****en Rawling. Over the years he has brought in Corr, Logue, K Dawson, Pink, Biggie, W Dawson and Whitlock as key backs with Chom being forced back to play once McKay moved on. Still hasn’t got it right. Let’s get Lever. Let’s get another key defender. How this brain dead bozzo still has a job is not on him. It’s on The Executive. And shit it should be on the Board as well. :stern look

Can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s almost as if attracting players to small clubs is difficult

In our system I genuinely don’t think Lever would be that much of an upgrade on Logue. That’s how avg he has been playing over the last 12 months.

He can marshall a defence, but that’s only if he is aptly supported by blokes who can take the oppositions best forwards. Thats why the dees always have to have a combo of May/Petty/Turner/McDonald supporting him. His one on one defending is beyond shit and as an interceptor he is on the decline. Avg’d only 1.8 rebounds per game this year, 5.6 marks, 6.5 intercepts and 3.4 spoils.

Honestly don’t think he is much of an upgrade on what we’ve got and I reckon the stats below support that.

Pink
Marks: 5.2
Rebounds: 3.1
Intercepts: 5.1
Spoils: 4.6

Comben
Marks: 5.5
Rebounds: 2.5
Intercepts: 6.3
Spoils: 5.4

Logue
Marks: 4.6
Rebounds: 2.0
Intercepts: 4.8
Spoils: 5.6

Corr
Marks: 4.3
Rebounds: 3.6
Intercepts: 4.3
Spoils: 4.2
We need a KPD that has enough confidence in his own game to be able to instruct others to maintain the structure. He'd need to swallow the ego (like Darling and Parker have) to accept he's there to teach, not win, but he could do that - much more so than May you'd think after the videos of May this week. He'd be a great edition. He doesn't play in a premiership but he's the guy the backline call first after the win.

He'd be a get but will cost us.

Are you an apologist FlyHigh18? Do you like to reason away failure with lame arse excuses? The truth is staring you in the face. :stern look

For a final inspection before we buy what do Levers and Spargos look like in the coveted North guernsey
AI Slop because I can't be bothered photoshopping at this time of night:

If we still sign Spargo - we march on Arden st
I have seen so many interesting responses on here about Charlie that it has made me laugh. Why do people think we are going to trade in Charlie Spargo in the incoming trade and free agency period, I would be gobsmacked if we traded him in. A few years ago we asked the question but he chose to stay at the Demons.

I know this will not be popular but there are two players that I would like to get who would make our team better, Jake Lever & Ed Langdon, Ed Langdon's wing performance in the winning grand final was a 10/10 of pure masterclass role of defending and attacking that just was incredible, look they both had average years this year with injury and poor form the verdict, I think they both need a fresh club and with our exciting youngsters this, would be my trading strategy, both experienced, both know how to handle pressure in games and both only 29 and to get them to the club I would offer four year contracts and these guys would would have a red hot go.

Some people tend to think two three years might be tempting but to get them to us sometimes you have to move the needle or they just stay at their club. Even if we get one of these boys it will be a good start, by my reckoning, we either trade in two or three players and then somewhat the same for the draft, either way that means we need to delist three more players, stay tuned. ;)

I'm not really keen on Spargo. He's an unrestricted FA, so if he goes anywhere it wouldn't need a trade.
Dees would get bugger all compo for him given his age and the size and length of any contract offer from a team.

Not that keen on Lever at 29, not very good 1v1, which I feel like is more what we need down back.
His strength would be teaching and directing the others, but not sure he's quite the Jordan Lewis or Hodge leader.

Ed Langdon is an interesting idea. I doubt they'd let him go and I'd prefer we look at more mid 20 yo players.

Jake Lever only makes sense if he comes with a lock down defender (Butts?) that can play on the Lynch, Thilthorpe types more effectively than Pink.

It also only makes sense with minimum draft capital and contract length (not so fussed re dollars at the moment).

It also only makes sense if Corr is being paid out.

For those saying we don’t need Lever and Butts types, look at our defence for the past 6 years. I also have some ITK that Harris Andrews, his cousin Mac Andrew and Sam Lloyd will not be coming this trade period so choices limited.

Alternative is rolling the dice hoping Dawson and Whitlock develop super fast physically as well as talentedly. (Yes it’s a word).

Archer (L, I) Pink (L, I) Lever (I, R)
Hardeman (R) Comben (I) FOS (R, L)

7th Defender:McDonald (L, I)

We would still be massively vulnerable to the monsters, but it at least seems cohesive, with a decent mix of Lockdown (L), Intercept (I) and rebound (R) types.

It’s a better defence than what we fielded this year, but it probably isn’t worth what we pay in terms of picks, money and the negative effect of not playing Dawson and Whitlock in there.

I'd rather play with 21 than have that soft cooked fraud run around in our jumper. That'll do it for me, that sort of shit will finally put the Norf in North Melbourne, permanently.

I’m not saying I want spargo. But I remember a lot of people on here bitching that we ‘missed out’ on him years ago.
He was good then ... or at least better than he is now.

Really? - most small clubs like Saints, Dogs, Dees seem to be able to do it ok.

I think the words you are looking for ....attracting players to North is difficult....and you would be right about that.
