Well, the illness does prob explain a lot. Doesn’t help the prep for this next game. The world is conspiring against us
It's clear players were and are still, effected.

I haven't noticed any club statement drawing attention to the fact. It's been news reports from the faux journos who've been making issue of it, but of course it's all the keyboard warriors posting laughing emojis and accusing the club of making excuses in advance (the jealous losers who didn't make the finals and the teams that don't boo who did make the finals)... they can all go **** themselves, bigly.

I have often wondered about the decision to have open training sessions and to run around high fiving people as finals begin. Given the amount of illness in the community, it seems risky.
It's one of those things I never thought about pre-covid but you're right. Running around high fiving 200 people that may or may not have very good hand washing habits. It's a surprise it doesn't happen more often.

I thought all night we looked painfully slow against the Pies. Both in playspeed and reaction speed. If several players were sick it makes a lot of sense (some certainly looked less then 100%)

But having said that, the Hawks flick it around real quick by hand, so we simply cant afford a 2nd sluggish performance.

Get well boys, turn it around.

I don’t think we play that poorly two weeks in a row. The Pies match was a massive let down and I’ll back us to respond.

The sickness might have had an impact but we were still playing dumb footy. Ball chasing whilst they flick it outside.

Coaches also had a bad night in the box.

Bond out, Rachele in. Smith to stay sub because Nicks won’t drop him now. I’d prefer Dowling as sub.

I dont think we play that slow and predictably again either.

But we also need our ball winners to win WAY more of the footy. TBH given how little our midfield fired against the Pies, we actually did ok to hang for as long as we did.

But Berry, Soli, Peatling, Cumming on the wing, (TBH even Dawson) need to lift their output on that game. They all made Laird's 4th quarter look like he's our best mid last Thursday.

Good

Thilthorpe was close to not playing the Collingwood or the Hawthorn game?
Hindsight: at captain’s run on Wed, as players wandered off, Thilthorpe did a 50m sprint watched by Burgess, then went down on haunches for a long, long time as they chatted. Thought Thilthorpe may have been carrying a leg injury but now makes sense that he was crook.

Yes, finals are a blank stadium EXCEPT for the MCG.

So it’s reasonable for Victorian team members to have access to 75% of the MCG but schmucks in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth have to provide approximately equal access (based on total memberships for each club) to our blank stadiums.

Fortunately Qantas and Jetstar do their best to minimise supporters flying into (or out of) Adelaide.

If it is proportional access to tickets based upon overall membership numbers, then agree that could be unfair and not hard to address. But I’m not sure it is as bad as you claim. Each stadium has about 50k capacity, so each club has the same opportunity to generate finals access members. Are you conflating the AFL and MCC members with the split of tickets for what were club member spots in the H&A?

My belief is that if the MCG wants the host the GF as a neutral ground it should not allow MCC members access, just like Adelaide Oval doesn't allow their members tickets as a right.

But it won't happen, although I don't understand why.

If there was a way to be a member from Adelaide, but there's not, you have to know and be recommended by 2 x MCC members to get on the 50 year wait list :(

When my first nephew was born, I was going to put his name on the waiting list so he'd be a chance of becoming a member should we want to (which, given how sports mad he's become, he'd jump at).

I took one look at how to get on the wait list and put an end to that thought.

The flu going around atm is no joke, I was bedridden for a week and still haven't fully recovered nearly 3 weeks later. Easily the worst sickness I've had.
Just wondering, did you get a flu shot this year?

Worrying thought about this flu report is that Nicks is gonna run it back with the same 23....
So you think all the players in the Twos are fighting fit but flu has gone through our best 23?

The Twos also looked a bit flat on Sunday. Cooky started on fire and then did a disappearing act after quarter time. Whilst this is not unprecedented, perhaps he had a touch of flu as well?

It is very rare for a player to miss a match due to flu. Some players can fight through it, others not so much.

I think if you go in knowing Rachele is underdone and there's a very good chance he gets subbed it has to be Dowling. Where does Smith play if we sub Rachele out?

Because the MCC run the ground. They're the ones that would have to approve removing their own access lol.

Have you ever had a finals ticket as a Crows member at the MCG?

If yes, were you sitting in the MCC Area or the AFL Members Area?

For all finals at the MCG, the areas available to members of the interstate teams in the finals are at either end of the ground. Members of the competing Victorian Clubs double dip. A lot of the MCC and AFL members are also members of Collingwood, Richmond, Melbourne, Hawthorn etc. In the Collingwood preliminary final a lot of the fans in the MCC and AFL Areas will be Collingwood supporters. The remaining Collingwood members get to compete for the remaining 50,000 tickets with members of the competing team (Brisbane or Gold Coast).

My point was in response to your statement that we shouldn’t complain about the access to seats for visiting fans since finals are different, the AFL control ticketing and their is equal access to the members of both clubs.

This is bullshit. For the finals at the MCG there is greater access for members of the Victorian Clubs. Now the excuse is that this is an arrangement between the AFL, MCG (and the Victorian Government). So….. why can’t there be an arrangement between the AFL, Adelaide Oval and the SA government.

Now, I am fully aware that the answer is It’s Tradition, It’s really a VFL competition.

Because the MCC run the ground. They're the ones that would have to approve removing their own access lol.

They also rely on grand final access to actually be able to function as a club. They have over 100k members (and 240k on the waitlist). If you remove grand final access, very few will be paying $800 to be a member. Given it's a piece of public infrastructure which takes public funding, it shouldn't work this way, but it does.

You’d think that could have been something negotiated out when the AFL agreed to the recent GF extension. Even buying the rights to the seats back and effectively breaking even on the sale would be an improvement. But then there’s their own memberships polluting the ticketing.
