His journey from a whipping boy to a cult hero and absolute weapon has been a thing of beauty. Absolute king.

100%

He has settled in and increased his incredible pressure rating, but also stopped fumbling and started to really understand the pace we need to play at.

Might be time to rename this thread to Mr September soon. His work without ball in hand speaks for itself. But a bit more polish in the forward 50 and he could have a huge impact on finals matches
Yep, if he can improve his finishing then he will be absolutely unstoppable. He had a couple of bad misses last night but I found it impossible to get annoyed at him because his effort and pressure across the ground is simply unmatched.

Love Shoota. Watching his old mob tomorrow and cheering them on

Personally I still haven’t quite shed the fact he cost us so much to bring across, so struggling to give a tick for effort only. That’s a pass for a bottom 5-10 on our list, not for one of our premier players. Also, we need our forwards taking their opportunities otherwise we won’t win matches.

But, yesterday he brought both the effort and the goals so will feature in my Didaka votes for sure!

If you had to name two players who personify pressure and effort the most at the club, it would have to be bruz and schultz.

Bruzz is the heart and soul of this club, but shultz has to be a close , with the way he competes.
Good observation!

"Going for broke" intensity, or a "motor that never goes off," you'd be hard pressed to find a more intense player than Shultzie in the forward half who has had an excellent season to date. Put he, Jamie Elliott and a well Bobby Hill together and they create problems for opponents.

I've loved this acquisition from the get-go. A spit-fire who works his arse off 24/7/365, is a team player, talks down himself and praises the success of others and the team as a whole.

He's assimilated into the group and has completed his learning curve into Fly's system and has had a significant impact on the team's successes this season.

I cannot wait to see his body of work in the finals where he'll have an opportunity to help lead this team to the heights of their capability.

Peace!

He has become one of our top 10 most important players. One of our premier players. Has won us games this season.

Schultz exerts himself so much on tackling and exerting pressure, it sometimes affects his kicking at goal.

It would be helpful if some of our other players showed his intensity.
If this is true (and I don't believe it is) then he needs to trade off tackling and exerting pressure for more accuracy at goal.

It kills us when we as a team work so hard with so much intensity to only get a point in reward instead of a goal. We were lucky to get away with it v Dees, but in finals we won't.

You have a distorted view of draft picks. He didn’t cost us that much, certainly not for his importance to the team, his effort, and the 100 games he’ll reliably have for us. For every player you imagine we would be getting with a first and a second pick, you have to downgrade that vision with the low probability of that being them. More likely you’d have Jayden Laverde and some random 30 gamer no name on your list for that price.

I’ve always been a Schultz defender and always thought he’d go back to his best because why wouldn’t he. Same with Houston, if you’ve watched these guys play in other colours you know they didn’t just fluke multiple seasons at the highest level and if they struggle it’s either on us or injury because they are proven value, not someone we brought on potential or some random draftee.

Aye, he's a ripper, only knock would be his kicking for goal every now an then.

Finals time now which he's probably not experienced a hell of a lot of to date. I'm expecting he will step up!
He was good when we played them in 2022 from memory

I see some people still hold Lachie’s trade cost against him. Who did the picks turn out to be?

Give me Lachie over 2 x HDMs any day.
The trade cost is largely irelevant, as there would likely been a bidding war with other Victorian clubs if we waited another year until he was out of contract.
In any case, he is now in the top handful of our players.

I’m sure you’re right. I’m in a phase of not watching any non pies games so I had no expectations on either Schultz or Houston other than trying to value them on their trade value or what the media described.

I’m happy with how he’s tracking

I was a big critic of his trade cost last year but that became irrelevant the moment we acquired Houston. Whatever we didn't give up for Schultz, we would have had to pay Port for Houston. In the end Schults + Houston for 2x future firsts (one late that's likely to be eaten up by an academy bid this year) plus a couple of late seconds is a good haul.

His pressure is a lot more effective this year with actual chase down tackles and big turnovers. If he just fixes his goalkicking yips then he really can become a premier small forward and prove me wrong.
