Absolutely. Same way Sam Mitchell was Simon Black was... These guys are freaks and go under appreciated in media awards etc. But theyre slower buggers who made their team overall way faster. I was hoping Walsh might've been that but he's a doer and not so much a thinker/reader. So are Cripps and George. They're doers not thinkers. Thought Cerra had that to him but maybe not.

Maybe Jagga has some of it?

Team system is what allows the Pendelbury and Sidebottom's to work - that is my #1 question mark over Carlton's coaching panel. Players need to have the work ethic- ( Voss has ticked that box) but the work ethic has to be focussed and drilled so it maximises effectiveness at all times. Thsi si wher econtinuity and skill overlays come in...Carlton has lacked continuity and is lacking skill execution in the basics - which leads to break downs and turnovers when it shouldn't...

that is the part of the list that has to be addressed - you cant have O Hollands being the play maker when he scrubs regulation straight kicks to a open receivers in the center of the ground - that is coach killingh and player demoralisation over and over - Ollie isnt alone in that regard. You cant have Motlop as a forward playmaker who panics whenever ther eis any opponent anywher enear him and he has to make a decision he has burned easy goals and team mates in optimal positions so many times by being dumb it ain't funny any more.

This gives me PTSD...

...Post Traumatic Smedts Disorder

Geelong win pretty much every trade they are involved in.

We should not deal with them under any circumstances.

Jordan Clark and Esava Ratagoulea are only decent players they have lost in a veryyyyy long time.

If they are offering up fringe players we should proceed with extreme caution.

Ive made the point previously - how many times has Wright dealt with Geelong in his whole career ? ANswer that and you might be surprised and relieved.

WGAF? We're in the winning premierships business, not the who's-got-the-most-members business. Or at least, we're supposed to be.
We get back to on-field relevance? Then watch them jump on.
I agree. We should be focusing on winning premierships. Unfortunately I don't believe the club has. We haven't had on-field relevance for 30 years. Yet members continue to stick by the club. Will be interesting to see what happens next season.

well if it isn't interesting to see what might happen in a season - why is anyone on here posting or even interested in watching the game?

I think Lord has it in him, how much - only time will tell.

His hands are elite & sees what’s happening and gives to open up space, time & get it moving forward.

Just hope we embrace this part of his game & help him develop it - not train it out of him with instruction to move it safe/backwards.

We need to have the outside moving the right way to utilize this, it’s something that really worries me as we haven’t done this at all well for years now

This is just a media rumour according to someone close to Mots
He wants to stay and said so at exit meeting, but ‘is in limbo’ at the moment
To be fair the article does state that Motlop's preference is to stay at Carlton and that he is high on Carlton's priority list of re-signings. Just seems talks have stalled for whatever reason.

If he ends up signing for 2 years you just know that Carlton tried to get him on a one year prove it deal. 2 years is fair for him though.

And the best type of speed that leaves both in the dust

3. Speed of mind/decision making/ reading the play.

Fastest players aren’t the fastest. They just know where to be
This sounds like the perfect description of Greg Williams.

Give me a player with a good football brain over somebody whose main attribute is legspeed any day of the week. We need to seek a few of these types out.

Lets say $1.5m for those two and another ~ $1m for Charlie = $2.5m - now add the total picks possible....

a new portfolio manager ( that is Wright) loves a clean book and lots of cash and options ( picks) ...

I heard that Voss wanted Docherty to stay and Wright was teh one that made the call - yeah naah. is that another ~ 500k?

what is the total cashola Carlton has amassed in quick time ~ $2 to $3m....
and 2 first rounders ( minimum)

for the loss of a not top 5 ruck and a not top 10 defender...and an old bloke not good enough to hold down a defenders position in Docherty.

and what is Motlop worth if he goes ( I hope he does) ?

Wright has portfolio managed Carlton into a a big bank of salary cap and pick chest.

Meanwhile people are pulling their hair out and gnashing their toofs over these potential losses - the only one that I'm half concerned about is curnow ..

I'll take this hand being dealt to Carlton - with a bloke with half a brain in Wright looking at Austin and Voss and keeping them in check.
If we have that much cap space available and don't land a big fish, I'd like us to go the 95% and front load a few contracts to have a huge amount in the next year or two.

Would be good to have 105% of the salary cap to spend for two years and have aa bit of extra room due to front loading.

It would give about an extra 2M a year for two years above the cap. Plenty to get a big fish in on FA contract.

And Williams comes off his big contract next year too.

I still.think we need raw speed for transition and defending stoppages, as much as I agree with and appreciate this sentiment.

I wonder if that's something we can turn Chesser into a great rebounding defender? By reports he has great speed and skill, playing him as a less accountable, more attacking weapon off HB could be something useful for us.
Guaranteed to be the next lock down half forward. :p

Austin is a terrible negotiator, Wright will fix that.

If they want Charlie badly enough, they will

I would say that they don't want him that badly and if the boot was on the foot, I wouldn't give up
Gulden for Charlie. You only had to see the positive effect that Gulden had on Sydney's form when he returned from
injury in the second half of the season.

That's a decent trade if Charlie was out of contract.
I think there would be a few other picks involved, but using an uncontracted Jeremy Cameron, he was effectively 2 + 26 + F4th Rd.

Chesser wouldn't be free in a trade, and I'd expect similar price to Matt Kennedy.
