That is actually completely fair when it comes to Wicked. If you stop watching after Act 1 you have had a lovely time at the theatre watching a show about how a young person who tried to do the right thing became shunned by society helping to provide new context to a classic show.

If you watch Act 2 another night you can convince yourself it is a high schoolers fan fiction that has like 1 good song in it and isn't related to yesterday's production

I watched it knowing nothing about it. I know the stage musical has many fans but...how is this meant to be related to The Wizard of Oz? The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda used to be in a love triangle with Scarecrow? What?

It’s the stereotype of the early 21st century shift of making “evil” characters misunderstood and that the real villain is actually “the man” (aka the wizard)

Really? I found it exceptionally boring, repetitive, with an incredibly un-likeable and uninteresting lead and a poor retelling of history.

If the music wasn't hip-hop it wouldn't be popular.
