2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Few posters gone very quiet lately…

You don't think the sliding door was Nas resigning? He chooses to leave and we likely go backwards and players don't want in. Looking at Carlton and Essendon where players have lost hope you realise how lucky we were to get him to sign on.

I'm elated that we will hit 2026 going all guns blazing but realistically it's potentially blow the place up if this very high risk strategy goes sour.

You "positive" people seem very keen to get a pat on the head for your lack of concern. It's very needy behaviour. Quite unbecoming.

I don't mind the JSOS recruitment as long as it means we're bailing on Aleer. He plays a similar role and is much better at it. If we now throw away trade capital to bring in Aleer to play VFL, we're mad.

Valid concerns over his durability, the obvious conflict of interest and our Carlton obsession, but JSOS does make our team better (which I'm not convinced TDK, Aleer or Ryan do). Key defensive stocks of Wilkie, Howard, JSOS, Caminiti, Tauru and Barrat is plenty for next year.

Perfect time to go all out imo.

Weak drafts, tassie coming in and compromised drafts.

Plus we have had a record of getting value out of later picks.

The mentality needs to be "we can win flags" and we are going for it

It blows up it blows up, but **** we have done something different.

Getting really hard to get a best team together. Leaving out young guns whichever way it goes.

Can't find a spot for Henry, Collard or even Clark in the best 23

I really don't get the concern about it blowing up on us.

Worst case scenario is our recruits are duds and we try to get rid of them or wait out their contracts. We still have a really good core of young kids coming through.
We've also just essentially replaced Josh Battle with Silvagni, and gained Tauru for doing so. Taking full advantage of FA. Shrewd  every club would do that

We have cap space because
1. We banked 2 x 5% approx 1.8
2. We front loaded otherwise we were paying 85% in 2025, basically 3 x 5% going forward or 2.745
3. together that's about 4.7 mill.
That's what we can roughly work out. Then we have
4. A large amount of 1-3 year players on the list, AND
5. No salary cap increases are built into any contract. Apparently only us and Essendon have achieved this.

Who knows how much 4 and 5 are saving us but really even a superficial calculation of what is known numbers 1, 2, and 3) shows that the SC is not being blown up. Only lazy commentators who have agenda's and salty supporters of other clubs are spouting the maxed out SC trope.
Operators like McGuire can see what is happening.
Also, I know it's tied into your point 5 but there is a new CBA in two years when we have a lot of players coming out of contract. This gives us heaps of flexibility in re-signing players.

Sorry if it has already been mentioned, but you guys are too prolific to search 🤔.

Are we waiting on the Gold Coast to finish their season before Flanders nominates us or is it just rumours he wants to come to us?
