Pick 6 and Walter would be one of the biggest trade hauls ever. Walter is a top tier talent, of similar worth to JJK when we moved him onto WCE for Judd. Young KPF of his ability don’t grow on trees. I see him as a Charlie clone but 8 years younger.

The problem with doing this deal is we are basically resigning ourselves to treading water or regressing in 2026, so the club need to assess whether the trade would be worth it based on that. We can potentially cover the loss of SOS and TDK but losing Charlie would be too much.
I think the club is going through a reset, and the bold is a realistic expectation, as we have one eye more firmly on setting up future success. Any improvements we make in 2026 to the ladder position would be inconsequential.

I'm not as concerned about 2026 as I am about the following years. The Club needs to get this right.

Politefully agree to disagree.

Nowhere near one of the biggest trade deals ever.
And after reading Wiz’s recent post - Walter is a boom or bust player. Sounds super risky.
We’d want proven talent back for giving proven talent. IMO

Unfortunately, I doubt that with HOF doing his knee.

As for TDK, he plays as another mid... Pitto is incapable of this, he doesn't take marks, he's no presence up forward and very slow. It only compounds the weaknesses of our main mids, whereas TDK had the ability to alleviate that to an extent.

Silvagni played 13 games this year. As good as he was in those games the best ability is availability. Newman back should replace his ball use and I think we’ll be able to find a cheap stopper to hopefully free up Weitering a bit. I’d take Phillips from the 2s.

TDK is a strange one. We look much better with him in the middle but stats say we perform better and win more with Pitto rucking. You can get by with a below average ruck. How often does TDK have a brilliant game yet still get beaten by his direct opponent? Pitto is underrated in nullifying the better rucks even if his own game is nothing special.

Maybe I'm being naive or bias, but my expectation is to still make the 8 next year while performing a little reset

I wouldn't be calling 20 a top end pick... they drafted Tony Notte iirc and I don't recall there being someone they missed with that pick either.

Potential doesn't always work out, 100% true, but you'd rather bring players with big potential in than not.

Walter was a pick 3 in 2023 draft. The pick 6 we get can be combined with the TDK pick to push up to pick 2. So we lose Charlie + TDK for two top 3 picks, it's not the worst result.

If Walter lives up to the potential and that pick 2 gets us Duursma then we've done very well.
Agreed. After I wrote that message I thought the same thing. Pick 20 is def not top end. I just feel we need proven talent back if we’re handing proven talent over

It will all really depend on where GW sees this list...

If the belief is there that they can go again next year at cracking top 4, then most certainly Charlie will be near untouchable at the trade table and it will take a Gulden or Butters for us to trade him.

But, given what we've already seen out the door this year, it looks like setting up for the future is the approach they'll take. This is where the talk of Walter + 6 makes more sense.

It’s a reset, not a rebuild. Completely different to 2015

Club has realised what we have this year and prior won’t cut it, no point going with the same and expecting a different result

Been looking at the draft and young players for last 2-3 years and will again this year, next year get Cody and go free agents with the huge amount of money we’ll have in the bank

But not a 66 game reset? 🤔

Maybe… just maybe, the AFL have never intended to do a Round 1 F/S draft lockout and this has all been media clickbait since the very beginning. And if that’s the case, the AFL have simply never needed to come out with any statement on the matter because they have never considered doing it?

Callum just took a massive dump all over my post.

It's possible if we hit close to peak Cripps, Walsh, Cerra again. McKay stays on the park (even losing Charlie, he plays better without him). Hewett maintains the rage. Weiters stays healthy as does Haynes and Pitto. Followed by some growth from Cowan, Ollie, Moir, Carrol, and basically new recruits in Jagga, Cotters, and Kemp.

2026 will be a year above the shoulders.

Higher goals per game than CC at the same stage of his career, though not nearly as athletic as Charlie

I think Walter and pick 6 for Curnow who will be 29 at seasons start is probably a good result for us, and Charlie is my favourite Carlton player ever after Fevola
Walter is every bit as athletic as Charlie, also gives way more care to the defensive side of the game.

I hope it’s true, yes it will affect our ability over the next year or two to contend but we aren’t contenders anyway, will help with a reset enormously.

I doubt GC would give pick 6 straight out as they need valuable picks, but that doesn’t mean we can’t skin it another way

l believe that looks difficult with the players we are losing this year.

Also a major gap this year between the top 9 and the next tier of teams.
We need to bring in more quality young talent & take a longer term view.

I haven't seen enough of Walter admittedly, but he has looked more awkward off the deck than Curnow and doesn't look to have the same run and jump

I do agree with you though in general, I think it's a win

Walter v Charlie, risk v reward both ways but could also be a win win. We've had meh Charlie for the last 2 season, prior 2 good season and before that 3 years of injury. If he doesn't want to be here next season who's to say he'll mentally be fully checked in anyway and not do usual Charlie silly things like snapping without taking a moment, riding to games on a scooter without a helmet, basketball in the shower.

We've stated we want people that want to be at the club, "no bs". Think the club has already alluded to their decision, just got to wait till contenders are out of finals and trade week radio kicks off.

If I was a reporter I'd be following Curnow's manager around like a fly on poop.

I think Charlie to GC will happen, so the good thing is we can do several different trade scenarios with them because of the amount of young talent they have. Now that GC are a finals side, they would probably be even more into a player like Charlie Curnow. He elevates from finals contender to flag contender overnight.
