Prospects I would look at for us:
1. Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier (MID)
2. Latrelle Sumner-Pickett (Small FWD)
3. Felix Kneipp (MID)
4. Tom Burton (MID)
5. Zane Peucker (MID/FWD)
6. Jhett Dahlitz (HB)
7. Tairon Ah-Mu (Ruck/FWD)
8. Brodie Atkins (MID)
9. Charlie McKinnon (FWD)
Expect these guys to be in around our first 2 picks. If a Harley Barker or Lachy Dovaston fell through then I'd be keen on thsoe two as well.
The issue is that there's rarely anyone at u18 who plays that sacrificial role of being a small lockdown defender. That role is typically developed once players get to AFL clubs. No idea who might be available but don’t we badly need a lockdown small defender as well or are you counting on someone on our current list to fill that role? I think Sinn was starting to show he could fill that role but feel like his kicking prowess would be wasted.
Agree. We need a lockdown defender half as much as we need to stop turning the ball over trying to force kicks into the corridor. The issue is that there's rarely anyone at u18 who plays that sacrificial role of being a small lockdown defender. For me, Sinn is that player for us. But tbh this is also why I've been adamant that Burgoyne should play at HB. His defensive instincts and positioning are top notch and I'm not sure his flourishing on the wing
He would never pass a testPeople's thoughts on Tom Lewis from Sturt?
Bit older, but has worked on his physique and aerobic capacity. Seems an ok kick.
Is he too slow? Lacks clean hands?
Slow to decide on his option in traffic?
Worth a look?

Thoughts on Avery Thomas for this role? The issue is that there's rarely anyone at u18 who plays that sacrificial role of being a small lockdown defender. That role is typically developed once players get to AFL clubs.

Could we simply upgrade McClellan to be the lockdown defender? The issue is that there's rarely anyone at u18 who plays that sacrificial role of being a small lockdown defender. That role is typically developed once players get to AFL clubs.

Very athletic and think there's scope it grow with his defensive side but from the games I've watched of him I felt he was more an interceptor than a lockdown defender. So he's got the athleticism and speed to convert into a lockdown defender but whether he has the footy IQ and discipline to do so, I haven't seen that yet.Thoughts on Avery Thomas for this role?
The way I see it isCould we simply upgrade McClellan to be the lockdown defender?
I could see Lai doing that as well. Interesting idea with Rozee, as that quality small forward is a big hole that cant be filled readily, there's not much in free agent space (Rosa?) , nothing that jumps out in the draft either, maybe Jevan Philliopou if we can get down early in the order. The way I see it is
McLennan replaces Burton
Wehr replaces Atkins
I am not convinced McLennan can become a lockdown defender. But I'd upgrade him to AFL because I see another use for him.
Based on our current list I see a whole in the small forward line up following Rioli's departure. The bloke that comes closest in terms of goal sense is Rozee. So I'd throw him forward and I'd use Jez as the run and carry/interceptor off HB.
The small forwards in this draft are very limited for that type. Dovaston, Pickett and Kickett are the only ones I would be happy with. I think Philipou is more a midfielderI could see Lai doing that as well. Wasn’t Rozee a forward in his junior days? The way I see it is

He was, and in his first year with us he was our leading goal kicker. Although in his last year as u18 he was moved into HB by Carr himself as part of that flag they won with North Adelaide.Wasn’t Rozee a forward in his junior days?
Sure I can remember him kicking multiple goals in an under 18’s game.
I’ve never really seen him as a mid, just not enough strength at the moment for that position.
From memory, he was the best midfielder in the country at U16's and was a big reason the club was so keen on him.Wasn’t Rozee a forward in his junior days?

We did take a very large jumper to the draft for him though. From memory, he was the best midfielder in the country at U16's and was a big reason the club was so keen on him.
I'd only do this if the NGA rules stop us from accessing first round prospects in the next 2 years. If not I am not yet risking that future first. The 2026 draft at this stage looks wayyy better and I am happy to wait another year. It's official.
I'd trade down to pick up Sam Cumming unless he's a rabid Cows supporter.
I don't see any weaknesses.
Dunno whether I'd give up a first to move 10 places down but you never know what kinda of megadeal you can be involved in or if you can get value.I'd only do this if the NGA rules stop us from accessing first round prospects in the next 2 years. If we could package 2nd round picks and move up that would be ideal
Sorry when you say trade down I assume you're talking about moving into top 10 pick right? Cumming is a top 15 pick worst case.Dunno whether I'd give up a first to move 10 places down but you never know what kinda of megadeal you can be involved in or if you can get value.
There are plenty of ways to move down.Sorry when you say trade down I assume you're talking about moving into top 10 pick right? Cumming is a top 15 pick worst case.
I don't see how we trade into the top 10 without trading future first (in a straight swap) or perhaps by packaging a few 2nd round picks and trading up for one of Gold Coast's picks. But unfortunately the issue is that only Gold Coast have top 10 picks while Brisbane and Carlton (the other club-tied prospects expected to go within top 10) dont have picks to give away for points. So the market for this is quite limited. But agree that maybe something could be worked out in a mega deal where we give up pick 24 and 42 (our current picks) and future 2nd (say this lands at pick 29) that would be equal to a top 10 pick.
InterestingThings are set in concrete
I think the only way Rozee could be a full time mid, is if he was able to put on 10kgs, not sure he has the body type.He was, and in his first year with us he was our leading goal kicker. Although in his last year as u18 he was moved into HB by Carr himself as part of that flag they won with North Adelaide.
Rozee for me is a HB or HF who can pinch hit in midfield but more of a 80/20 split imo
Is it really?Interesting
