Their trading has been elite. Used to be you had to build everything through the draft if you wanted to contend and trying to trade too much got you nowhere. Now it's the opposite.

You can be as critical as you like. Personally, think it's a bit lazy to just look at who we picked and who the current best player available was even if they are 20 picks later like Logan Morris. Just complete hindsight at that point.

Also conveniently ignoring some of the later picks he's gotten right. McVee and Turner have both been ticks. Wouldn't write off Windsor or Lindsay yet, and this is coming from someone who was keen on Curtin and Reid at the time.

Taylor isn't the best recruiter in the comp but he's also not the worst, and I've seen much much worse recruiting at the Dees over the years than his recent picks. I wouldn't be moving him on. If anything I'd be trying to get more support around him. Hire some more talent scouts to work under him.

It's also easy to look at JT's misses and compare to the 1 or 2 stars running around for each team. But you also can't ignore that almost every other team also has a handful of young duds (or potential duds) on their list too.

Having draft picks that are a bust isn't a uniquely Melbourne issue just because other teams also have 1 or 2 good picks.

End of the day the club has hardly brought in any new talent since 2020. Be that draft, trade or free agency our list is arguably worse now than then. Draft is definitely a part of it, but if we'd added anyone half decent through trades it wouldn't be as noticeable either

Spot on. I think it's clearly our trading that has been the biggest misfire of the last 5 years.

Most teams build on their finals list by adding talent. We lost ANB, Harmes, Jackson, Bedford and Clarry shit the bed.
You look at our 2020 team and basically Langford is the only new guy to break into our top 10 players
