Realistically down to the Eagles and the only two clubs with the draft picks that could satisfy the Eagles for a contracted Harley Reid, Essendon and Richmond.

Once the stories started coming out a couple months ago that he's 'narrowed down his circle of influence' and 'started really getting invested in a complete 180 to how he was at the start of the season' I was feeling more comfortable about him re-signing.

Would also help that other than Essendon and Richmond no other club would have the draft capital to even facilitate a trade for him. Asking price in terms of draft and contract would've been enough to scare most clubs away.

Even before we drafted him I felt we could get two contracts out of him, now we got a three year window to build around him and hopefully convince him to stay long term, but for the love of God, Harles...can you at least turn up to pre-season fit this time...please?

One thing where the NRL is WAY ahead of the AFL is players being open about moving clubs mid season. The supporters manage to not lose their shit over it.

AFL it would be total meltdown.

But I guess that is the difference between a game watched live by huge numbers of people, and a game watched on TV by a lot of people.

I'll assume it's $2m as well which is absurd for actual output and he'd want to actually turn up to preseason this year without the spare tyre BUT WC have to pay someone and only 2 years means there's little to no risk.

Good news for the Eagles, and good commitment from Harley. He could have chosen to go almost anywhere, and for top dollar to the clubs that would have happily paid it.

Seems like a pretty good scenario for all parties involved, wce have 3yrs from now to build a competitive team around him and reid is getting well compensate for it. Gives reid the option to go or renegotiate once he sees what the team looks like.

Other supporters forget that with Allen going and Mcgovern retiring there are are very few players on the Eagles list that are on high coin.Other teams would only be after him with ridiculous offers as well.
The fact that it is only a two year extension is good for both the club and Reid.
By 2028 we will see if he is worth more and with Tassie in the market it will be a fun time.
Eagles supporters have had to put up with Vicbias commentary that he won't go to the eagles or will leave early.
Contracts are not worth anything as witnessed by the Barrass contract. Had three years to go and wanted a two year extension and more money.Richmond benefitted by a few players leaving before there contract was up for good picks.
I will just enjoy whatever time he plays at the Eagles.
