Personally I'd only take 2 academy kids (the obvious two). Hope the others fall to the rookie.

wasn't the worst one, be nice to have Ed Richards. The whole period in the last lets say 5-8 years in the draft has been average at best and poor if we are being honest.

Yes, we lived off past successes in the rookiendraft, but honestly we shouldn't be relying on that. Consistently failing to find a good player with top picks for years has been nothing sort of a disaster for us.

Yep I mean when was our last great first rounder? This actually shouldn't be that tough as they all have a lot of form.

Logan I'll give a pass but we need him to get on the park, but who else bar Blakey who was a gift has been a positive first rounder? It is not sustainable butchering first rounders every single year

Yep.

Draft based on needs, I don't care if the club doesn't really rate players for a needed role, just pick the best you can, that's all you can do. Draft picks and our needs are known quantities.

What the club is doing to talk to players re: trades or FA isn't usually a known quantity, nor are the reasons why a player might not come to us (though there are some obvious ones). So it seems odd that people confidently state that they know we're not doing anything.

Surprised about Leidler thought he showed something but guess that’s the footy business. Thankful for Francis going but it must be that we are offering something at Hamling you would think or else we throw our hat in the ring for another KPD

Fine with Francis going. Hopefully this means Hamling is staying. Still should pick up a KPD somewhere.

Carmichael to replace Leidler effectively. Probably should pick up a medium defender to replace Fox, Paton. McNamara might fulfil that though, and handy forward too.

Yes, I always was in the trade Chad now camp and I stand by it. Silly move signing up a bloke who's not committed long term and who's form fluctuates from superstar to B-grader depending on how he feels on the day.

Maybe not as silly as it seems. If we let him go to WCE, it would've been a Dawson situation all over again. Basically our choices would've been take whatever token offer WCE came up with or they'd pick him up in the preseason draft. With him on contract, WCE would have to come up with something we are happy with, otherwise its not happening. Thus if we think he's likely gone in 2 years, we should get him traded either now or next year.

We drafted him as a defender and he finished up playing forward. He was OK there but nothing to suggest he was going to make it at either end. Worryingly though, he had a better season than Bowman who I think has been extended from his initial contract.
