Appreciate not the forum, I don’t know how to create a thread, but Nick Vlastuin is the most vilified, brutalised, under appreciated kent that’s ever played in this shitshow of a league. Routinely molested each week by oppo forwards, continually ignored by the umpires and unsighted by fkwit selection panels like the proverbial red headed step son. The lack of recognition of continued excellence demands a royal commission. I for one love the #1 💛🖤

The media narrative for us was set 20-30 years ago when Essendon and Carlton were on top and our 3 elimination finals cemented it. The same peeps are still in charge or littered through the media and afl organisation.

It’s why every year blues and Essendon are talked up as premiership hopefuls, why we got something like 8 AA 2017-2020 despite dominating the comp yet teams like cats and crows get 12-16 in same period. It’s why Deledio averaging 27 touches gets shunted from AA for Harry o averaging 17. It’s why we spent the last 8 rounds of the year with our eyes bleeding watching Essendon and Carlton in prime time despite no evidence they were good.

The underlying feeling in the AFL/media is that we’re still the 90/00s tigers. I don’t think most even notice it, it’s kind of like how the generally accepted thought is carrots help night vision despite it being a lie to cover the Brit’s using radar to shoot German bombers/planes.

You're right about what's happening, but not why it's happening. It's happening because we're not part of the old school tie club and never have been. Read George Megalogenis' book The Football Solution, it's in there, going back to the 19th century.

dear lord 😂😂😂

Well, time will tell if our dynasty was against the flow, so to say.

I'd take another 30 years in the wilderness for 3 flags around 2060, but tbh I don't want that.

I'd rather be like Geelong, seemingly always competing. We've lost a lot of key personnel - Benny, Penny, Balme, Hardwick etc.

If this rebuild doesn't return us to the top 8 or even top 4...then we're in for an ordinary decade or more.

He's just a salty Cats supporter. There are Geelong supporters who look at our dynasty and know that 2 or possibly all 3 would have been theirs if it wasn't for us getting in their way.

We defeated them in 2017 QF making their run the the Grand Final harder.

We defeated them in the Preliminary final in 2019 after being well behind at half time ( Dusty and Lynch rising in the second half won us that game).

And of course we defeated them in the 2020 GF after they had us on the ropes at half time and had another come from behind victory.

Looking at it this way I can see how they are salty over our Dynasty.

Yes i agree, also it seems any media personality ex player or not is afraid of being Richmond focused. Not saying they should be open supporters like Eddie, Bruce Mac, Lyon there are heaps. But when any of them show any kind of support they get called out. When Carro defends the club she gets called biased.

Its why i wish the AFL community was on youtube more... look at the EPL i never watch the media's takes but i do watch youtube channels that have football analysis

The number of Geelong sycophants in the media is astounding. Any wonder they dominate the awards, the jobs and the favours.

Craig Hutchinson, Huddo, Whateley, Lingy, Dwayne Russell, Liam Pickering, Jimmy Bartel, Steve Johnson, Bill Brownless, Jon Anderson, Mitch Cleary, Josh Barnes, John Harms, Stevie Johnson, Tom Hawkins ... just off the top of my head.

I reckon I'd put "Geelong supporter" on my CV if I was applying for any sports media job nowadays. I'd be a shoe-in.

There is a reason Geelong are like that. Because they have mastered tilting everything in their favour outside of footballing merit. Rules, rulings, insider trading, salary cap cheating, soft cap cheating, cheat ground cheating, fixture cheating, the list goes on.

We were shit for 30 odd years because we were poorly run. We are now well run, so we won't be shit for 30 odd years. But because we are well run, and we don't cheat, we took the sensible step of filling up in the very strong 2024 draft, to give us the shortest and most certain route to contending for flags.

We’ll play finals next year.
