To no5.

Board change huh. More jobs for their mates via the "independent nominations committee"...

We actually going to see a football focused board.
Few will believe this … but the board functions ok - and like most others is focused on strategy rather than operations.
That said, Williams was a terrible appointment as the Director of football on the board.

Thats my opinion aswell. We need to keep improving each year, its been 30 years, we can't be still hoovering around the bottom half of the ladder again next year after possibly trading out Charlie,TDK gone,JSos walking and whoever else should go this year. As a paid up member for decades,I for one have just about had enough of where the club is at,its really unacceptable.
We need to bring in players, staff that will bring success in the near future.
I feel like this year’s performance was indicative of player attitude, not capability

This makes judging where we will be next year so difficult

Everyone switched on and pulling in the same direction then I think we climb up quickly. Another year of indifference from senior players then we will be done the bottom half again

Walter and 6, don’t let the door hit you on the way out Charles. Also open to a Hayward, Campbell and Sydney’s first pick scenario. Use their first pick to on trade elsewhere for a runner who is best 22 and we turn Charlie into 3 pieces we desperately need. Our supporters won’t like this trade as the feeling will be that we have to win it on paper, but what any list manager will tell you is that the trade in it’s totality is what matters the most not the optics of winning or losing on paper. Hayward is an upgrade on all of our forwards minus Harry and Charlie, Campbell would arguably be the best kick at our club on day one and Sydney’s first pick would on traded to land us a player who fits a list need around run and carry.

Curnow, TDK, SOS, Lemmey, maybe Gov, no HOF in 26’… talk about stretching our key position / aerial depth.

Curnow stays in my opinion but I can kinda make sense of the Walter suggestion.

On Fox Footy, Jay Clarke gets to quote himself as a source from his own Sun article

Classic Murdoch media strategy.
and when Walter doesn't come on and pick 6 is a miss (like all but 1 pick 6 ever....) What then?

You don't trade superstars for a deal without any certainty. At worst you're taking those 2 and someone guaranteed to be a good soldier for 5+ years.

Draft picks are bloody overrated and so is potential.
While there's never a sure thing, drafts classes have been performing well from 2021 onwards, even if they haven't always had a genuinely elite group at the top.

This is definitely a draft where aside from the Queensland academy trio you're not really getting that elite group, but the next tier are there in good number. Happy to take two bites at that group, and hopefully Dean slides out of top 10-14 calculations.

Lots to play out there still, with Dean having probably the same talent level as Kalani White, just realising it a little better at this stage, but that can easily change over the course of a pre-season. Hopefully recruiters are paying close attention and ease off from the prospect of forcing us to trade picks in that 5-15 range (once you factor in FA compensation and academy bids).

I'd look strongly at 6 and Walter, maybe another player on the fringes, but some of it would come down to where Walter's fitness and drive are at. They haven't looked great lately.
I’d be keen on Walter and 6, def would be overs, but it would make a huge difference to their side too.

I wonder if gc is willing to trade former academy players, because in future it could be used against them for getting access to top talent if they just trade them after 2/3 years anyway. Why should they get that leg
Up?
Because they're fostering talent in a state that's struggled for it for a long time, but the discount has been adjusted and can be adjusted again.

As things stand, there's a very real chance they miss out on one of their top 3 academy graduates this year, but I'm not across their 2026 and 2027 prospects and how willing they are to part with a future first to give themselves more points this year.

Agreed.
Jagga, Harry Dean, Cody Walker + young talent we saw this year (HOF, Carrol, HOK) is the longer term vision.
Now we need to bring in some senior talent with the cap space and go for it.
Cats, Pies dont rebuild through top end of draft. It hasn’t worked for us. Not working for North. Why would we do it again.
This is another year to hit the draft for mine, particularly if Charlie wants to leave. We will have the draft capital to do so.
We are currently looking at pick 9, which is likely to become #11 or #12 and an end of first round pick.

If Charlie leaves, it will most likely be to Sydney, you can just smell it. Likely becomes their first rounder and some steak knives, perhaps a 2026 first as well. They will want capital to cover their academy prospects as well though. It would become a balancing act. They have Max King, Lachlan Carmichael and Noah Chamberlain who are probably second and third rounders.

We aren’t getting Gulden no matter how much we (wet) dream. Names like McInerney, Campbell, Roberts and Bice, all arguably elite ball users come to mind or perhaps Jesse Dattoli, a small forward/mid we were linked to last draft and has seen senior action already. If we are to accept steak knives then their first and future first rounders have to be on the table.

If Curnow wants success, perhaps Gold Coast does enter the conversation. They have two, possibly three first round academy boys to match this year Uwland and Patterson are top ten material and Addinson in the mix for first round. The first rounders they have acquired are pretty much spoken for. Players would have to be on the table. Geelong the other mooted destination surely do not have enough draft capital to interest us. I won’t say it couldn’t be done, but there would need to be some imagination used.

Really need to hold out for a mega deal from Gold Coast- they have been insane with all their recent giveaways of picks over recent years . Charlie brings in as bigger media hype / kids jerseys as nearly anyone not named Daicos. AFL would love it. Jed and two picks or another player and a pick. Has to be massive .
Still, better for us to get Port in the swirl and land Butters...

Cripps and Clarke are tied at the hip.

Poor Cripps, first he had 20+ Carlton players he had to carry for years and now he has Clarke attached to his hip. :(

Would people be prepared to pay Butters 2 mill/year? Cause that’s what he’ll want

We don’t know if Butters would demand $2 million a year. No player in the competition is particularly close in salary to TDK’s $1.8 milliin and NWM’s $2 million a year and they are being paid by the same club. Maybe Butters would ask for a more sensible $1.2-1.5 million a year. Every individual is different.

He is better now than NWM. Port are trading him before he hits FA. Why would he not be asking for terms that match his? TDK would be the minimum imo.

All I’m saying is everyone is different. TDK signed $1.8 million pa at a club that are behind at least 8-10 clubs in terms of contending. Butters might take less and go to a club he feels can contend (not necessarily us). But if he signs for $2 million pa, he would be well within his rights as one of the leagues best player.
