2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

You can survive without an elite ruck but given the choice you take the dominant ruck everyday if you can
Of course

But If I'm given the following choices

1. Elite ruck, elite mid, average key back

2. Elite ruck, average mid, Elite key back

3. Average ruck, Elite mid, Elite key back

I'm taking option 3 every day of the week

Hawthorn Traded out Jaeger O'Meara and a lowly pick, got back a young ruck who had played 15 games in 5 years, and a pick in the 30s.

That young ruck is Lloyd Meek who's become one of the best rucks in the comp.

St Kilda got Hickey and Longer in and they were alright.

From a list management perspective I just think ruck isn't a position you need to prioritise. There's always rucks changing teams. You can find one.

Our recruiters have done really well but could have/should have been Middle Park boy Murphy Reid over Travaglia...sorry Tobie
To be fair, he was passed up by all of the teams that need mids, so we’re not the only one. I also don’t see why Travaglia went so high.. can’t just be running and competitiveness…

If you have average ruck, then you need elite mids for sure. That’s part of the reason we are struggling with Marshall, Marshall is an average ruck (his high fantasy numbers are more from marking and hack kicks forward), couple Marshall with our average midfielders, you get slaughtered in the midfield..

My memory must be failing me when it comes to Soldo. I remember he had a less than favourable medical, but thought we still went in for him - just nowhere near what Port wanted.

Obviously wrong though, so apologies. Play on....

Oscar Allen Compo
Tom De Koning Compo
Sam Draper Compo Maybe
NGA picks.
Pick 7 pushes out past 10 easily.

Flanders was pick 11 in his draft

I liked Hickey more than most
Longer was hopeless, a big disappointment.
How can Meek be average if he is now one of the best
Most ruckman take time

Not sure Finey is a reliable source but...
Finey is a Saints man isn't he? I'd assume he has decent mail.

Windy & Heath for Cmac it is then, 3 way with Petracca going to Dawks. Also we had rumours of Howes at one point didn't we? (I'd prefer Voss)

I'm pretty uneasy over Windy possibly going. But if we've increased our offer and upped our years offered, well - we can't hold him against his will and he's not a million dollar a year player.

Especially if you have a perfectly adequate one already at your club, plus a potentially generational one coming up underneath him, who’s path to the top job he would covet is now blocked for the foreseeable future.

And who rival clubs will surely target in a massive way once he’s out of contract.

Just odd he would choose Melbourne with no coach, don't think they have been mentioned. Maybe typo on the tweet and it's actually norf

This doesn’t really make sense.

If he goes to another club, he is behind existing rucks anyway.

If we don’t sign TDK it doesn’t really alter the fact that Dodson is OOC next year regardless. So it still doesn’t prevent a move.

Oh no, the Flanders love here is going to be bigger than the Stocker love.
Geezuz, gotta hear all that stuff here for another year or more
