RE: ZAK BUTTERS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys,

Spoke to someone very close to the Zak Butters camp this morning.

He has received contract offers of close to $2m per season from both the Western Bulldogs and Geelong. Both are willing to trade for him this year, but think Port are unlikely to let him leave early.

These clubs are at the front of the que purely for financial reasons (they are offering Butters the best financial packages) - and not because he has a geographical preference to live near Bacchus Marsh or the Surf Coast.

Interestingly though, I asked why he wouldn't join a club like Collingwood, considering we are the biggest club in the AFL, and he would be able to play in blockbusters at the MCG every second week.

The answer I got was interesting......

I was told Butters would love to play for a powerhouse like Collingwood, but that as of yet, Collingwood had not yet made any concrete approach, let alone put forward a contract offer.

The feeling I got was that if we did put forward a compelling offer, we would probably jump to the front of the que.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have had the view that we would have a hard time approaching top 10 in the league-calibre superstars over coming years, because we already had the best player in the league who has signed a long-term contract for unders, and therefore we could never really justify approaching someone and paying them considerably more (apart from maybe Bont), without upsetting the apple cart, and justifiably so.

However, considering Nick himself has named Butters as the best player in the league, this may be an exception to the rule.

Considering the pending retirements we have over the coming years, I would be pretty comfortable offering Butters close to $2m a season, considering at the salary cap will be close to $20m by 2027 - $2m in 2027 is what $1.2m was in 2021-22.
StKilda are coming late with a $3.8M 15 yr contract.

st kilda can do the funniest thing and send a giant FU to carlton on behalf of SOS, by restructuring his contract so that it falls below the band 1 compo.

This is the worst thing about him choosing Saints. If he goes to us or Dogs I’ll do a happy dance. We can’t have them benefitting out of this šŸ˜‚

Jack has said, money won't be the factor in his decision on which club he chooses, am I right in that statement?
If so and all he wants to do is play with his best mate, then he's coming to us.
Again with the media, why are some of you starting to believe them? You know it's for clicks AND you know they hate us, right?
Just because there's a higher offer and reporters are saying X, Y & Z, doesn't mean jack sh*t.
Sh*t stirrers of the highest order.
Whos his mate?

I have some great contacts at redneck park (Geelong), the comment I received was they are 95% sure they have him.
