This thread is hilarious.

Geelong fans having to engage extreme mental gymnastics to just ignore that players like Joel Selwood ever existed.
Joel Selwood has been retired for 3 years, he can't hurt you now

That’s sir 4 time premiership Joel selwood to you. Don’t worry, he can’t tear you a new one anymore. You are safe.

3 years after retirement and you still can’t move on from him

Thank you for making my point.

Your post content to username is spot on. Chefs kiss.

I don't know whether he dived or not, but you can still be a diver and a great player. Those 2 things can be true.

I agree Cam does milk it a bit, wish he'd just focus on contesting and cracking in more.

Still one of those players that isn't consistently elite, but like DeGoey can crack open a game.
Thought exactly the same thing.
He’s an absolute game winner when he’s up and going.
An incident like this isn’t going to ruin any reputation he may have but, I’d rather watch him breaking tackles and kicking goals than flopping.

Man, you've struggled this weekend. Peak cope by BigFooty's most salty clown.

What made you decide to begin dressing up as a cat person for Geelong games? You’ve been doing it for a while now haven’t you?

Unfortunately the game rewards this shit these days.

You can blame the likes of Ginnivan and Weightman who really exploited it over the last few seasons if you like but until the AFL deals with it we're gonna see shit like this (or even like that free kick Watson got earlier this year after diving in front of goal when he received no contact from an opposition player at all.) All the forwards do it, even strong talented players like Raynor and Paul Curtis who really don't need to, because the way the game is umpired is so bad so often and umpires don't watch the game properly.

So you would be ok with 100 incidents a game of players getting lightly nudged and flopping to ground??
No, and that has nothing to do with the argument. If the AFL fines Rayner for staging there he can just lawyer up and appeal the case. The AFL will be paying up, because they can never prove that it was a dive.

Lawyer up?? You mean the afl tribunal lol. You can get done for staging involving contact, it just has to be grossly exaggerated in the context which it was.

It’s not a criminal trial mate, it’s just opinions, the footage is shocking

Dangerfield is one of the worst in the comp for it and has been for nearly 10 years. Probably more responsible for the epidemic of staging, diving and generally piss weak play that plagues the comp these days than any other player.

Another incredibly physically strong, talented player who somehow thinks being a diving squib is necessary.

The two he got frees for not the only time he did it either..

Thing is, it was exaggeration rather than simulation. O'Conner is technically not allowed to shove him in the back like that.

Players often exaggerate to try and get the free. I think sanctions only apply if you do something to make it look like an opponent infringed when they didn't at all.

At least I think that is how it works.

Damning behind the goals footage of a long session of umpire sooking from Raynor prior to the Raynor Flop™ on First Crack last night. Worth a watch for the hilarity alone.
That’s a horrible look from Rayner. He was right up in the umpires face very animated about something (as close as you could be without getting physical) and then the umpire pays the free 15 seconds later. Surely the AFL isn’t letting something like this slide without some sort of fine or stern warning?

I think there's a few additional aspects. I don't think what Rayner's done is staging, by the letter of the law though, he's clearly dived twice.

The rule needs to be changed. If the first free kick had been warranted, clearly it would be better to have been taken at the spot where Stengle was taking his kick. If the second free kick was there, it would be better to be taken from the middle of the ground. If the infringement was particularly bad, you could pay a 50 on top of that if you really had to.

Guthrie had to be better than that, no getting away from that fact (it doesn't happen if the first one didn't happen, would have been nice for the AFL to acknowledge that), but when the imbalance on the impact is so great between a full forward getting a free kick compared his direct opponent, do we need to look at the taunting aspect from forwards after they've been gifted a goal like this? As it stands, Rayner has absolutely nothing to lose by doing what he did after the first goal and I'm not sure it's the sort of thing that should be encouraged.
