That's a mighty West Coast Eagles captain right there. I liked Allen, it's just a shame he had to lie to fans all season after getting caught shopping himself around. We could had done with some onfield leadership too but that didn't work out either. He can take his money and shot with Brisbane and hopefully we recruit the next Chris Judd at #2.

I dunno man. If I was casually entertaining offers and then my employer dragged me out in front of a media circus to look contrite and say "sorry", I would have mentally checked out.

I'd say that debacle was Mitchells fault more than anyones. Oscar is also a bit of a moron for being so gullible.

Brisbane on the other hand wooed him tactfully and respectfully. It didn't play out in a public forum, yet was known.

What if…..

We kept 1, traded 2 and our hawthorn pick and ended up with 3 top ten or near abouts picks.

People say we don’t have enough high end talent. It’s true. We don’t, so we fill the coffers.

It’s not as simple as the best two this year. The top 3 or 4 are very subjective. This isn’t a Wardlaw and Sheezel type of draft.

So we missed Wardlaw and sheezel because we traded pick 2 and pick 3 in the respective drafts

He wasn't a good leader and wasn't a good captain.

Either way i struggle to imagine what things would be like for the bloke if he stayed on and ran out again for WCE next year.

The idea of how that'd go makes me a bit sick.

After the dismal season he had, the public display.... he'd honestly be on track to Darling territory of jeers and whooping. We all know his confidence was totally destroyed this year and his form terrible. Imagine the pressure he'd be under after being AWOL as the captain, having to drag our historically bad team back up the ladder for supporters that are already scorned with him, tired of losing and frustrated.

Fresh start/environment/teammates/supporters is exactly what he needs. Their medico's will also do him wonders.

If he loved the club that much, why would he hold them to ransom to try to up their offer from 4 years to 6 years, given his injury history?

I don't have any ill-will towards him, but people need to acknowledge that he took the Brisbane opportunity over loyalty to the club he captains.

Someone who bled blue and gold might have stayed and backed themselves in to help the club get off the deck, and earn another contract when the four years are up.
Given his injury history, why wouldn’t he take the extra two years on a contract knowing that he could have another injury-marred next few years and either be out of the league by the end of that contract or be looking at a significantly lower contract to finish out his career.

You’ve missed the entire point of my post. Well done. 0/10

Building the right culture is just as important as drafting elite talent.

Let’s keep players who want to build the club back up from the smouldering ashes and ship off those that don’t. Easy.

All the best for Allen, he’s bled for the club and we haven’t exactly held up our side of the bargain with the way the club has been managed over the past five years.

Why is this announced first on the AFL app from Cal Twomey and not on the WCE app for members?
WCE don't care about their members because they are a business and not a football club.
If their members had votes like at some other clubs they would act differently.
The Club has known since Friday and said nothing.

Whilst I can understand the why, it’s still incredibly sad that a player who was considered such a pillar of our future he was made co-captain at the age of 24 is departing. A WA lad who supported the club growing up

Hopefully, despite the club doing what is in their best interests from a long term list management pov, watching our captain walk a year after our vice captain did the same gives the heirachy pause for thought. Its a deep hole we’re in

With Allen leaving as well as perhaps Ryan, the forced retirements of McGovern and Sheed and the likely delisting of Petruccelle and Jamieson it leaves just 8 players who have been at the club longer than 4 years -

2012 - Cripps (traded in)
2013 - Yeo (traded in)
2014 - Duggan (draft)
2015 - Cole (draft)
2016 - Waterman (draft)
2018 - B Williams (draft), Edwards (rookie draft)
2019 - Kelly (traded in)

Everyone else has arrived from the 2021 draft/trade period onwards and there’s only 4 left from that year (Chesser, Hough, Bazzo and J Williams)

We’ll start 2026 with as much as 75% of our list being in the 1st to 4th year at the club.

McQualter has had this season to explore and assess our list - this preseason should be all about establishing the culture and values he wants to imprint on this playing group

And the onus is on the young nucleus we’ve brought in over recent years to take ownership and responsibility of the clubs future

If we gave Allen what he wanted in terms of a long term deal Barrett and co in Melbourne would call it a self inflicted wound and proof we are not serious about rebuilding, that we are the architects of our demise by refusing to refresh out list etc.

If we push him out for pick 2 then firstly they will argue we shouldn't get pick 2 and then they will argue that it is proof that the club is in total disarray and can't even hold on to their club Captain.

I would feel bad if he had been reasonable with his contract negotiation position, but since he was being so maximalist and wanted a big fat contract despite not delivering anything near par value on his last contract it makes it a bit easier not to feel too bad about it.

Jeez I hope we exploring every avenue in trying to bolster our ruck division.
We all know we need mids, but a quality ruck tapping it down their throats would help a fair too.
Sick of getting flogged in the hit outs.

We won the hitouts convincingly last week against the Dogs and lost by 16 goals

Completely untenable. Even onfield it wouldn't make sense to slot him in the forward line with our young prospects there. We'd have to use him as a second or third key defender as ironically after Simpson ruined him physically playing him as a ruckman at 18/19 we couldn't even use him there.

You do realise it’s very much the club pushing on him to get pick 2 and not the other way around don’t you?

He’d love to stay for anything remotely close to the Brisbane offer.
Correct. Grew up supporting the club, pretty sure he would stay for anything close to a similar deal but the club isn’t offering him one because the nature of free agency and the timing of our rebuild means the club gains more by letting him go. Expecting him to not look after himself when the club is looking after itself is classic fan behaviour. It’s not a one-way street.

Not sure you can say with a straight face that Allen has held up his end of the bargain.

Has been AWOL since 2023, and when he has played he looked comically bad.

What on earth has Oscar Allen demonstrated in the last 2 years to think he deserves anything remotely close to the rumours Brisbane offer?

On the plus side, it might further add to our case for Priority Pick assistance....

Pondering Season 9 GIF by The Office

  • Captain "Flees" his historically bad team after 1 win season :whitecheck:
  • Medical retirement of 5x AA backman :whitecheck:
  • Integrity of the draw ruined with any club (cockburn) that has the fortune to play WCE twice in a season :whitecheck:
  • We legitimately actually traded for Matthew Owies last year :whitecheck:

4. Duursma vs Sharp (Combine) = Duursma

So what one metric has CDT bested Sharp besides from Combine
On what metrics do you think CDT will up sharp.

The ones that matter.
2km trial
Agility
20m sprint
Running vertical

The ones that don't
Standing vertical.

My bet is sharp tests very well.
My bet is CDT doesn't....hint.....this is why he hasn't performed as a ruckman.

Do clubs usually do exit interviews before their last game of the year?

At least we are seemingly being proactive with our list going forwards

Reminds me of the 08 and on season. Shuey and Selwood as kids getting smashed in the midfield every week…
