Difference is people are still going on about Rayner 4 days later. And I’m not one of them, for what it’s worth. It happened, it’s done, who cares now.

You’re still crying yourself to sleep over this 8 years later.
Actually I'm just having a laugh. No crying here.

We did win the flag that year so....yeah.

Crazy to see the divergence in the clubs since those days.

Absolutely.

Really have to tip my hat to the Cats.

There's clearly something appealing to VIC based players about the more regional lifestyle, but the club's management and Scott's coaching is top tier.

Every club should aspire to be like that.

I was hoping RFC would be...but it's hard to know with the departures of Hardwick, Gale and O'Neil if we'll rebuild prompty or end up back in the dungeons for another generation. I really hope it's short-lived.

But at least I've had my time!

Watch all the entitled Geelong supporters whinge that the Grand Final isn't played at their jelly bean shaped home ground :thumbsu:

Amazing haw the most advantaged club in the AFL, even more so than the non Vic clubs, constantly whinge and complain that the AFL should be doing even more to 'win' them unearned premiership Victory.

I wonder if this little club will ever learn to stand on it's own 2 feet, and if it will ever earn a legitimate flag with no *, like Richmond did.

Advantaged how?

How is playing a melbourne team in melbourne when its your home final not a massive massive disadvantage? Its a disgrace the prelim is not in geelong.

Well apart from getting all the home game advantages of a non-Vic club, having all the travel advantages of a Vic club, being allowed to play on a home ground, so odd shaped, it wouldn't be acceptable in any amateur league, being able to flagrantly cheat the salary cap, openly bragging about using Dank's drugs to win premierships, having multiple rule changes for the sole purposes of advantaging you game plan, I suppose you are discriminated against.

Your infernal whinging for even more unsporting advantages than you already get is entirely justified :thumbsu:

Your premierships* in the 21st century are just as legitimate as the encouragement awards you 'won' in the 1800s that you tearfully insist must be counted alongside AFL flags 🤣

so odd shaped, it wouldn't be acceptable in any amateur league,
This BS has been debunked already.

The first 'grounds' that football was played on in 1859 were rectangular and the length and width were determined by the captains. Ergo; most games had matches played on fields that were irregularly shaped and sized.

In any case, we've played on this venue since 1941. 84 years on our ground with this shape.

AFL LAWS:

3.3 PLAYING SURFACE AND POSTS GENERAL
The dimensions and markings of the Playing Surface are contained in this Law 3 and illustrated in Diagram 1.
PLAYING SURFACE (a)

The Playing Surface shall be:
(i) oval in shape; :whitecheck:
(ii) between 135 metres and 185 metres in length; :whitecheck:
(iii) and between 110 metres and 155 metres in width. :whitecheck:

(b) A white line shall be marked on the ground to identify the Playing Surface. This white line shall be drawn in the shape of an arc from the behind post (refer Law 3.3 below) at one end of the Playing Surface to the behind post at the other end of the Playing Surface. The white lines which are drawn are called the Boundary Line. :whitecheck:

So we are living in fantasy world I see and just making crap up.

Playing richmond and hawthorn and collingwood at the mcg in our home games is one of the most disgraceful disadvantages in world sport. It would be an unjust disadvantage if it was played in a neutral ground like the scg but to play it at your home den in front of all your rabid supporters booing our players non stop when you are the away team is a disgrace. Cant find equivalent examples in professional world sport. Under a fair scenario geelong should have 6 flags in the last twenty years

Playing home games at a ground in your home city is literally what every other club gets. Including yours. Geelong just gets less of it. To try and argue our disadvantage is an advantage is flat earth thinking.

Wont respond to the rest of the made up fantasy nonsense, which is just a cognitive dissonance coping mechanism to deal with the fact your club is inferior. Its MAGA level thinking refinforced by social media warriors who are all suffering the same cognitive dissonance inferiority problem.

The irony is your club used to complain about playing a home game at docklands which is literally still in your home city. You can walk from the mcg to docklands. And you guys thought that was an abhorrent unjustice. The hyporicsy is staggering.

Winning another flag at Richmond's home ground would be great. We've won twice as many at the G as the Tigers this century.

In the entire AFL era, Geelong has brought in 2 players with All Australian level form or who were ranked in the top 50 players in the league: Dangerfield and Cameron. They got them for under but not for free, despite their free agent status. Compare that to Richmond and Lynch.

They also lost the best player of his generation in his prime.

Smith had not been ranked highly at all since his breakout 2021 season. He would not have been in the top 40 midfielders in 2023, had done an ACL and had all sorts of question marks over him.
You always bring up Richmond and Lynch. Is it Richmond’s fault that GC decided not to match our bid but Adelaide and GWS did for Dangerfield and Cameron so you had to trade for them. No it was just bad luck for Geelong. You got your moneys worth, why keep moaning about it now?

Also, if Smith had so many problems and questions marks over him, why did Geelong go so hard for him and threaten to go to the draft if the Bulldogs didn’t accept pick 17 or whatever it was?

"Always"?

Where am I blaming Richmond? The point is Geelong has still paid something for its couple of superstar free agents and also lost a better player the other way.

As for Smith he was acquired mostly on potential rather than recent output. It has worked out well but only severe hindsight bias says he was of the same ilk as Dangerfield or Cameron.

Geelong has gone hard for many players, including quite a few busts who had injury or mental health problems like Smith when coming in.

You got to play a Grand Final at your home ground in 2020
How did that work out for you?

You play a thousand games a year at your home ground and won 3 flags in four years and within half a decade your team has somehow, despite being one of the richest and most heavily supported clubs, found itself tanking and having a fire sale to stock up on draft picks and embarrassing itself and its supporters are bragging about how good some of its players are who haven’t even had a taste of AFL yet to try and make themselves feel better and your only source of pride is in telling the current preliminary finalists who’ve been top four 75 per cent of the time for the last 20 years that they succeed despite playing all their finals away from home.

Maybe time to take your hand out of your pants, mate.

Perhaps not you personally but a few of your fellow Cat fans often bring up Lynch when you want to complain about having to trade for Dangerfield & Cameron.

The AFL stole GAJ from you, take it up with them.
