Shortsighted view there, mate. He did very well in the others. Are you aware that JL kept him benched a lot last game because of Bont giving everyone a lesson in "never say die"? Team balance at that time didn't suit Fyfe's current role.
That's not great for supporting your argument.

What really worries me most is that we'll be coming off a bye and they won't be. We almost got rolled by North coming off the bye. That said, the crowd alone will be a huge advantage. Not only do GC have no finals experience they'll have never faced off against a huge, hostile crowd either. That alone will be worth a few goals extra for us.
good point about the crowd.
Itd be in front of their biggest ever easily ,Surely?

Agree totally on the bye /no bye- that’s my biggest concern .

Why not? Did I make a mistake?
I haven't said Fyfe is in peak beast mode. He has certain qualities and strengths that are still very useful though, (ie the Serong block in the back half leading to a goal), but defending Monster mode Bont in a do or die at the back side of the centre square isn't one of them. Good on JL for realising this too.
That make better sense?

The sentiments on here re Fyfe as sub seem to echo what JL (and other coaches) have said about the role. It's the role you spend the most time debating, yet which on average will end up having the least impact.

I hope they make a call that's objective rather than sentimental. And maybe that still leads to the conclusion that it's Fyfe, maybe it doesn't. But I doubt that, if we get knocked out, we look at the sub as the decision that broke us.
Completely fair. But hoping like hell we dont cop an early injury at any point to test the theory.

Short sighted is a funny call. I have been saying this for like 4 years... as a freo fan base we have been hoping for his revival for ever, clinging to any decent moments. The reality is your view is the short sighted one, not mine.

Fyfe has his first decent quarter all season against Port a few weeks ago which gave me some hope. But one quarter in an entire season doesnt cut it.

You can support a freo legend, but dont lose all common sense while ur at it.

Really hard spot for Freo with Fyfe.
As a pure sub it works. Probably better at home.

The problem is, if we get past the first week of finals I’d have next to zero hope that he can impact away. His body doesn’t travel well.

Now the real issue is, what if someone is hurt in the the first 5 mins and now we bring on Fyfe for a complete game?

He won’t get dropped. I’m near certain of that, but the deeper the run the greater the risk.

Only change this week will be Wagner out.

I’d like them to be brave and select Simpson or even Walker.

Think they’ll go NOD.

Possibly Johnson.

I can’t see 2 changes.

It's a bit different these days now the sub role is a thing though. I reckon we'd seriously consider dropping Fyfe if he had to play a whole game.

I think if we had better depth, then you probably consider it.

With Wagner out, one of NOD or Johnson will more than likely come in. Fyfe is only competing with the other player, I don't think it is a massive difference in ability and Fyfe brings more experience.

For a while I thought it was a bit overblown, but have now personally seen multiple west coast fans in opposition jumpers at our games this year.

I find it very bizarre, and ultimately supporter bases aren't thatttt different, so presumably there's some sad dockers fan doing it at an Eagles game, to which I say are you ok??
I ran into a sad looking bloke in Hawthorn beanie and scarf outside the 2013 GF. “Cheer up mate, your team just won the cup”, I said.
“Oh no, I’m an Eagles supporter who came over to barrack against Freo”, he replied

🤯

Okay lads and ladettes, visualise this:

We're in the Grand Final (**** yeah!), and it's been a tough slog all game. We were down by 15 points at 3QT, but led by a subbed on Nat Fyfe we've whittled the deficit to 2 points with mere seconds to go.

Unlikely heroes Bailey Banfield and JOM rebound the ball out of the D50 and down the wing, and the ball ends up in hands of Jye Amiss on the HFF just out of range. He quickly fires it into the hotspot, and Nat Fyfe takes a screamer 30 m out, directly in front. The siren sounds, and Nat lines up to take his shot.

How do you feel at this moment?

Should not pick Fyfe. The game has gone past him and there is no room for sentiment in a cutthroat business in the AFL.
I have no doubt he would understand the reality of the situation.
Having said all that there is no way he is not being selected.

I'd be terrified of his accuracy kicking at goal, I think everyone would. I'd want him to kick the shot, hold up the fist and get mobbed by an emotional side.

I'd be content with him feigning an injury so someone else takes the kick too.

FMD…don’t make me contemplate that situation.

What’s that classic politician’s response? Oh yeah, that’s it: “I don’t deal in hypotheticals”.

Out of all the things Fyfe is good at.

Set set kicking isn't one of them.

And conversely would Fyfe trust himself anyway have to play full games for 4 weeks straight.

The sub gives both sides an outlet to use him.
