Stewart top two on ground in a final again. Enright never once was in his entire finals career. Facts hurt.Yes, about time you repented on that fallacious Enright comparison.
It's not just about Atkins, but it got updated to that title a couple of years backDaz has praised Axe over the journey, so he's already on the record.
Given this thread is about Axe, and you're here, what say you??

Yet we somehow still have posters suggesting that he is not the dream recruit for every single club in the competition.Geez I used to bag the shite out of Blicavs. How good had he been
First year Blicavs played, I thought he had the potential to be like Koutafides in terms of his tank and size, but that he had a long way to go. Years on, more valuable than Kouta in terms of his ability to play any role (except small forward) and was the reason for a rule change (third man up).Yet we somehow still have posters suggesting that he is not the dream recruit for every single club in the competition.
Our ability to deal with so many teams in so many ways continues to rely heavily on the incredible level of competence and tenacity our #46 brings to every single role he's given out there. And often he's performing a whole bunch of these roles within the space of just one game of footy.
So I'm revelling in every single masterclass we get to witness from him now. Because despite our differences of opinion regarding his overall worth as a player, I believe we can all agree on this one thing...
We will not see the likes of him again.
I had started to secretly want to trade SDK because I thought he wouldn’t get back near his best.
Last night was a lovely reminder of how happy I am to be wrong in life.
This is one of those stats "they" don't want us to know about, but SDK's defensive 1v1 loss % is only 18.6% this season. That's in the elite category for key defenders. Along with 5.5 intercepts and 4.8 spoils per game he's actually been more useful than most people give him credit for. He looked out of sorts when Henry and Stewart were missing, but has been pretty good since we've had the full defensive gang back.He was better but Brisbane's talls are either kids or finished.
The real test will be in a prelim when hes got to help keep either hogan/cadman or thilthorpe/fogarty quiet.
I think I've been a bit unappreciative of Jack Bowes. Mea Culpa. The guy can play.
That 2m pass to Close that he adapted under pressure, who handballed to Smith for a running goal as well. I'd love to see a package of all of his 16 or so touches because I think he made the smart play basically every time.I didn't think he could show that level of composure in a really hot game. There's no way 18 months ago he sees Dempsey and hits that pass rather than blazing away. Really classy performance on the big stage.
You should go listen to Atkins on 3aw today.Im pretty much bang on about him. Was a very ordinary player in his first 4 seasons but to his credit has improved to the point he is now an average midfielder. Elite defensively but poor offensively.

He's also said in interviews this season that his primary focus this year has been to improve his attacking game and effect with ball in hand. Massive ticks in those areas for 2025. Is quite a smart ball user these days. You should go listen to Atkins on 3aw today.
He was asked a question about the teams of offensiveness and his role (something like that)
And he said 'I'm a bit of a pessimist so I set up to defend first. If we are being offensive the ball usually sails over my head'.

great post to start the thread.Rightio... following Stanley's demo job on Lobbe last night, I thought this would be an interesting thread topic.
- I thought we got absolutely stiffed in the Stanley-Christensen-Pick 21 swap, and that a 24-year-old StKilda reject had nothing to offer a club with finals aspirations
- I thought Mitch Brown would be a very good AFL-standard third tall defender or Tom Lynch-style forward
- I thought there was no way we would be able to match Collingwood for the next five years following the 2010 demolition job
- I thought David Spriggs and David Clarke were the best prospects in that promising early-2000s side
- I thought Moloney and Prismall would come back to really burn us, but that Ryan Gamble would prove to be a spud.
Who else? I'm awaiting for mea culpa regarding the supposedly useless Guthrie and Blicavs...
Oh I can update it…great post to start the thread.
love the last line.
Holmes and Dempsey easily top two last night IMO. Blicavs third.Stewart top two on ground in a final again. Enright never once was in his entire finals career. Facts hurt.

I agree with your assessments of his defensive and attacking capabilities, but I have reached a different conclusion - i.e. elite defensively but poor offensively = very very good.Im pretty much bang on about him. Good point. I thought Stewie was very good but had the first two a long way in front of everyone elseThe measure of a very good team win is when nobody can agree on who was best on.
FWIW SEN’s panel gave Stew the three votes last night.
Could argue for any of Stewart, Dempsey, Holmes, Mannagh, Atkins, Blics etcThe measure of a very good team win is when nobody can agree on who was best on.
