2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Well if Windy goes because of momey it is because we chose to prioritise the contracts of the players we brought in rather than his.

Silvagni is getting more money at St Kilda than what Windhager has been offered, so there would definitely be a correlation if that's the way it ended up.
I think there is a world where windys offer would look very similar regardless of our recruits. Linking it every time we get a recruit is just miserable. Foot soldiers like Windhager don’t get big money. With Boxshall, Garcia, hall and Pou developing nicely as mids, Nas stamping himself as a mid and the vets still rolling through, there is a world where windy is fighting to be in the 22.

Don’t get me wrong, I want him to stay but not on $700k+ as he could very well be in the last four selected in the 23 next year given the roles he plays and a depth player there after.

Silvagni is the definition of a foot soldier

The reporting of the JSOS salary, which apparently gets bigger every time someone speaks about it, gives similar vibes to when we got Crouch.

Media was adamant that it was a contract to trigger band 1 when in reality, it was band 3. I highly doubt we are offering enough to trigger band 1. It just generates more clicks from the Carlton fans.
My guess it will be band 2 and all the carton advocates will be carrying on about how it makes no sense as opposed to acknowledging how wrong they were.

I'm happy to be corrected but has Cal gone with, Saints have had Flanders wrapped up since June to Flanders hasn't spoken to any other clubs yet - within the space of a week?

Silvagni is the definition of a foot soldier
Maybe so but he is a key position player changing to a club that didn’t have a genuine afl level key tall at either of the ground 90% of the season.

Let’s not forget, or exisiting list stormed home for a mighty 12th finish on the ladder. Not sure overpaying these guys and avoiding recruiting is taking us very far.

Gary Lyon nailed it tonight on 360… forget the dollars, TDK and Silvagni both make us a better football team. So does Aleer, Ryan and Flanders….

TDK and Silvagni are also both free agents, so you give up nothing other than a contract to get them.

Opposition supporters are never going to heap praise on us, forget the outside noise and focus on how competitive it will be to get a game at the saints next year.

I'd love to know how we could be managing that.

Supposedly paying Nas and TDK $3.7 or $3.8m.

Let's say $900k for JSOS front-loaded.

Total say $4.6mil using $1.7m TDK.

The entire cap is $19.2 million (Including the 5% excess).

That leaves $14.6mil for the rest of the list.

Keeping in mind St Kilda must have paid $16.9mil this year (95% of $17.8mil).

People have suggested the marketing fund, but the entire fund is $35 million distributed to 54 players by the end of 2027. Assuming even distribution that's less than $2mil per club and it includes AFLW.

I wonder if they're anticipating Marshall finds a new home either this year or next. According to the Herald Sun rich 100, he's our highest paid player.

EVERY.
SINGLE.
ONE.

....of your posts you are f'king pissing and moaning. Everyone knows everything the club does you could do better.

We could win the premiership and you'd still be pissing into your cup.
I've been following sports for a very long time (not just AFL)

I've seen my teams win and I've seen my teams lose

I've seen ultimate success, and I've seen frustrating periods of failure and everything in between

I've been around long enough to be right on many occasions, and wrong on many occasions, but I do trust my own judgement

And believe it or not, I'm remarkably consistent. If my club does something I like, I'm happy. If my club does something I don't like, I'm unhappy.

If my club does something great then a series of things I consider unwise (sign NAS then sign TDK for 8 years and JSOS for 5 on big money) I'll have mixed emotions.

Glad I could clarify that for you :thumbsupemoji:

Looks like the Caminiti in defense days are over. Should be good for his development but we need him forward. Can’t have just Sharman up there with cameos from Mason Wood who all of a sudden can’t kick straight and occasionally Keeler.

I’m thinking Aleer, Silvagni and Wilkie as the tall defenders with Tauru filling in for injury and giving him time to develop. Silvagni and Wilkie can use the ball on the way out which will make a massive difference back there.

King, Caminiti and Sharman up forward is much better. Even if only two are available that’s a big improvement on this season.
Tauru played 10 games in his first year with no preseason. I would be very surprised if he was playing VFL next year behind Aleer.

No.

We have cap space in large part due to the amount of 1-3 year players on our list
I agree that is part of it and I referred to bringing in a lot of young players as part of the warchest strategy but we also have clearly front loaded some contracts too over the last three years.

Watch the shift of particular oppo supporters that have told us and club to shut up about father son and academies and to use the avenues available. Now they will complain about us doing just that
Wait until we get Fincher for bugger all in the fourth round of the draft lol.

If he forces his way in then even better.

That is just such an extraordinary stupid article. I'd take the most one eyed Blues fan podcast and I reckon they'd make more sense.

The dinosaurs of the old MSM just don't get how out of touch they are.

Jake is arguing for a 10 team competition by that article. No team at the bottom deserves to find the way out. Its shameful but not surprising. He's drunk at the teat for so long he's now one of the pigs (a good book if you don't understand the reference).

Games played needs adding to but there is a pretty serious nucleus there.

We should have a list any least at Hawks level and no excuses.
There's real potential.

2026 will be the first year since 2011 St Kilda will reasonably have an "if" team.

We'll be sitting here before round 1, reasonably saying "if everything goes right, we're a chance"

It's exciting.

Fair chance 2026 becomes the best or worst year in a long time.

If we are tracking top 4 (or even top 6) this forum will be flying high as a kite.

On the other hand, if we're outside the 8 it could be a downright depressing year, especially if TDK isn't performing. If you splash this much cash on prime-age players and you still can't make finals, you're stuffed. Unless there's major mitigating circumstances like excessive injuries.

It'll be interesting. We'll definitely be a team everyone's talking about.

You're saying SOS has saved the club?

We will see in 3 or 4 years. It's either extraordinarily ballsy and a calculated gamble or irresponsible gambling with our future after a very disciplined early stage of the build.

Having Nas to work off gives us a champion to build around. That is the cornerstone of the side and he inherited that. Our list is in pretty good shape and only results show how good.
