For mids over 65% CBAs only Pickett/Heeney/Richards kicked more goals

He was 2nd for G/A (in the whole comp missing 6 games) and 6th overall for score involvements

27.1 disposals a game at 76% 6.3 clearances 5.4 tackles 1.2 goals 1.5 goal assist's and 9.1 score involvements a game

Just tell me you don't watch football
But, again.....

This is in a team with an extremely offence based game plan, so of course his scoring metrics will look impressive compared to other players who are more defensive minded.

Given the number of elite seasons produced by midfielders, his missed games must count against him.

On season output, the following are CLEARLY ahead of him:

Dawson
Anderson
Rowell
Daicos
Smith
Holmes
McGluggage

Bont is in the mix for a bench or HFF spot with the following:
Heeney
Serong
Green
Callaghan
Butters
Richards

There simply aren't enough spots to go around for the number of midfielders who produced elite seasons - there are going to be some VERY good performers miss out, and Bont's missed games could possibly work against him.

Is this the first time they've announced the list before the H&A season ended?

Be fair who actually besides GC cares about the last game and the squad wouldn’t change

Darcy averaged 2.8 goals to Thilthorpe 2.4

Darcy averaged 3.1 contested marks (in a full season was on track for 3rd highest total all time) to Thilthorpe 1.9

They were otherwise statistically nearly identical on averages

Except...

Thilthorpe beats him on totals and therefore season output, and will rightfully be in the team ahead of Darcy.

If there was any chance at all of Darcy making the team, he needed a massive game on the weekend to get his team into the finals - it didn't happen.

elite, reasoned analysis. in particular those 6 midfielders are locks (With possible exception of Rowell).

Sam Darcy? Lol.

Reckon that one's very much on hype and not performance, considering how many weeks he missed with injury.

He'll be a feature for years to come but just like his team, beat down on a lot of shitty sides and failed to show up against good ones.
Darcy missed to many games to be in this squad - you're right. But he played 5 games against top 8 teams and averaged 3.6 goals per game vs 3 goals per game for the whole season. So he didnt beat up on lower sides.

In general the Dogs have too many players in the squad

also noted for example that rowell had DOUBLE the tackles of Bontempelli. Bont is not squibb, but highlights the attack orientation of the Dogs.

The one that should be there in Rylee Weat doesn’t even make it stuffed if I know how. Just flat out and come out medium forwards won’t be considered but stop blowing smoke every year saying you pick a side to play a game. Under no planet would any coach name a side minus a small defender and a medium/half forward. Dont even get me started on wingers can’t wait till the electric pace of Rowell is named on the wing

The Dogs for some reason have always been looked after by the AA selectors. It truly is a joke.
curiously over history they've won a lot of Brownlows. great individual players, team not so much. that's why im pleased that even though i dont think we'll seriously challenge in september, the evenness of contributions was very evident for us this year, which bodes well for the future.

How is Smith ahead of him?

He played 2 games and despite his higher disposals average the only stat he has more of is turnovers so strong disagree there

Rowell started the year very slow and finished strong,

I again love how you then also try and include Richards in the forwards mix and not midfield when he will be named in the starting midfield

And the point was they were arguing he shouldn't be in the squad at all which again very poor take

We've had 1 brownlow winner in 30 years and he shouldn't have won it

Richards another one who should be marked down by his performance on the weekend when it mattered most for his team.

If he was in the mix for the starting midfield (I didn't have him near it), he shouldn't be after Sunday.

So should Anderson and Rowell be knocked down then for their poor games costing them top 4?

Do the Dogs have the following records?
Most wins to not play finals
Highest percentage to not play finals
Most all Australians in the squad for a non finals side

Anything else?
3 of the top 5 players for score involvements - very unlikely a non-finalist has had that before.

Maybe Geelong in 1993 if score involvements were recorded back then.

They are all out attack and that works very well for AA consideration.

As did Richards who led the league in Goal Assist and Score Involvements whilst also averaging a goal a game
Keep using your stats for a player in a team heavily offence focussed at the expense of defensive considerations...

Of course it's going to look good on FootyWire Stats.

I'd rather players that win me games of football, like a Jordan Dawson, who I expect has nowhere near the offensive stats that Richards has...

Where did all those goals get them? There's a lot more to footy than just scoring, otherwise the Dogs would win the premiership but in reality can't even make the finals
