much much better with his disposal, but his stats are lower because he does take a lot of risks.

Also just asked ChatGPT to give me an All Australian team based on metres gained. Here is what it came up with

B: Bailey Dale, Josh Worrell, Mason Redman.
HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Nick Blakey, Karl Amon.
C: Finn Callaghan, Bailey Smith, Josh Daicos.
HF: Isaac Heeney, Ryan Maric, Kysaiah Pickett.
F: Izak Rankine, Jeremy Cameron, Nic Martin.
Foll: Tim English, Max Holmes, Connor Rozee.
Inter: Lachie Whitfield, Jordan Dawson, Chad Warner, Ed Richards.

I mean I am not sure about having Blakey as the CHB (I only specified that the CB, CHB, CHF and FF all needed to be over 192cm, but other than that I quite like that team.

Ryan Maric as a CHF is also vomit inducing

Yes, not ideal, but I think it would be a fun team to watch play. Just created a contested possession team, a contested mark team and a disposal efficiency team

Contested Disposal Team
B: Ed Richards, Jacob Weitering, Tom Atkins.
HB: Jordan Dawson, Aliir Aliir, Tom Stewart.
C: Lachie Neale, Patrick Cripps, Zak Butters.
HF: Isaac Heeney, Harry McKay, Izak Rankine.
F: Shai Bolton, Peter Wright, Bailey Humphrey.
Foll: Max Gawn, Tom Green, Matt Rowell.
Inter: Caleb Serong, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Christian Petracca, Noah Anderson.

Contested Mark Team
B: Ed Richards, Jacob Weitering, Tom Atkins.
HB: Jordan Dawson, Aliir Aliir, Tom Stewart.
C: Lachie Neale, Patrick Cripps, Zak Butters.
HF: Isaac Heeney, Harry McKay, Izak Rankine.

Disposal Efficiency Team
B: Luke Ryan, Harris Andrews, Jacob Weitering.
HB: Tom Stewart, Sam Taylor, Connor Idun.
C: Mark O’Connor, Jack Sinclair, Finn O’Sullivan.
HF: Kade Chandler, Charlie Comben, Joel Jeffrey.
F: Zac Fisher, Ben King, Errol Gulden.
Foll: Rowan Marshall, Rory Laird, Josh Daicos.
Inter: Nick Vlastuin, Brandon Starcevich, Andrew Brayshaw, Will Hayward.

Just putting it out there no Hawthorn defenders? We are one of the best defences in the comp.

Battle, Amon and Impey all should be in the discussion for the 40.
Battle def tbh, really good offensive side with ball winning, ball use, intercepts and rebounds. His defensive side has been elite.

Very underrated

Feel as though Ben King is being really underrated in this discussion. Likely to end up on 65+ goals for the year after this Wednesday.

Second in the Coleman with a game up his sleeve.

Of those he'd be competing with:

King 62*
Naughton 60
Georgiades 58
Thilthorpe 55

Doesn’t do enough outside of just goals

The problem with King is that he offers very little outside of taking marks and kicking goals.

While he is one of the best at doing that, when there are guys averaging similar numbers to him in that area that offer so much more to their team in other areas, he’s not really in the conversation.

Holistically hes the lowest performer of that list. Just like Jack Higgins

Goals are pretty damn important though. In fact everyone underrates them, it is why a key forward can kick 5 goals in a match but somehow get fewer supercoach points than a midfielder with no goals and 32 disposals.
Because for one midfielders set up the goals, but forward talk:

King kicks goals but he’s not far enough ahead. The impact of the others games aerially, rucking or scoreboard impact outside of goals is what separates them.

I guess if every player is doing their job, thats all you can ask of him but Im picking the best overakl playrr

Yes, but there are players who offer similar from a goalkicking perspective that have so many other strings.

It also means that when you have a day where you don’t kick any, which you will, you essentially become redundant.

Comparatively, Thilthorpe was close to best on against Collingwood, and he only kicked 1 goal.

What is a forward in the team for though?

He's the second best in the league at kicking goals and has the best conversion rate of anyone in the conversation by quite a margin. Why is it relevant whether he had an couple of touches on the wing or a handful of hitouts.

5 goals or so isnt enough to ignore everything else
