You get an hour to grab a ticket, so if you want to guarantee a spot then just make sure you do it in that hour

AFL runs finals ticketing though, thats why seats can't be allocated, they hold different tickets for different corporate things etc (They also freeze ticket prices, I'm pretty sure the cheapest ticket is going to be $35, which is actually cheaper than our normal cheapest ticket for home and away games $39 due to the catch all states freeze)

You actually get a bit of flexibility to sit with people with this system, if you all input your priority barcodes together then you can be seated with mates that don't normally sit with you, which is pretty cool.

Ahh okay, the cheap ones are restricted then, that makes more sense

Everywhere I was looking kept saying tickets from $35 upwards but I just assumed they were the bottom tix

Looks like it does cost more for the cat 4 tix ($67 vs $39)

Sadly, I won’t be using my barcode for tickets. The $2,250 airline ticket is a bit prohibitive. DM me if you want my barcode.

I guess they found a way to work with clubs and ensure members get first dibs at 9am to secure there same seat at certain grounds.

Then 10am all members from both sides can pick and choose wherever they want to sit.

General public get access the following day.

As you say AFL has more corporate tickets/things on.

I read an article last year on the AFL GF and the ticket allocation there thats the breakdown for GF day. Not a lot left over for the blue collar fans.

Lastly can 5 year olds get in free and sit on a lap?

Emailed them and they responded in about 3 minutes.

Would be nice to work for their membership team I think. You wouldn’t have a lot to do

It's why preliminaries have the best atmosphere. I was at the 2007 Geelong Collingwood. Close to 100k people and 90% of it was real fans.
Grand Finals are, as you point out, 50%+ non competing club attendees.

If you've got tier 2 access, approxiamtely what time should you join the queue? 10.45?

Don't want to join too early and then get in just before 11, only to be booted to the back again.
