I havent been watching the Suns that closely but it seems as though he has gone massively backwards?

Is it injury or has he lost favour with Hardwick? Was 3rd in their B&F last year and was relegated to SUB last week against the Pear.
He was the designated ball-mover out of defence in 2024, the recruitment of Noble & Rioli has killed off that role for him and he's been shunted to the HFF graveyard for the most part. Put up some decent numbers in the odd game he's played FT mid when Miller was injured, but hard to say a way he displaces the big 3 in their midfield, especially as their young guns like Humphrey/Rogers/Lombard push for more midfield time.

Contracted for next year. But Brisbane might be open to cashing out before he hits free agency next year.
yes but surely Lions would only do that trade IF they receive OVERS what they will receive as a FA (probably band one compo in 2026). Esp when Lions will remain a top 2-3 flag fave for next year IMO esp with Allan, Annable and likely Draper coming in, elite youngsters getting better and only Zorko (still elite) and Neale key players 32 or over. And their horrendous injury run (5 first team players out one show said this week) likely to normalise

edit - unless they need salary cap relief with incoming FA's and an abundance of quality small forwards already even though Ah Chee may also be leaving

They remain the team to beat this year and next year IMHO

It will be interesting to see the fallout from the Saints throwing big money at NWM, TDK (potentially Liam Ryan, Silvagni, Sam Flanders now SEN is reporting as well). Would players like Phillipou now be a more realistic chance at coming home, think he is OOC at the end of 2026?

I would hope (and expect) that we have already had many conversations with his manager about exactly that

Came across a post from a North Melbourne group on Facebook somehow, where they were tossing out making a run at Jordon Butts. Seems a couple of their supporters were open to sending Tom Powell back to make it happen, given their lack of defence and overabundance of midfielders.

I know putting faith in Nick Murray staying on the park is risky, but I think there's quite a good midfielder in Powell who could blossom with us. We'd likely have to attach a pick too, but I'd be pretty keen to kick the tires on that.

You couldn't begrudge Butts of he wanted to go, and Powell would be good, but we wouldn't be pushing him or the door you wouldn't think

Makes sense for North, but is Powell really a need for us? I wouldn’t be handing over a pick a well. Perfect to swap for Goad

That'd be a straight swap.

I'd want Reid to walk in and say "if you like our Butts, then it's going to cost you Powell"

Probably need to say it in a NY accent but the comedy is there

Bolstering our midfield is our biggest need. Powell's only 23 and was a highly touted mid prospect, has been good despite getting overshadowed by North's other first round mids.

I think our midfield is looking ok, plenty of up and coming options to go with Soligo, Dawson, Peatling, Berry, Edwards, Draper, Dowling etc.

Powell is a good player, but I think KPF / Ruck is a greater need with Tex likely to retire shortly.

They moved him out of the midfield due to having players who could only play there - and then brought in two half back flanks.

I think our midfield is where we can lose matches.

We have two great young key forwards, so that's not an issue. Ruck isn't a very important role, ultimately.

I'm a bit annoyed that Flanders seems to be in the market but he's going to St Kilda (!).

Ross and SOS - name a bigger pair of flogs
Getting TDK, Flying Ryan and SOS (rumoured) and keeping Nas has been a very good off season so far. Anything on top of that makes it next level inc Flanders. They have recruited well the last 4-5 years and do also have some young quality in their squad.

Not a basket case club like Weagles, Kangas and Power.
