2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Paddy Dow is doing well to get another contract. I'd have thought he'd at least have to wait to see who we brought in before putting own to paper
We have to have a delistment plan going forward as well .... 1 year deal might see him gone at the end of next year ... along with a few others of course

I think the preference is to keep Marshall unless we are given an almighty juicy offer.
Cox wasn’t outstanding but he’s an important part of the Collingwood set up.

Brings the ball to the ground, blocks well, he’s handy in the ruck and allows Cameron to get back and help out in defence. It reminds me of old school football where the second ruck rested in either the forward or back pocket.

I think Marshall who’s played some football at CHB would be very handy with TDK taking most of the centre bounces and getting forward. If the emergency goes teams who have two good rucks will play them and force other teams to adapt. Ruckman were once quite dominant in the way max Gawn is, marking everything in sight. Guys were winning Brownlow medals playing in the ruck.

The game has changed a lot but playing to your strengths is still smart football. With two top rucks we can do some damage and it also partially fixes us being weak in the air, king and silvagni will help as well.

I’m hoping we keep Marshall but if we don’t when Dodson is ready if he’s good enough he’ll play.

I guess Howard is almost done and injury prone. So have Aleer as the permanent stopper who can also intercept at a good level that Howard never could. Wilkie and Silvagni can rotate between key back/3rd tall intercept defender.

Battle was never an elite interceptor, now we have 3.

Yeah ok
That convinces me abit more, of his value
Thanks for the vid

but have we applied for the relevant permits? first tauru and now aleer, I hope we've at least contacted air traffic control

So listening to Midday Madness on SEN today and nearly lost it when Dwayne called people questioning the NGA's for the fake clubs as 'whingers'. I thought typical schill, doesn't understand that it is hurting the whole competition.
But then some Saints muppet came on spouting 1.8 for TDK, 850k for JSOS, and 750k for Aleer and was complaining about the spend like it was his money.
Dwyane completely shut him down and said, ' Well the Saints are sick of being ordinary and are doing something about it, and I love it'.
If nothing at least Russell is consistent. Reckons NGA's grows the game and the 'whingers' should do something about their list to get better, then was full.of praise for what the Saints are doing.
Still don't agree with his NGA stance, however Russell is no hypocrite and stuck to his guns when questioned on the Saints.
thanks mrs russel, now better get back to that meatloaf, you know dwayne gets hangry

I don't understand this issue. What rule was changed which eliminated the run and jump? If running and jumping is still allowed, why wouldn't someone like a TDK do it every time?

That said, if running and jumping is about to become more important, that doesn't bode well for Marshall.
The current rule gives each ruck half the circle each. But the rules allow you to start right at the half. So when the ball goes up you can cross the line and take the other rucks run away

If we can get this version of Aleer, together with Wilkie, fit JSOS and an improving Tauru, then our backline will be absolutely rolled gold. I can see why the club are into him - talent is clearly there, just needs some consistency and coaching.

Wonder how bullish the club is on Keeler filling that 2nd relief ruck position ... we know he can play forward and starting to improve and fill out .... got a very good leap as well

Yeah ok.

You guys had ONE job to do, you've been gifted a very strong list, just had to get a defender. Your maverick coach is botching the whole job anyway so who knows whether that will even be enough, but you just needed a defender.

Our list management team have been all the way up the asses of Aleer all year and JSOS for over a month, we have got one just as you guys were STARTING 😆 to put work into him and the other one nominated us as soon as his season ended. Leaving you with nothing. All those great players (now one year older) and missing finals because you didn't put the work in until it was too late.

Your only response has been to feebly grasp for our most entrenched, most decorated, most in contract key defender and what do you propose as a conversation starter?

A couple of throwaway FRDPs in a weak AND heavily compromised draft that we have repeatedly told you we aren't even that interested in getting this year - our plan has been to max out on the draft the last 3 years and then hit FA which we are doing, so unless you have some player or players who we think adequately compensate us for losing the best defender we've had in nearly 20 years, why don't you ...

By all means try and turn Wilkie's head, but we will not give him up and if you want to check our resolve, just listen to the media from Ross and Bassat of late. Also observe the poll of player managers that rated SOS as one of the hardest LMs to deal with.

You dont have a hope.

The 2026 out of contract list is thin from what I can see.

Caminiti, Sharman, both Cat B Irish boys, Butler, Dodson, Howard, Keeler, Said, Stocker, Wilson and now Dow. Be a few in there that are feeling the pressure to have a big off-season and fight for their list spot.

Kozi played C.H.B in his 1st season too
Riewoldt was out with a knee injury by memory.
Riewoldt still played 6 matches in 2001 and every match in 2002, the first half of which (by my memory) he was thrown around a bit, mainly in defence, but settling as a key forward mid 2002.

I am all for keeping Windy (his commitment on the field cannot be questioned) but if we are going to grant him his wish for an improved deal then their are several aspects of his game he needs to improve as well

I am sure we can sort it out
The fact that he is only 22 tells me there is plenty of time to improve aspects to his game. He is also reportedly one of the biggest workers on the track so I don't think he will leave any stone unturned. I don't think he is the finished product just yet.

I know its been a long time since then, and obviously things can change very quickly (and did), but does anyone else think Rowan isn't going anywhere?
Tony74 did say back at the end of July that Nas and Ro were going nowhere, and he hasn't been wrong yet. Obviously Geelong are still in finals and Ro met Chris Scott but this story has just been pushed and pushed by the Geelong Minister of Propaganda Mitch Cleary for months more than anyone else.

Not to mention its a very easy narrative to push, Geelong are a destination club that needs a ruck while Saints signed a ruck.

If we are looking to shoot up the ladder within 2 years, Marshall can't go.

At his best it’s hard not to project a paddy Ryder like player but that’s unfair on the kid.

I think if we could get Keeler and Collard to be locks in our best 22 we’d be in a pretty good place. If we do trade Marshall and Heath I guess it’s massive vote of confidence in Keeler and Dodson.

If Marshall gets traded i reckon it's their first and a player
I would be going after Ted Clohesy. just turned 21 but in a long queue behind Close, Miers, Stengle, Mannagh etc. played a ripper game against us earlier in the year after coming on as sub. out of contract and would fill a need as a high pressure high tackling small fwd. Ryan and Higgins aren't that, Butler looks almost done and Collard remains speculative. also racks up big VFL numbers running through the midfield so has other strings to his bow
