And our “soft “draw in the second half is really only because 2024 #1 & 2 teams have dropped offInterestingly when we lost to Brisbane in Round 15, which was the beginning of our 'soft draw' home, we were in 3rd and were in 2nd place the week earlier. So even with a tougher draw home, considering our form, odds are we still would have finish top 4.

Scott was bang on, there's going to be confirmation bias regardless of the result Friday week.On our supposed soft draw. I think I’m just going to have to keep posting this stat because even our own fans seem to have fallen into a trap.
Our record against teams we played twice is 7-5
Our record against teams we played once is 10-1
I don’t know who of the teams we played once did people want us to play twice to make our fixture ‘hard’
Sure our back end was easy but we did play the runners up Sydney a week ago who just knocked off Brisbane at the Gabba.
We played 3 of last years top 6 twice and every top 6 side away.

At the end of the day, if we're good enough, we're good enough. People are going to find a way to discredit Geelong no matter what these days, I just think you have to wear it as a badge of honour.
I do believe we're the best team in it after Brisbane, it just sucks that we have to play them week one.
Obviously, it opens up massively if we win it, and we're playing the Crows minus Rankine, an eight placed Hawthorn, a stumbling Collingwood, or the Giants, with the Giants being the lest preferred outcome IMO.
This is my finals prediction.I reckon if we beat the Lions week one they'll not make the gf.
Best list in the comp but they're inconsistent and returning from injuries.
GCS will get rolled week 1.
I really don’t buy into it at all either way and firmly believe regardless the best team on the day will come out and win. I don’t think who you play leading up has any influence or say on it at all, and I think history backs this up well.Scott was bang on, there's going to be confirmation bias regardless of the result Friday week.

The winner of the geelong brisbane qualifying final will win the flag.
Baring injuries I don’t see us or Brisbane losing the prelim from that position, and likely whoever we play will be a bit banged up and been thru a slog fest the week prior
That is a good list but the order is wrong
We have usually been about the 3rd best team and it seems the same way this year, so no, that's not really surprising. Losing a close prelim - or every now and again a smashing - is about par in these situations. I know we are technically flag favourites this time around (whereas most other years we weren't), but it feels like Brisbane should be.Am I the only one who after 2012-21, can never be supremely confident about Geelongs immediate success? The old Jekyll & Hyde, always wondering whether the off day Geelong is going to turn up, or the R15-GF '22 version will?
Perhaps it's carried me alright in certain ways, because I don't go in to finals expecting greatness and can be pleased if it occurs.
In any case, I usually typically hope we don't embarrass ourselves, and so leaving the PF last year, I was gutted, but not embarrassed.
And the Coleman medallistInterestingly, tonights game means that the Cats finish the season with the 2nd best attack, 4th best defence and the best percentage . Last year we were the 3rd best attack, the 11th best defence and the 6th best percentage.
Agree, Lions should be flag favourites and they are imho.We have usually been about the 3rd best team and it seems the same way this year, so no, that's not really surprising. No way we're 3rd best, it's Brisbane then us easy, but we are in better health. Adelaide and Pies are a rung below. We have usually been about the 3rd best team and it seems the same way this year, so no, that's not really surprising. Fair enough. I have us equal 2nd seed with Adelaide due to them having two genuine home finals. But I accept there's a good argument for outright 2nd. It's not our fault, but we haven't played many proper opponents lately to truly test our credentials and did fail our two most recent tests. But that can easily change next Friday. No way we're 3rd best, it's Brisbane then us easy, but we are in better health. Adelaide and Pies are a rung below.

Does it actually matter how we’re ranked?Fair enough. I have us equal 2nd seed with Adelaide due to them having two genuine home finals. But I accept there's a good argument for outright 2nd. None of it matters, although you whinging about discussion is certainly something. Nobody is making you talk about anything you're not interested in.Does it actually matter how we’re ranked?

It's a discussion forum. "Does it matter" regarding any discussion, is by itself one of the most pointless contributions you can make. If you don't think something matters, then let people discuss it who find it interesting.Who’s whinging?
Ok, let me ask it this way- do you like us being rated flag favourites, or are you happier if we are underdogs? It's a discussion forum. People have been discussing their team's credentials within a season since the dawn of time. It's not essential. But not many topics on a sports forum are. Still, we like to chat about it anyway.
I don't mind either way. I just like feeling free to discuss it with my fellow Cats supporters, knowing it in no way influences the results, but I like chatting about the club I support.Ok, let me ask it this way- do you like us being rated flag favourites, or are you happier if we are underdogs?
I prefer coming into a game as a chance, but not favourites- anything at all that gives any opposition added impetus i like to avoid

The idea that being favourites in a football game could actually influence our chances in that contest has become complete anathema to me. If we are that mentally weak, we are destined for very little success when coming up against any credible opposition.Ok, let me ask it this way- do you like us being rated flag favourites, or are you happier if we are underdogs?
