But Essendon stole prior from you so makes up for getting Ashcroft x2, Fletcher, Marshall, Annable, Allen, Draper and Ridley for very little draft capital
But, I guess if the shoe fits

Yeah so those ins basically balance out losing prior who we desperately wanted to keep.

Ridley did a huge amount of heavy lifting in getting Mckay to sign as well due to a personal relationship.

2 years later he is demanding a trade.

Essendon are in for a huge period of pain here. The fallout from their mismanagement recently is only just beginning i feel.

But, since being a top 4 side, playing in grand finals and winning one have gained:
Will Ashcroft
Levi Ashcroft
Fletcher
Marshall
Annable
Plus adding Allen and potentially Ridley to a grand final team.
Great time to be a lions fan

Yep and I can understand exactly how fans of sides currently in the bottom 4 would be feeling. Would feel unfair.

I remember when we were an absolute basket case in the 2010’s. Average losing margins of 130 points, sub 20k crowds, anchored to the bottom of the ladder, the top draft picks we’d recruit would leave for picks in the 20’s/30’s within a year or two.

Meanwhile the clubs at the top of the ladder such as the Hawks would bring in Burgoyne, Gibson, Gunston, Lake, Hale. Cats would sign Dangerfield, Swans landing Buddy Franklin. Just felt like the top clubs got stronger and my club down at the bottom had no way out. Things do turn though and now we are one of those top clubs recruiting talented players from opposition clubs. Eventually we will need to rebuild and be back at the bottom again whilst clubs currently there like the Eagles and Tigers will be competing for flags. Swings and roundabouts. Ride the wave during the good and the bad.

HS reporting Essendon have denied it and got no indication from Ridley asking for a trade during his exit interview.

Some one is telling porkies here

The riddler wants out and to play for the mighty Brisbane lions. Please discuss restraint of trade and things of that nature at your leisure.

Players noone has heard of playing in teams which shouldnt be in the AFL do not deserve nicknames.

Also if Brisbane think they are a stronger team by raiding players at Essendon and West Coast who dont even get games they are seriously ****ed in the head.

Carn man, rebuilding a club by moving players in their prime in exchange for valuable draft picks is the obvious and correct thing to do.

Brisbane wont have the picks unless they trade Bailey out. And frankly after doedee if I was them I wouldn't do it for what Ridley would cost anyway.

I do lol that 95 % of these trade rumours are for trades that wont happen.

13 losses in a row with the last game being a 95 point belting

The club is a shambles I suspect Ridley won't be the last
A tigers clear out and load up in the next couple of drafts before Tassie come in. Build around Caddy, Kako, Roberts and a couple of the kids that showed a bit this year.

Tom Morris clearly gets some info but you can almost tell from his reporting he puts 2 and 2 together and gets 5.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Ridley and his manager raised some concerns around his injury management during the exit meeting which Morris was made privy to. He then does a bit of digging and finds out Ridley has some family in QLD. Next thing he’s tweeting Ridley has requested a trade to the Lions. Within a couple days Ridley and the Bombers shut it down as rubbish and Morris clarifies that it was “just a discussion and the Bombers convinced him to stick around”.

Hahaha yeah AFL bailed us out. Had nothing to do with drafting the likes of McCluggage, Berry, Rayner, Bailey, Starcevich and McInerney and trading in Cameron, Neale, Lyons and McCarthy over the space of a couple off seasons. Don’t think we landed any of them via the academy last time I checked… That’s the core group under Fagan’s leadership that turned the club around on and off field from 2019 to now.

Our highest ever academy selection is Eric Hipwood back in 2015.

Yeah we’ve got lucky over the past few years with the Ashcroft’s and Fletcher as father sons plus Marshall and Annable as academy picks in the last 12 months but this idea that we’ve become a top side based solely off academy benefits is laughable. We were a rabble for over a decade between 2005-2016 before Fagan came on board and in 2017-2018 we were still a bottom 2 side. From 2019 to 2022 we were a top 4 side before anyone with the surname Ashcroft, Fletcher or Marshall joined the club.
You were a good side, but no flags until father’s sons pushed you over the line.

The same goes for pretty much every team that has won recently.

A key father son or academy player playing a key role. Usually more than one too.

are some clubs as mismanaged as is portrayed or just unlucky. Collingwood for example were paying Treloar and Grundy to play for other clubs and both have been Aa squad members (mismanaged), but also got 3 of their best players, one being the best player in the game through father son and won a flag.

We've been there. It sucks.
You haven't really though, I can't recall North ever having an offseason like Richmond's in 2024 which set their club up for two drafts made possible by moving 4 quality players. We haven't either, but I'm open to this year being our first.

i actually think brisbane can make ridley work but one of two things needs to happen.

either starcevich nominates essendon and is used as part of the piece in any trade so as to not dilute draper compensation

OR

brisbane get something out of west coast for starcevich in a trade enticing enough to essendon to combine with other picks and make a deal happen. something like an end of first round priority pick that must be traded from the AFL.

That's all well and good but my concern we could lose those youngers players as well. if they see a bunch of senior players wanting out why would they want to stay
