Please remind me, when this year TDK's output was worth 78K per game (if played every game). Paying JSOS an extra 200K may have been less of a gamble, but saying he didn't felt loved when he had an offer tabled before many other out of contract players were indicates we were committed to signing him (whilst still juggling coach decisions and transitions). If JSOS really wanted to stay he probably could've haggled us to up our offer a bit more and we may have obliged.

I just can’t see the club letting Charlie go..

If it was up to me, it’d be:

Geelong
Piss Off!
Geelong...
Lose Willy Wonka GIF

Dean cox commenting on the hypotheticals of trades and looking for the best players for their club...

Honestly, if Charlie has asked for an out, let's let him go while he has value. Why have someone there who is earning big bucks and who doesn't want to be there? Let him go.
Agree 💯..
But.. we also want to pass on a message to all our contracted players that you don't get the benefits of a long term contract AND get to break it when it suits.

Am I in the camp to let Charlie go? Yes.. but only on our terms, and at the very least, a win/win for all concerned.

Probably the only thing SOS was great at when he was here was managing the cap.

I’d suspect they’ve banked cap space by playing the minimum for some time.

if I was a supporter I’d be concerned they becoming St Carlton:
TDK
JSOS
Dow
Carroll
Stocker
Caminiti (VFL)
There's a 2 year cap on that. Which needs to be spent in the next 2 years.

This is the most important signal to players at Carlton their managers and the rest of the competition.

Because he's already earned the big bucks and will be on less going forward.

For way too long, the club has pandered to the players. Sacking senior coaches because they tried to make the players accountable for what they do on the ground. No player is bigger than the club... as Jack found out. We set our price, he used the filth and the mutts to try and drive his price up. The club said you're not worth that, especially after failing his medicals at two club. So he called daddy to get a big payout for his retirement in a few years. If the Aints can get 18 games a year out of him, they'll be lucky.

Where did you get 1.2 million from? Not sure you're uderstanding the 37 per cent increase over the life of the agreement either.

The current CBA sets a planned aggregate TPP, or salary cap, of $15.02 million in 2023 and will rise to $18.44 million by 2027.

That's an extra 3.42m in cap space.

Over and out.

Pretty sure future CBA increases would get baked into contracts when signed.

The picks from the FA compensation land us in a very good position to have a go at Butters now.

2x firsts this yr, with potentially more depending on what happens with Curnow (I don't believe the "no chance he's moving" crowd. Not saying he's gone, but just that the door isn't locked up), means we actually can have a real crack. Particularly if SOS gets us band 1, not band 2.
Have a go at him next year when he’s a free agent, or another gun player that’s a free agent. His draft was a belter so there’s bound to be some juicy options available, ground work starts now though

Because he's already earned the big bucks and will be on less going forward.
So it will COST CARLTON LESS to play him VFL or development league.

Curnow and his management has dropped a big dump on Carlton in PUBLIC FASHION - there is only ONE RESPONSE TO THAT.

So considering we offered him $650K show we valued him over 20% above average. On his output this year when he finally showed a position where he could dominate beyond just being a very good trier, he broke down again. There's risk as we've paid soft tissues injured players for no output for a while now but having been a club that's looked after him a lot of his life, his family, 650K was nothing to scoff at based on the data points over his 10 years AFL professional tenure.

If Mcgovern goes and we don't get Khamis, Robbie Fox would be a capable stop gap whilst Dean develops and HOF is on the sidelines. He plays above his size and knows how to find the pill.

The new CBA doesn't mean shit TBH. Paying 1.7 million/year for a ruckman who has been playing on "potential" for 8 years is a joke. At no point in his career has TDK been worth 900k, let alone nearly double that. St Kilda is a joke. They just pissed 1.7 million a year up the wall to make it look like they're a destination club. Now they're spending 1/3 of their cap on a few players.

I'm willing to bet that if we had matched the offer, you'd be one of the first screaming that the club can't manage the salary cap and that the board should all resign.

Too much power already sits with the players, sounds like contracts are not worth the paper they're written on. Agree to let him go if he wants, but it must be on Carlton's terms not his.

I agree. I'm actually excited about a mini reset. If Charlie doesn't want to be here.. See ya.
we have some super exciting kids coming over the next bit, our youth has potential, new coaching group (hopefully a few more changes to come) and we are in a different position. We just need Crazy Vossy to understand that multiple game plans is a good thing....

Yep. Give me three hungry 18-23 year old talented prospects over one disgruntled 28 year old on $1+ million.

You do realise the 2025 salary cap was already at over 17.7 million... so as of today it's an extra 0.7 million in cap space by 27. Thus any new contracts from now to 27 don't have 3.42 million in leeway to play with. Saints only got some mild play by banking 2 years of salcap for paying 95% of maximum the last 2 seasons. Over and out.

37% Increase

650k x 1.37 = 890k
1.2m x 1.37 = 1.64m

Correct me if I'm wrong
It's 37% over the life of the new deal. The CBA is running for 5 years, from 2023-2027, that's 7.4% per year. Do your maths again.

If you're going to mouth off, make sure that you read the wording properly.

Why? Keep him there when he clearly doesn't want to be there?
Sometimes naughty children need to be put in the corner of the room facing the wall and wearing a dunce's hat - not to help the naughty child- but to help the rest of the class understand that there are consequences to actions. He can go and surf all day every day for the next 4 years or get his management to find a deal that makes Carlton supporters and the Club happy to see the backside of him - or he can come back apologise for being a total DH, STFU and play his best week in week out.
