Gold Coast win by 30+ points:
  • (5) GWS versus (8) Hawthorn @ ENGIE Stadium
  • (6) Fremantle versus (7) Gold Coast @ Optus Stadium
Gold Coast win by less than 30 points OR Gold Coast and Essendon draw:
  • (5) GWS versus (8) Gold Coast @ ENGIE Stadium
  • (6) Fremantle versus (7) Hawthorn @ Optus Stadium
Essendon beat Gold Coast:
  • (5) GWS versus (8) Western Bulldogs @ ENGIE Stadium
  • (6) Fremantle versus (7) Hawthorn @ Optus Stadium
The top eight will be finalised when Gold Coast take on Essendon at People First Stadium on Wednesday the 27th of August.
I can see GC wanting to win but by less than 30. They would surely prefer to play GWS at Engie than travel here and play Freo. Hardwick will be looking at a win but not busting their guts.

Na, they'll get Brisbane in week 2 if they get up over us which is a big help. Plus GWS have won their last 10 or so against them including a very uncompetitive loss last week. GWS is probably their worst case scenario. They'd give themselves a chance against us and in fairness we're more likely to lose to them than GWS are.

Fyfe is completely cooked , not playing him is probably more motivational than playing him

Take your opportunities when they come along because no matter who you are you run out of chances sooner than you’d like

Lol at the people saying Darcy was one of our best , at best you could say he maybe had the better of the HOTA but we were very lucky English dropped a few marks he would normally take

No chance. If they get up by 6 goals and then start benching players and let Essendon get on a sniff they risk losing the game. Essendon are a very young team and if they a sniff late they’ll just go all out. If the game as I expect gets nailed away then they will likely roll over and head to their Wacky Wednesday celebrations.

My prediction is a big win for Gold Coast.

I’d go nod.
I know he’s been avg to say the least but he turned it on at peel and he is the type of player who could just come out and have 20 and 2 .

Yeah mentioned in the autopsy thread but watching that the backline is in desperate need of some pace.
We cant can’t carry both banners and worner back there

Personally I’d be dropping worner, made some crucial errors in the contest tonight

Walker or Simpson
hes also the type of player to drop a 4 touch stinker. seriously ridiculous to bring in NOD over MJ, not a chance it happens if fit

This is a funny one. Watching the game, it seemed the Darcy/Jackson combo was dominant, but the stats tell a different story.

Sure..now these figure are for only when Darcy was on English right? English’ figures don’t include his time against Jackson yeah?

Stats don't tell the full story at all. Darcy cleared space, kept the ball inside negating the Bulldogs spread. Any tap English did get was negated and to our advantage.

Darcy's time on English was dominant. English really on had the ascendancy in the first quarter when Jackson was predominantly on him and around the ground in the last when he was moved more behind the ball rather than on ball allowing him to mop up some decent 2 on 1s from hack kicks off half back.

Wagner has been awesome, despite the game or score he’s always put in supreme effort and offers a nice complementary point of difference to Cox, Ryan, and Pearce.

One of those outs that you realise later how big it was, Adam McPhee and Clancee in 2013.

That's a shame. He could probably do with a run
Hmmm. We should invest in one of these at the ARC. Hook it up to a generator and it could even offset our power bill.

Visualise that this is Nat:

Playing games like that could cost them their finals spot. Remember 15 players at Ess are out of contract. Causing an upset because GC kept it close could be a way to the contract extension.

Ibbotson as well.

Agree. I just felt Darcy got more taps. Regardless, he was great. Huge job next week against Witts. It will be fascinating to see if Dimma matches us with two rucks again.
Im torn on Banners. He does some nice things but also blows my mind with some incredibly dumb errors. Has there been a game where he hasn't kicked a relatively easy kick out of D50 on the full? Also, that contest in the last against Jones was a very weak contest. He needs to put more body on. I still think there is a massive opportunity to send Young to Half Back and let him intercept and shoot some missiles up the middle. He looked gassed after Q1 yesterday. Not sure he has the tank to run midfield minutes after such an interrupted season with injury.
Banfield and Wagner out
Young to Half Back
NOD and Johnson through the middle.
