Our players last night reflected our coach - timid and indecisive. I'm not going to go full Swanny, but it's getting harder to see this guy getting us to the flag.

If we don't make the grand final next year he should be moved on. We still have 4 - 6 years of potential with this core, if we waste another year I'll hand the pitchforks out myself.
We all know if we make finals, regardless if it’s the same as this year facing elimination in week 1, he’ll be there in 2027. It’s the Freo way.

People like you are the reason this club isn’t going to win things.

As a fanbase we need to start demanding more, expecting success and not settling for this.

The top sides don’t. Do you think a Geelong fan would be happy with a first round exit vs Gold Coast? Do you think a Collingwood fan would?

I loved the game, I had a great time too with my best mate, but ultimately we fell short. We need more, we deserve more.
Nah, it's more like people like you, I agree with old mate. Year of the shite fan is over

Christ Brayshaw all by himself in the middle of the ground three minutes to go and Coxy goes the conservative route to his mate just knew we were going to turn it over.

Who would've predicted that David Swallow was the elimination final villain?
I don't dislike him in the slightest & the free kick was deserved, but he could've (not could of) at least had the decency to kick into the man on the mark & not just his fingertips

More importantly why didn't Cox stand the mark, he would have blocked the kick..

If that is the case I shall send them a very sternly worded letter.

The response…

You mean the fan that won’t accept mediocrity. If you’re genuinely happy with losing an elimination final, knock yourself out. Go join all the happy clappers down in Freo saying “how proud they are of the boys”.

Unfortunately we have a culture of failure ingrained in our fanbase that has been cultivated by year after year of being let down by this team and this organisation.

To repeat, everything was in our favour - home ground advantage, almost 60,000 people in the stadium, an opponent that had never played a single final in their history.

We still lost. If you’re genuinely ok with this and think the club is on the right track, there is nothing more that I can say to convince you otherwise.

I know it makes no difference at all but the free kick was paid with 52 seconds left so how was there only 9 seconds left when the goal was called thought you only got 30 seconds
A few seconds to retrieve and start the 30 seconds. Only need to start your approach (not kick it) within the 30. The approach can take 5-10 seconds. Several seconds in the air, several seconds for the goal ump to adjudicate and give the all clear. Pretty easy to chew up 43 seconds.

Some thoughts after having slept on it:

- Geez, one point losses are f*cking brutal, especially in an elimination-type final. I just can't help but to replay in my head all those little moments that could have made the difference had things gone our way, not only in dying moments but also throughout the game, and if I'm doing it as a fan, I can't imagine what the players must be going through. Having said that, upon reflection, Gold Coast were the better team for most of the night, they were definitely not overawed by the occasion. Even if they didn't have that many players who had finals experience, I don't think you can deny the impact of having a coach who has been there and done that.

- I take some solace in the fact that as far as the playing group is concerned (Hardwick is a bit of a knob), there isn't any real d*ckhead factor with Gold Coast. They played hard and fair, and some of their transition play from the halfback were simply devastating. And Rowell is an absolutely beast...man he is so hard to bring down, reminds me of peak Fyfe days when it took 2-3 players to bring him down.

- Not that it's any excuse, but losing 3 of our fastest soldiers in Switta, Wagner and Johnson really impacts on our ability to blunt their speed of the halfback. Yes, every team (aside from Geelong) is dealing with injuries, but in terms of matchups, this 3 players really would have made a massive difference last night. And just on that, it is clear as day that we do need some speed off the halfback line, but we do have the players (Walker, Simpson etc) to rectify that, so hopefully it becomes an area of focus in the offseason.

- Had we won that game last night, that last quarter by Pearce would into Freo folklore as one of the all-time great quarters.

- When the light shines the brightest, you really see who is cut out for finals, and who isn't. Thilthorpe got found out on Thursday night, and unfortunately, so did Freddy last night. I really don't think he has been as bad as some of you have mentioned here, but it would take some serious mental fortitude for him to turn that around, can't say I'm overly optimistic of that happening.

- Mr Nathaniel Fyfe, thank you for everything, I count myself fortunate to say that I have watched you play footy at the height of your powers.

- And Bigfooty, thank you for the season that was. I'm not a regular poster, but I do find it somewhat therapeutic/cathartic to post my thoughts to a group of people who are as wild and passionate as I am about this team of ours. When all is said and done, I will choose to look back at the positives and all the fun we have had, especially with all those crazy-ass comebacks. Yes, it sucks to be where we are right now, but at the end of the day, it is just a game. And to all you dads out there, I do hope you have a terrific Father's Day ahead of you.

The top sides don't see success because their fans froth at the mouth over a loss and shit on all their players after a game. Clubs that do that implode (see Carlton). Are you forgetting that the Pies didn't even make finals last year?

Do you think your angry rants on bigfooty get read out at board meetings? "Oh well Swanny1234 is unhappy with our season guys so let's sack JLO and pull a successful hardnut premiership coach that is both available and willing to move to Perth out of thin air"

Something that is proven to work (in football, workplaces, life) is SUPPORT. Embracing people for who they are and the strengths they have (and that can range from a coach that is meek and mild like JLO or soft spoken and never played high level football like Fagan to BIG CHEST Vossy or even to the annoying mosquito fleet at Hawks).

Freo have been making impressive in roads regarding culture on and off the field. The people that are there want success, perhaps even more than you or I. The Lions hadn't seen success (in recent years) before big names started to request trades there. But they built an environment people wanted to be in and contribute to. We are in that part of the cycle now.

I am devastated we let our opportunity slip this year. But I also firmly believe the club is heading in the right direction. The success WILL come.

In reality we've had three succesive finals
Lions
Dogs
GC

and only been able to win one.

2.12 on the clock and we lead by a goal after dominating the quarter, the best comedy writer could not make up the script whereby we let them score seven points from there. All those pre season match sim scenarios JLo, amounted to nothing, Mr Defensive, stop watching TV and trying to emulate what real teams do.

Although you can't really put the loss on a moment in the game, I still think the lost contest on the wing, where they marked it was really pivotal. Sure, even if we managed to get it to ground they may still have crumbed it.

After Mac kicked the goal to level it up and it went to the middle , I suspected they would get the clearance and pump it in

Of course they don’t, and wouldn’t expect them too.

What I am doing is expressing my opinion, and if enough people express the same opinion the club may act.

I have been underwhelmed all year, I know people might find that odd, given we won 16 games, but the way we’ve been winning always left us open to a debacle like this. I think we’ve won a lot of close games on pure talent alone, and that has papered over the cracks of what is a very underwhelming and underprepared coaching group.

I’m worried about the future - next season I see Sydney back as a contender, unlike you I’m not as convinced we’re building towards top 4 - I see us being perennial 6th to 10th place side and not making a dent anywhere beyond the second week of finals.

I want more, and I think we as a fanbase deserve more.

Probably drilled to go back and sideways there honestly. Cox going backwards isn’t the worst thing, They killed a bit of time with it.
The inability for Ryan to get the ball closer to the boundary & for Voss and Darcy to not kill it out is worse than the kick back.

Agree tho, if Cox hits Brayshaw maybe we go inside 50 and score to put it to bed. Maybe Brayshaw then goes back and we kill more time.. dunno.

That game last night marked the end of my footy viewing for this season.

I couldn’t care less who wins and who loses in the remaining Finals series including the GF.

When you throw in that abomination of an entertainer Snoopdog for the GF I rather watch grass grow than watch him and a GF played between either two Victorian teams or an outside team that has been gifted stars since its inception.

Of course the icing on the cake for our season will be if Murphy Reid is robbed of the Rising Star award.

We’ve said Geelong will drop down the ladder for years, it never happens.

Seriously I couldn’t be more jealous of those pricks.
I remember going for Geelong in a GF because my dad and a good friend were long-suffering supporters and they had deserved one so richly in the late 80s.

Geez I feel like a sucker now 😆

Oh ... And I would still sack the coach on Monday. Losing in week 1 isn't good enough in your 6th year
Agree.

16 win season literally does not matter if we don’t do anything in finals.

Might as well have finished outside the 8 with the rest of those trash ass teams.
