We need midfield depth. Our current midfield bats two players deep and one of those is highly useful in the forward line

Interesting. Nicks has talked a lot about this, but when whips were cracking in the qF without Rachele and Rankine he was forced to do things he hadn't done all season because he hadn't exposed enough of the list to play midfield - Laird and Keays in the middle.

I think that's only half the problem, the other half is we don't have a Bailey Smith or Max Holmes level midfielder to get goal side and destroy teams.

They're missing some key pieces from their premiership side, plus they took a risk with Neale that backfired.

In and out of the team and has some good attributes that we lack in the middle.

Suns a good shot at beating Lions Saturday night. “Dream final” for the Suns who will match Lions midfield with Neale out and have better forward options

Fast track Draper as much as possible and try and get 2 mids via FA or trade. The time to be aggressive is now to fix this glaring weakness.

Draper will get there, and I think we'll see more of Curtin at CB next year. In the meantime we bring one in, Oliver, Bailey, whoever.... I dont care who it is, just do it. Get Rankine back in there, roll Rachele through there more and youve suddenly got a pretty handy midfield group.

Then youve got Peatling, Soligo and co dont have to do the heavy lifting and can do their bit as 2nd tier guys.

Every time we throw him in there he makes a difference, we just dont do it often.

But he should still be part of rotations.

What do you mean “returning to that well”? We’ve hardly been to it at all, and when we have the results have generally been good.

I don’t think a full time midfield role is needed, however he should be part of the rotation.

We were very much a part of the NWM chase so we can be confident the club is looking to add to that part of the ground. Merrett would be a great option, as would Oliver depending on how much salary the Dees take on.

However, if we don’t, there are still enough players on the list to improve the midfield mix.

Rankine back instantly makes it better.
Rachele spending 20% time in there makes a big improvement.
Curtin upping his minutes adds another dimension.
I still have a lot of confidence in Draper being a fantastic player. He needs the Curtin treatment next year of plug him in, leave him there until he adjusts to the pace of the game, and I think we will reap the rewards.

I’d love us to add a gun, but it’s not all doom and gloom if we can’t.
