Why would we have to give up pick 1 ?

Seems like a bone head move considering he is a free agent in 2 years and we will certainly be able to out bid Sydney and freo in salary
Had he not signed the extension, the club right now would be handing over pick 1 and extras to make the trade. Part of the Barras trade and Oscar compo was always to put ourselves in a position to nab warner. We have the draft and $$$ capital to get it done.

Consecutive posts showing BF at its finest.

If the Swans want Curnow, they will HAVE to give up something of value without digging their heels in.

Going to depend on what Carlton want IF they are open to a trade. They must know their list is cooked, can’t see what would they prefer over pick 1 for a player who is 29 in February.
No need to be condescending mate. We still get to choose how we use our picks. Curnow is Sydney's problem, not ours.

I reckon Chad Warner is back on the table.

WCE OUT: Pick 1, BWilliams, Owies (both with salary)
WCE IN: Warner x 2, Ladhams

CARL OUT: Curnow
CARL IN: Pick 1, Williams, Owies

SYD OUT: Warner x 2
SYD. IN: Curnow

I hate this a lot. We're essentially giving up pick one for a potential free gain in two years. Its no secret he wants to come home, I know there are two potential camps so we aren't a given, but we have cap space to burn and hopefully will start to grow on the field.

No way in hell does that appeal at all. Weak draft or not.

I'm hyper conscious of the Tasmania dilution coming up. Last chances to get it right for a few years before the cream is slurped up.

Not a shred of intended condescension in that post whatsoever Barry, just pointing out two people with polar opposite views on the same subject.

It is Sydney’s problem, but I think Pyke sees the Warner opportunity to be revisited and will pick up the phone to…

Eagle vision at his finest, suggesting that we give up one of our top 2 picks for a player we get for **** all in a couple of years, visionary stuff, I wonder how we all missed it?

What I said was like it or not Pyke will still be keen but don’t expect a bloke who can’t form coherent sentences to be able to read. Saw your contribution the other day questioning another poster’s intelligence in a post that itself didn’t even make sense.

Spotted your 18yo AFL ready ruckman yet?

Probably the list managers. Which means we'll give up 1, 2 + F1 for Warner.

It’s all very well to say wait two years for Warner. We need experience on the field now, the young players need support and we need wins to keep everyone hopeful.
Everyone being players and supporters. Not sure the Reid’s and Shanahans of the world are sticking around for too many one win seasons away from friends and family.

So, what would you be saying if he hadnt signed the extension earlier this year and held off talks until the end of this year. You'd all be creaming your pants that warners' are coming and it would only cost us picks in a weak draft. The talk on here this time last year about the potential of him coming was epidemic. And don't kid yourself, if he came now, it would make us way more competitive than some 18yo. We need to be competitive and can't afford to running around with 30 19 year old kids getting monstered like the suns and giants did.

Finally, I know for a fact that the blues very much like (hard on) CDT. If they're losing TDK and curnow, gaining CDT and BWilliams will soften the blows quite a lot.

Priority 1 this offseason is to fix our worst area - Ruck.

If we start the season with no change and the Flynn, Williams, Barnett, A Reid (part-time) combo we will be starting with a similar centre square disadvantage as 2025.

Reidy - I believe he is out of contract, make him a "too good to refuse" offer and walk him to the Pre-Season draft (yes, it still exists despite us not using it in our darkest days).

Reeves - contracted for 2026, will require a trade, our 3rd should get it done.

Both would be instant significant upgrades on our current set-up. We shouldn't be aiming for A-Grade types just a lift in our competitiveness. These two would pay it off straight away.

In the very unlikely event that Warner became available to us this year and was gettable with pick 1, we’d be insane not to do that trade. A proven A grade midfielder who’s still only 24 with 108 games experience would instantly make our side better

Trading away pick 1 means we likely miss out on Duursma - looks a high end talent but read through the comments here and it’s far from certain he reaches his ceiling at West Coast with doubts over what his best position at AFL level might be.

Saying we can get Warner in 2 years for free is a flawed assumption. There’s no guarantee of that happening as he might decide to stay in Sydney or ask to go to Fremantle which are both realistic options. He’ll also be a restricted free agent so Sydney might well be able to match to force a trade which will eliminate the free bit

The reality is he won’t ask to be traded, nor would be pick 1 on its own be enough to satisfy Sydney. But if it miraculously became an option (pick 1 for Warner) we’d be mad not to do it

Agree 100%.

Many here are also of the belief Warner is a lock in 2 years.

Many of the same posters thought he was a strong chance this year....

If he had a five year deal, yeah cool. I'd get it. Four years even.
Yeah cool. Zero prospect of getting him in his prime.

Not two.

He makes us more competitive now. Sure. Great.
That's a sugar hit and poor draft planning. Sorry. It is.
We won't be close to challenging for anything until 2028 at absolute best. 2026 is embed the new plan. 2027 is to start the climb. 2028 is perhaps where maybe we can start to expect to show some solid gains.

What happens after 2028? Chad Warner becomes available.
By then both of our top draftees now have had two full season under their belt and are ready to go, in theory.

I disagree pretty much with every iota of my soul with pretty much every sentiment of the above. Sure he makes us better now. Sure a draftee is never a sure thing. I have doubts on Duursma too. Its Sharp I think fits our list profile need the most.

I realise I'm in the minority here but it is a hill I'll die on. We need to nail this draft and next year's draft. OA's departure has given us a gift horse. Don't look it in the mouth.

Our choice at the moment is two of Sharp/Duursma/Cumming. Replace one of those with Warner.

My grievance with any Warner trade is that it would cost us more than just pick 1 or 2.

Will be interested to follow Oscar Allen’s journey at Brisbane and how his body holds up. They are known for getting the best out of players, so if Oscar goes up there and has an injury free run, it’s going to tell us a lot about where we are as a club. Supposed to be rich and powerful and once upon a time were ahead of the curve with these things that made us elite.
Looking forward to watching Sandy Brock shut OA out completely next year 😍

2 talls gone with Jamieson and Allen to depart, wouldn’t surprise me one bit if another one departed too, Barnett is very lucky to be employed from my pov.
The majority of draft trade chat has been around midfielders. I believe we will be targeting at least one tall player, whether that be CDT, Curtin or maybe a SA tall.
WC are notoriously very good at concealing their draft/trade intentions, so it’s hard to get a read on things.
One thing is for sure though we are lacking in quality talls and need to replenish, it will happen.
Wouldn't surprise me if we look for a solid KPD or Pure Ruck (would prefer to draft a KPD).
It's the main areas we really need some quality.

Double to hell with that.

I wouldn't give just one or just two.

Tim Kelly trade all over again, albeit for a better player.
