Recommitted Jordan Ridley [UFA 2029] - name was floated for a move to Brisbane in 2025, stayed

Essendon already stole Prior from us. Pushing out an injury riddled riddler and asking for bank back is not how this works. You owe us one for Prior.

If Riddles wants to come to Lions it will be on Brisbane terms not the other way around. Future 2nd is probably the worth given the salary Riddles is on and the risk Lions will take.

Contracted till 2029 Essendon holds all the cards here not Brisbane. if will be a first rounder or a good player in return

Except that’s not how it works here champ. Player wants out of a rabble club to save his career. Imagine the locker room talk if denied. An already unsettled club with a petrol powered bin fire brewing all year. Wouldn’t that be swell if you’re Essendon management.

No one blinked when Lions, Suns and Giants were bleeding talent to vulture Vics.

Cry me a river.

People absolutely blinked. It's a big part of why the academy systems were set up.

The issue goes well beyond it though.

The ability for middle/lower ranked teams to bring in talent has been an issue in the AFL for a while now.

Free agency and the increasing aggression from players (and their managers) for movement has increased the problem exponentially.

It's not specifically a Brisbane issue. Every top team cops it when they load up to keep the window open. But the addition of the 'free hit' academy players means the spotlight shines just that little bit brighter on the QLD/NSW teams.

He can cry all he likes of wanting out at the end of the day he's is contracted for another 4 years the club wont be letting him go unless they get adequate compensation

Yeah you did thanks to the AFL bailing you out and giving you access to one of the best NGA zones in the league
Hahaha yeah AFL bailed us out. Had nothing to do with drafting the likes of McCluggage, Berry, Rayner, Bailey, Starcevich and McInerney and trading in Cameron, Neale, Lyons and McCarthy over the space of a couple off seasons. Don’t think we landed any of them via the academy last time I checked… That’s the core group under Fagan’s leadership that turned the club around on and off field from 2019 to now.

Our highest ever academy selection is Eric Hipwood back in 2015.

Yeah we’ve got lucky over the past few years with the Ashcroft’s and Fletcher as father sons plus Marshall and Annable as academy picks in the last 12 months but this idea that we’ve become a top side based solely off academy benefits is laughable. We were a rabble for over a decade between 2005-2016 before Fagan came on board and in 2017-2018 we were still a bottom 2 side. From 2019 to 2022 we were a top 4 side before anyone with the surname Ashcroft, Fletcher or Marshall joined the club.

Meanwhile afl about to scrap father son in the first round. Essendon and Carlton have been horrible for decades, and have been talking about getting walker and Bewick since they were 12, yet it’s time to make a change.

Get rid of all of it or none of it. fa, fa compo, father sons, academies, afl assisted priority picks. All of it

But, since being a top 4 side, playing in grand finals and winning one have gained:
Will Ashcroft
Levi Ashcroft
Fletcher
Marshall
Annable
Plus adding Allen and potentially Ridley to a grand final team.
Great time to be a lions fan

But Essendon stole prior from you so makes up for getting Ashcroft x2, Fletcher, Marshall, Annable, Allen, Draper and Ridley for very little draft capital
But, I guess if the shoe fits

Bewick going to be our Nick Daicos and potential number 1 pick moment and the AFL want to heck off F/S from the first round

gagf AFL

Prior post was clearly a pisstake to rile up that one Bombers fan. And it worked

Ah yes I remember fondly the denial I was in when the lions were a feeder club. I wanted to blame the world! But eventually I realised the vfl was right and we needed to fix our culcha.

Obviously you’re not quite there yet but denial is the longest road traveled my friend.
