Traded Campbell Chesser [Traded to Carlton for 2025 2nd round pick #41]

SPS was in Petruccelle territory for Carlton. He was well on the outer when he asked to be traded.

We actually want to keep Chesser.
Samo played 14 games the year he was traded, Petruccelle has played 2 this year in a team that won 1 game (he may have been injured, haven't been following). Samo was 23, Petruccelle is 26.

pretty dirty about this, honestly more because we’ll get sweet f a for him. worth heaps more to us on the list than anything we’d get back. Likely have to utilise him in a pick swap to extract as much value as possible unless we can get a good f3

We've been weak at the trade table for a while now.
Since we won't get anything worthwhile for him probably time to make a statement.

But who am I kidding - we'll probably just 'good guy' it again.

Whilst injured and in rehab. He didn't have any offers to go home then.

So this is really his first opportunity to move.

How do you know whether he had any offers?

This is his first opportunity to move if you ignore his actual first opportunity to move.

And that’s without mentioning moving whilst under contract.

They offered a contract very late. He is obviously not a high priority over there despite the investment.

I would never begrudge a player for locking in their future or heading home.
Heading home?

He's from Albury NSW (Lavington)

Carlton never learn with their list management.

The first round flops after 5 years in the system rarely suddenly turn it around.

They've hoovered up Smedts, Lang and Fogarty from us alone with that profile.

If they fill the list with these type of players over and over it leaves the untried diamonds in the rough for Wellsy to pick I guess.

Not sure how we have filled the list with those types. Who else on our list would qualify? I see only Acres, Haynes and E.Hollands as former top 20 picks from other clubs on our list.

I thought we were the good guy last year giving you Owies for cheap?

There has been a heap of them over the years. I named 3 of them from Geelong. How many GWS spuds did you pick up just because they were previously high draft picks. It is the wrong way of operating.

Not sure how players like Smedts and the Giants players are at all relevant to us now. They were done years ago under a completely different list management team, coach, and football department and when the club was in a different position.

This guy is the exact same profile as them. That's why I am saying it.

If he's coming for a 3rd or 4th rounder what does it matter? If he improves then it's a win for us, if he stays at the level he's currently at and can stay on the park he's decent depth in a position we need.
Good get won't cost much with upside
Contract similar to Eagles.
Carlton played it well
Eagles not so well
More benefit to Eagles being on the list than what they will get for him.
Strange to not offer him more money

Chesser makes sense for us.

Voss has been vocal we are desperate for speed and foot skills. If we can get Campbell fit, he could become a decent role player.

Carlton are usually good to deal with. Rumours are Motlop wants to head home to WA so they might be part of a trade together.
