A 4 year knows that mum wears dresses, puts on makeup, eye liner etc.....Dad wears pants, has a beard etc. So when the 2 collide simultaneously as one person it may cause confusion and questions. Kids at that age are very intuitive and curious and I don't want to have to explain why they saw what they saw and complexities that come with that.

I couldn't care less if that bigoted/transphobic.

Things need to be as simple possible for a 4 year old.

And I'd like to think that the majority of parents will die on this hill.
You'll be doing your kid a favor if you teach them the world isn't as rigid and obvious as it seems at home.

I reckon things need to be as complex as your four year old can handle for them because if they get stuck in a world view that expects simplicity and straightforward answers when they are young then that's all they'll ever learn about the world.

Kids are way smarter than that. That applies to everything, not just trans stuff.

buy a telescope ferbs, its reignited my interest in the universe.
I had one up North for years.

I've seen mountains on the moon, the moons and storms on Jupiter, shit you wouldn't believe as well but I think that was just the limits of the telescope more than anything else.

Too much light round here or I'd already have one.

complexity in increments as they get older and older.

Not thrown into the deep end straight away.

i watched and pretty much memorised every plot till season 9, can honestly say havnt watched a single episode post season 9. some times you just have to walk away while your winning.
Yeah i haven't watched it for years, and there was never anything to replace it. I watch Bluey. Mostly cos the kids like it. That has some great moments in it tho.

yeah jupiter is great to view in the dob, was pretty cool the first time i saw all the galleon moons buzzing around her,

saturn is cool as well, only recently was the first time i layed my eyes on her rings all be it they are almost straight on at the moment .

the orion nebula as another observation that always impresses.

Yeah Orion was amazing. An almost psychedelic looking thing. Like clouds around the moon but so much weirder.

I think I'll get one altho there's so much ambient light around here.

Cool. So you'll welcome this dude into the woman's bathrooms happily then? Good to know.

I don’t know anything about that person and I don’t welcome anyone into woman’s bathrooms because I have a ****, but if they have a vagina and not a penis and aren’t guilty of sexual assault or violence against women then sure.

Seinfeld did that. They offered him plenty of $ to do a couple more seasons but he refused. Best to leave people wanting more than outstay your welcome.

Apparently it did get slightly heated at one point because one of our girls is quite androgynous and some people think she’s a boy, the parents of the other team kept complaining that we had a boy playing for us, even after they were told that she’s a girl, so one of the dads from our team told them to pull their heads in.

They grumbled a bit, but the bloke that did it very much has a not someone to **** with vibe and it settled down.

They were just a pack of deadshits.

TBH my experience so far has been very positive, most teams are just there to enjoy the kids having a run around. We played Birrarung a couple of weeks ago and it was such a good vibe. The coaches were great, really classy the two teams were mucking around after the game. That’s what junior sport is all about, and that’s been the majority of my experience.

It’s just this one team (I said club earlier, but I’ll give the club the benefit of the doubt and just put it on this one team), even their coach was a w***er, the ref had to stop the game at one point to give him a dressing down.

There’s another team that looks likely to win the comp, we just found out that they’ve been using U14’s players all season.

Apart from that it’s pretty good.
I’ve got three kids who played/play soccer. Seen plenty of games in the north and east. I reckon if you gave me three guesses i could pick the club.

Same qualifier as you - not all clubs are the same across every one of their teams, (be it good or bad), but there is sometimes a theme across a club.

Agree that Birrarung is a good club - always found them to provide a positive environments. Yarra Jets the same.

I have found that team and parent behaviour is aligned with the behaviours of the coaches and charecter of the team managers to be a good influence. My experience is that it is quite often determined how the coach acts, particularly yelling at the refs or the lines.

When that happens:
  • the kids and parents mimic the behaviour - almost always, and same for a well behaved set of leaders. Coach yells a lot, then generally parents yell a lot (and the kids).
  • whenever this happens, to be frank, the coach is then installing a real loser mentality. Kids want to blame someone else when something goes wrong. When the pressure goes up in the game, and it comes down to how the players perform in the big moments, those whingy players are least likely to be able to rise to the occasion.
  • Finally it makes it hard to get parents to put their hand up’s to ref or run the lines. I’m a TM at the moment, and i have so many parents tell me they don’t want to do it, or pull out of their rostered day on at the last minute.

As a result, i call out any coach who wants to yell at the ref. Theres the occasional let off steam, you might get away with it once or twice a game for a moment, but if you keep yelling at the officials, or even if you do it once with some real venom, i have no issue confronting it. That’s includes my coach, weve had a few uncomfortable discussions.

Most times it doesn’t lead to anything directly, but as soon as you normalise yelling tab officials, it impacts the kids and parents and their behaviours, it breaks down kids resilience, and generally creates an environment where people are scared to get involved. Of course it’s also the thin edge, where do you draw the line when things get more and more heated? I feel it’s better to just make it black and white…don’t yell at the ref.

Bit of a rant, and it sounds like your situation was so much worse, but I wish people were normal (yes, im the most normal person i know), and keep it in check for the sake of the kids and their joy of playing.
