I said we fought against fascists. In short we didn’t want their ideologies permeating Europe coupled with Japan taking power in the South Pacific.

I am not saying we are cleanskins, but I am saying we knew what they stood for and didn’t want them getting too powerful. I don’t think many western countries found the Nazis palatable even when they hadn’t reached their zenith.

Anyway, a lot of this is academic. Sewell needs a jail sentence for his violent assault. If we can’t issue that then this state has got no clout.
I'm saying we fought against them because they threatened British power, not because they were fascists

There's photos of the Queen doing the nazi salute

John Howards father here ran a Christian fascist network

And I'm talking government level here not individual soldiers but prior to joining the war it wasn't a universally condemned thing here

Like i said a lot of history gets rewritten to make motives a lot more heroic

Much like America always says it's liberating the countries it bombs

Be very different if it was an Islamic protest.
This was very much an islamphobic protest, from the nazi pov and the anti migration pov.

Pro islamic protests, I don't think we've seen any in this country (correct if I'm wrong), unless you consider pro Palestinian protests as such.

But they aren't, those protests are just protests against that flog netenyahoo being a vindictive ahole.

I’ve never once bought into the fact America has gone to a war post the second for any reason but money.

Once the full extent of the Holocaust was uncovered I’d say many were pretty sickened.

Anyway, I am not in the mood to fight with people on my side, I just want the government to act properly on this Nazi scum after the assaults they carried out.

Yeh if this isn’t an opportunity to send a message to those brainless gutless sheep dressed in black by locking this peanut up then our law system is spineless

Tie it in with these entitled idiot “ Sovereign Citizens “ who aren’t that far removed from these right wing ahols to make a point that no one is above the law

At a minimum the optics of these clowns attacking indigenous women unprovoked means the government has no choice other than to go as hard as possible imo - assume hate crime charges. Doubt Sewell is making bail either. Not sure what the game plan was though I hope it ends with many gaol beatdowns.

Too late.

This country, and probably most of the liberal democracies around the world have become too soft, hence lack of consequences / deterrences, hence pos like sewell allowed platform to spruik bs on the steps of parliament.
Amidst the War in Ukraine, Genocide in Gaza, the USA dismantling the rule of law and terrorising its own citizenry, threats of Nuclear War, large scale environmental degradation and destruction and Neo-Nazis marauding the streets, it takes a certain type of person to say: “the world has gone soft”.

The world hasn’t gone soft, you have. People rallying on the weekend want to change Australia. They want to destroy our heritage, multi-cultural and indigenous as it is. They want a society of discrimination. They are threatening your way of life and you can’t even bring yourself to label them all what they are: bigots. That’s soft.

“The world has gone soft” is the catch-cry of old men who no longer have any interest in participating in society.

I’m pretty sure if I’m reading Carringbush2010 post correctly it’s more that the law and enforcement arms in most societies have become soft in that they are stifled by woke do gooders , gutless politicians and toothless court rooms to actually reprimand offenders in modern society .

The weight of evidence and bureaucracy that’s required to incriminate someone who’s clearly in the wrong just becomes too painful and long winded for the average human to endure.
Unscrupulous defence lawyers prey on this and most walk free with a big shit eating grin on their face , just as this Thomas Sewell moron most likely will .

This is a very simplistic and narrow viewed reply and presumptive of 'old man catch cry' or in other words very broad brushing, putting all 'old men' in a neat little box, like they're all of the same sentiment and values. You'd be terribly wrong.

For starters, argue that pos like sewell haven been deterred. Good luck with that. They haven't.

Sewell will be fine in prison, that's the recruiting ground.
Will get a seat at the table with no drug debts.

Yeah, it’s those damn do-gooders ruining the world again.

This is what I'm talking about. Albanese and Anne Aly made fools of themselves.

'A Labor backbencher has questioned Anthony Albanese’s suggestion that some “good people” attended Sunday’s anti-immigration rallies amid wider internal unease about the comments.

The member for the Melbourne-based seat of Aston, Mary Doyle, sought to clarify the language Albanese used to characterise the crowds at the March for Australia rallies during a closed-door caucus meeting on Tuesday morning, four Labor MPs confirmed to Guardian Australia.'

Very simplistic, as opposed to your researched and highly nuanced “the world has gone soft” thesis.

Yeah, it’s those damn do-gooders ruining the world again.

I don’t think he is saying that at all. The reference is to the leniency of the judicial system by using ‘woke’ as being too forgiving of the behaviour of Thomas Sewell.

The suggestion isn’t that do gooding wokeness is a bad thing, it’s that the judicial process and individual decision makers don’t have the clout to lock Sewell away for a good decade for assault, propagating nazi gestures, and sending hateful and fascist messaging in a democratic society.

We fought in WW2 to maintain British Imperialism not to fight nazism

There were large fascist movements here and in the UK as well as the US

They were quite fine with Germany being nazi until Hitler decided he wanted to rule it all.

History rewrites it a bit
From a British and European point of view Hitler was a direct threat. Australians may have defended British Imperialism but the threat to Europe posed by the Nazis was existential.

He’s also gone to pretty great lengths to first agree that everyone at the Nazi rally is either a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer but then also disagree with that saying that it’s a “nuanced” situation so I probably wouldn’t try to hard to interpret it.

Yes I'm aware

They were happy with him fighting Russia, it's when he headed West they decided he was evil

What I'm getting at though is that at the time the western governments didn't fight them because they were fascists or nazis, they fought them because they were a threat to their own power

We often wonder why our current government is more aggressive against climate change activists and anti genocide protestors than nazis and it goes back to that point

Who they currently see as their biggest threat to maintaining their own power

Just a side note , does anyone have figures on percentage of crimes committed in Australia by people born overseas compared to Australians that were born here. I’m assuming it’s very low , despite the hysteria

Here’s the thing. There is a concerted effort to blame the “woke left” for every problem in society. Yes, even the rising presence neo-nazis are apparently the fault of woke PC lefties. It’s a mechanism invented so that they don’t have to deal with the uncomfortable reality that corporate society, media and many in government are responsible for perpetuating racist and xenophobic ideologies. It’s uncomfortable because most of our jobs, our consumer habits revolve lives revolve around those same brands and corporations, most of our cultural experience is through that same media and because we voted for those government representatives. In short, we are responsible for supporting it. It’s far more comfortable to blame the greens and unshaven university students.
