Autopsy 2025 Round 24 – GWS Giants v St Kilda, Sunday 24 August, 12.20pm, Engie Stadium

If we could just get a crowd of more than 11,270 for the St Kilda match, we will get a total home crowd of 100,000 who have watched us at Giants Stadium in 2025. This will be the 2nd best total attendance at Giant Stadium (or for our home matches in NSW) in our history, and only behind the total attendance of 107,645 in 2017. (While we played at Accor in 2012 and 2013, and Blacktown in 2012, our combined total home crowd in NSW was still less than 100k for those 2 years).

This is very reachable, as our average crowd for the 7 matches at GS in 2025 so far has been 12,676 (ranging from 8,092 for the Fremantle game to 19,248 for the Collingwood game.

Hoping that the attendance is boosted by the farewell for our GOAT Ward (although Toby also haS a case for GOAT) today.
We got close - 10,560

This team does my head in. At our best we are beautiful to watch and pretty much unbeatable, but all too often, in the middle of a quarter we’ll just forget how to play football. Oh look, a St Kilda player, I’ll give him the ball.

I’ll take the win, but that’s about it from today.

That’s the 2nd biggest crowd for a St Kilda match at Giants Stadium, and the 4th biggest crowd this year at GS. I was hoping that with this being Ward’s formal farewell we could have got more.

Anyway with this crowd our total 2025 attendance at Giants Stadium/ NSW is 99,290 - the 3rd biggest total attendance in our history for home matches in NSW (and 5th highest when we also include our Manuka home matches).

BTW just 1 more person attending today, and we would have equaled the 2nd best attendance for our NSW home matches in a season. In 2019 99,291 attended Giants home matches in NSW!

I'll take it.

2025 season attendances at Engie:
  • 5 games above 10k
  • 2 games within the 9k mark - 9231 and 9,770
  • 1 game less than 9k - 8092 - Fremantle game, first game post Easter show is seemingly the lowest.
    • First game post Easter Show game showing a clear trend of being the lowest attended game of the season for a number of years now.
    • 2023: Giants v St Kilda 7,508
    • 2024: Giants v Western Bulldogs 7,747
Our minimum attendance floor is definitely showing signs that it's on the rise across all games but the first game post Easter Show is a concern. It's rising, albeit probably slower than the other games.

For reference, last year we had 4 games less than 9k with 2 of those games being less than 8k.

Great win.

If there's one thing I'd like implemented immediately, it's the banning of kicks from the defensive wing to the corridor.

HH and Ash CONSTANTLY kick those 90 degree floaters that are either intercepted or punched away, often leading to goals.

that is also how we kick start our attack often.

good enough, but not great.
Will be interesting to see if Ash, Finn and Tom make the AA team.
Sam Taylor and Whitfield also a chance.
I reckon that Ash will probably make it and Finn is a decent chance to be named on the wing. Tom a chance for a bench spot but is probably less likely.

I still reckon Seek should be picked

But for yesterday it was pretty low pressure ... expect a lift next game

he wont be, but he is consistently good, but not eye catching enough for the AA selectors.

Austadiums reporting that we had 10,563, 3 more than the Giants match report, which if correct would place us above third biggest total attendance? :D

The 'tremendous trio" for our crowd figure!

But then the Giants website below states it is 10,560. However, I like your stats as it would mean this year had the 2nd biggest total annual attendance in NSW in our history.
