List Mgmt. 2026 - What do we need?

We need Young and Darcy to get a clean preseason. Young struggled for a lot of that game I thought.

We need a defender who can help with ball movement and actually defend ground ball. Worner and Banfield are AFL defenders but both of them is one too many IMO.

We need another ground ball threat up front so Murphy can move up field with no issues and/or losing Switta doesn't hurt so much.

We need a couple of mature bodies as depth at Peel.
Yeah, I reckon youngie gas his worse game for the year.

Simpson fast tracked.
Dudley to come back 5kg lighter.

If someone like Sam Walsh is available I’d take him. I’m Lawson Humphrey is available I’d take him. Either/or

If we replace Worner and Banfield with Simpson and Humphrey we’re much better off.

Johnson and Erasmus to play a full season.

Whan.

Trade Freddy to Port

He was sore. He was limping significantly towards the end but kept pushing

Yeah, Young was clearly cooked. So was Moose until he resurrected like ****ing Jesus to play one of the great quarters.

All things stay the same, nothing will have as big an impact as Young hitting round 1 fully fit.

Not exclusive to just 2026 necessarily - but I must be the only one who is concerned with the future of our backline.

Pearce was good tonight but is 30 and his availability will always be inconsistent. Ryan turns 30 next season - was average this season lets be honest, and I think his form is just in-line with playing years of football with lots of strapping and carrying this side. Ryan is just beat up now and these guys don't have as much time left as we think.

Cox and Chapman had down years for me. Chapman is someone who I really believed in but he didn't show any improvement this season.

Similar to Chapman in some ways - Draper & Walker aren't on the career trajectory to date that I would have hoped for based on their early showings. Draper in paritcular falling off the face of the earth is really bad. These 3 need to really come online or take steps next year.

We've then had to turn Banfield and Simpson into defenders on the fly whereas Davies & Murphy have shown absolutely 0 despite being on the list for like 3 years.

Clark unfortunately is easy to tag. McDonald delist material for me.

So what's the future of our key positions and drive really looking like? Swinging Young down there, albeit something I think we should start doing again more, is nowhere near enough.

Always hear about this group being a "unit" but it just seems like it's going to become very vulnerable soon. We can't just expect these guys to hold up forever - which is why I'm so mad our season has ended this early.

I'm mostly just comparing it to our midfield and forward-line now as a whole and I think its nowhere near as future-proof as them.

I don’t think we need much.

Need to consider leg speed: Sharp, Simpson, Wagner, Switta, Walker and even Johnson offer that.

We need guys like JOM, Banfield and Frederick not being best 22.

We need to work on kick outs from behinds.
We need Cooper doing the kickouts and Ryan marking them.

We need a couple more attacking defenders with elite kicks so that we get fumbly Chapman and Banfield out of the back 6.

We need to find a some players from the current list as it doesn’t seem like we are linked to any real stars and we don’t have a heap of draft collateral. Reidy and Brodie leaving gives us maybe a 2-3rd rounder combined.

We can’t be serious contenders with both Banfield & Worner down back, they’re both just meh. Walker or Simpson have to replace one, preferably both. Walker tightens us up and can lock down but then we have him Pearce who can’t kick, Simpson could give us more bounce and I reckon gets the chance first but can he play tight checking?

Erasmus needs to continue to improve with Fyfe gone & JOM fading. Johnson will take some of that time in the middle too and Reid will get a few looks next season.

Shai imo needs to just be told play footy, don’t worry about the game plan and the other 22 guys will play the team game. Just attack attack.

We ain’t getting Kozzie so Dudley hopefully works his ass off pre season and builds into a player. He has plenty to work with, could be a big bonus if he gets a proper pre season.

Let's be honest, we got a hefty dose of good fortune this year that we have failed to take advantage of and that we may not get again - a pretty healthy list, the most benign draw possible
I am interested that people think we are so close and just need a bit of tinkering. I'm not so sure.

but did we?

was a horrible draw and a season in which you needed a ridiculous number of wins to make the 8

Unfortunately, Saints have loaded up

I don't think so.

SOS went to Carlton and brought over a lot of slop from GWS.
Now at the Saints and bringing over the slop from Carlton.

Saints actually think they are putting together a strike now list (because of NAS's two year ticking timebomb)

But that ain't happening.

They are going to spend a lot of money on Leek Aleer and he's not very good. If players like WIlkie get jack of the big money they are dishing out and moves on they will be stuffed.

I'm worried about who we could lose - I hope the rumours about Jackson are dead, I hope Erasmus stays, and maybe we should consider trying to hold on to Reidy.

Send Freddy back to Adelaide and give us Georgiades ;)

We need Dudley to have the preseason of his life. He’s not tall enough to not be quicker, stronger and faster. I really like what I’ve seen, I just want him to have more impact.

We need to stop rewarding Frederick for running around with his arms out like a zombie and not tackling. It might work during the season (Urgh) but finals he’ll be exposed. Put your head over the ball son!

We need Banfield. He’s adapted really well to the backline in a short period of time. Makes mistakes but does many important pressure acts. Not our worst. There’s more important areas to correct.

Forwards need to stay out of each others way more often.

A small Lauchie Schultz type forward. Somebody that brings high pressure and tackles hard and crashes packs. We miss him. Surely the WAFL has a few floating around.

We need to move NOD on. A typical left footer that prefers his dominant foot but can’t even kick with his right, even a little. So many deficiencies in his game. See ball get ball type of player but not even good at that.

We need to sign Erasmus. He started to look really good midway through the season.

We need a fit Switta.

We need to Trade and draft well. Let’s throw a couple more mature age recruits (like Voss) into the mix.
