My team's coach getting murdered, then getting replaced by a weirdo, then capitulating in a grand final after pulling a ridiculous pose during the anthem (when the captain booked a plane seat for the premiership cup for the return journey home), then torturing a bunch of indigenous players and creating disharmony in the playing group and creating a shit culture, then spiralling to bottom of the table, then a world wide pandemic, then my captain being a racist, then losing a billion games to an inability to show any form of resilience when the chips are down (read: umpires), then suddenly turning it all around, then a fan favourite using slurs, then...

Walshy was absolutely devastating. Watching your boys play the next week clearly not in the right head space and crying leaving the ground was hard to watch. I was at the Pies/Hawks game the day after it happened and when the players all circled up arm in arm after the siren and everyone realised what was going on and applauded it was a moment footy makes you proud

Probably playing full forward for Hawthorn and leading towards Conor Nash in full flight

I still vividly remember getting woken up at 5.40am on a freezing winter morning to the words "Phil Walsh is dead" and just thinking I was in this weird parallel dream state or something.

It really did put everything into perspective. I was at the Coll/Hawks match too, and rarely has a game of footy felt of less consequence.

Just a tragic story.
