Because he's an expensive albatross around their neck for the next 7 years.

He is why only established players at the rarified level of The Bont should ever be signed to 8 year contracts.

Anyone know why Burton was delisted by Port? He’s been a pretty above average medium defender and he’s only 28. Is he cooked after injuries?

I can see us potentially moving on 10 players:

OOC:
Duryea (guaranteed)
Coffield
Jones
Poulter (not really a role for him if Croft and Weightman play forward)
Johannisen (getting ahead of his physical decline)
Scott
Treloar (if he gets injured again in VFL finals)

Not OOC:
Khamis (trade)
Gardner (paid out)
Jamarra

That would be too many out in such a poor draft. I expect a max of 6. 2 draft 2 trades 2 rookies.

Sorry, badly phrased.

We're not going to cut 10 deep, but I would have zero surprise or think it is necessarily a bad decision if any of those 10 players happened to be among those that are moved on.

I wouldn't move on that many with an average draft hand, a poor and not very deep draft, and not the best free agency pool tbh. Worst year for massive changes. We need smart changes not reactionary. And some of those whilst they may not be A graders, solid depth is better than some random kid at pick 60 who most likely will be cut in two years.

*sorry, didn't see someone replied the same thing above.

I know a bit of it is venting, but the completely writing off of Buss pisses me off a bit. He's a developing 21 year old KPD who is still growing into his body and missed a lot of his first AFL season with his shoulder injury. We've been spoiled by our talls coming on so quickly of recent times, these guys often take 3-4 years before they start playing senior footy regularly and then further develop from there. He showed some good signs this year at times and I think there's still plenty of development left in him.
Buss, Cleary, O'Donnell just need a few preseasons under their belt and they'll be serviceable 2nd/3rd/4th options, getting a big gorilla KPD to help them will help

Treloar is just about cooked.

The stuff of nightmares is paying dollars to players who can't get on the park. That's why Silvagni is not coming.
Treloar on 350 with heavy incentives say 10k a game plus top 5 b&f surely. Club is kidding if he don't get a contract after we gave VDM 3 years

It's all academic if he reinjured himself again in the VFL finals. You'd have no confidence his body holds up another AFL season.

What happened to that old saying that KKP's take longer to develop? Or have people abandoned that now.

Seems we have higher and more unrealistic expectations these days from fan bases. If you're not an A grader from your first game, you're a failure.

Also wasn't there another point about rushing recruits to get 50 games into them asap so they can start to florish and start to reach their top level? Sanders, Freijah, Busslinger, Dolan, etc. Are all way off that mark.

Let's see after a solid preseason. I'm not that impressed either, as yet. He doesn't seem that switched on.

Two of the most disappointing bits of play for me yesterday involved Buss.

Firstly, was the lack of care or basic knowledge of the rules, when he simply didn't bother to stop the behind at the end of the first quarter. As you say Dogs_R_Us, simply not switched on.

The second was early in the third quarter when we badly needed to score, and he gained possession with some forward momentum and could have shown some initiative, taken a couple of steps and kicked the ball into the forward line but instead chose to handball to Libba who had his back to the goals. Whilst the team maintained possession, he chose to give the ball to a teammate who was in a worse position and ultimately passed up a golden opportunity to have a positive individual impact on the game at a time when we desperately needed one.

I see that VDM has resumed his role as this boards villain de jour.

People seem to forget that he was playing some pretty good football until he tapered off over the last third of the season.

The biggest knock on him around these parts is his lack of composure.

Well I see your VDM. And raise you a RILEY GARCIA.

They’re both not good enough draft Dovasten get Flea back Dolan improves don’t need to see Garcia VDM nor McNeil

The average period on an AFL list is 2.9 years. How long does he get to prove himself? Sanders, Freijah and Dolan have all displayed far more in less time and are well on their way to establishing themselves at the level. Why should we expect less of Jed, just because he is a bit taller?

Considering he was injured for the first 6 months or so that means he has until the first half next season to prove himself then.
