2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Sounds like Wilkie was signed on about $750k from what I've heard. Dogs willing to go up on their offer of $1.5 million. If we have to pay close to that with a 20% stay at home tax taken out it's big hit we hadn't counted on.
And we don’t have to do a single thing. We can point to a 2 year deal and say we will give you an extra 200k and that’s it (not saying that’s what we will do)

Ultimately, this is a massive nothing. Until such a point that the pugs are willing to put blue chip players on the table publicly. Once they do that, I agree - It will be concerning.

TDK was the second-best ruckman in the competition and 17th best player in the AFL in the first eight rounds.

When you watch their games he was good but not that good. Grundy made a significant difference at Sydney. I don't think Tom had that same impact at Carlton. Cameron at Collingwood likewise makes a massive difference to how they play.

Carlton doesn't look like they'll lose a huge amount of ground by replacing him with Pittonet. Mostly because their inside brigade is significantly better than ours though.

TDK looks flash doing stuff and he might make a big difference to our side but I really doubt he was the second best ruck except on the stats sheet. I think he's a better tap than Marshall but less of an around the ground asset. The ruck rule changes will make his game stand out a lot more because when it comes to athletic rucks he's about the most athletic.

I’ve pointed to their first half of the season and how good he was a number of times. That was my eye test.

What I posted from the article just supports that

Kinda goes back to Nicky Dal's comments - you've signed the contract, that's your number. If you want more, next contract extension you get it. But player agents will do what player agents always do

Player agents have a lot of power to make life hard for clubs if you don't bend to their whims. Realistically the most likely scenario is we extend him on a bigger contract.

$1.5m is more than Bont is on, wonder if he'd be DiSgRunTLed by Wilkos being offered more??

Possibly will put noses out of joint. That's the danger of going nuclear on wages.

Not quite.

That’s for a specific few - of which Wilkie is NOT managed by

With race horses it not unusual to have a companion pony, horse, goat, or even a donkey to keep it company. These personal friends can even travel to the racetrack with the horse. Is this a possible post season player acquisition, to be seen as a companion for our champion stallion Nas?
Hopefully it works as well as our last companion pony, which if I recall correctly was Sinclair, with Billings being the race horse.

I watched him in a few early season games and he looked good but nowhere near the impact of Grundy and Cameron. Xerri is absolutely dominating footy these days in a shit side and a lot of those bigger solid body rucks start play for their sides.

TDK will rack up stats and his athleticism is elite but to me his ruck work isn't that outstanding. With the caveat that if the ruck rules allow a run up he could every easily be the best ruck in footy. I give him that he looks exciting doing everything he does too. He's a specimen.

If we wind up extending his current contract and chucking some extra cash in to keep everyone happy i have no issue with that.

It used to be player had to perform at a level for a season or two to get paid, were now in the realm of guys getting paid on potential.

If Wilkie wants a little extra ii dont begrudge him that and im sure the club will sort it out but i also just dont beleive for a second that any deal happens here. Dogs wouldnt pay our asking and wed be asking the world.

It sounds alot like us offering Rowell and Callaghan a shitload of money, likely never happened formally and even if it did we still needed to get trades done.

Weve got 7, 43 and 58 for this year.

Its gonna depend where hes bid on, hasnt he come in a bit?

Obviously id rather Geelongs first (or future first TBH) but to me getting a second for a guy who has no place in a best fit 23 is a reasonable outcome. Others may disagree and plenty seem to think we can play two rucks (in spite of no other team doing that) which is fine.

To be clear if we turn Roma into Fincher and keep our first im fine with that outcome (even keep a late pick for a flyer). If we turn Roma into Flanders even better. If we turn Roma into next years first for the cats best possible outcome.
i would rather extract fair value, especially from those coints, then swap the pick 20 or whatever for 2 picks further back, looking at that chart eagles freo sydney giants lions crows port carlton all have 2 picks in that range currently

one for fincher and one dalrymple special,or one of our incoming aleer/ryan

I can't find anything about $1.5 million in any articles, tweets or links about Wilkie.

None. Gabelich himself hasn't written or posted about it either.

It doesn't even seem legit in a reporting sense - and we all know half of that is bulls*it too.

It was on SEN today unless I miss heard his figure. Stav linked it.

St Kilda should've offered Bont $3mil/yr for 4 years instead of what we've done.

Would give us the best midfield duo in the league.

And saves us turfing guys like Caminiti to the reserves because we're overpaying guys like Aleer who mostly add depth in the overall scheme of things.

We have so few spots left open. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more trades happening and only taking Fincher in the draft.

He has the best hit out to advantage % in the league.

I disagree. Allowing SOS any role whatsoever in the decision making surrounding his son would be such an egregious conflict of interest, and so antithetical to the cold blooded professionalism that Bassat has been preaching since the sacking of Ratten, that I just cannot believe it would have occurred. If anything, JSOS would have had to pass even higher hurdles to get the tick of approval given the situation with his dad.
And for all we know, he hit those higher hurdles.at the end of the day, it’s just footy. If Ross didn’t think it was worth pursuing, it wouldn’t have happened. That’s good enough for me

Ralphy article H/S 9/9 - obsession talking about Saints incoming players 🙄 (list cloggers or A-Graders)

The media love to jump on the great young talent at Stkilda. Really. Our talent are 3rd talls, flankers and outsiders.
Being an older supporter I have been through a few rebuilds. The ones that have been successful have always involved gun key position players.I am thinking Hawthorn with Roughead and Buddy,Stkilda Riewoldt,Koschizke. This rebuild does not have a gun Key coming through under 22.Keeler speculative?
Just on Owens, don’t see the hype either.Hard at it,see ball get ball ,all nice but you have to do it against the best and not sure he has delivered.A less skilled Dipper.
Negative maybe, or realistic, yes Iike a lot of Gringo comments.

Should get on the front foot then and say it.
Don't know if it will ally your concerns, but there was a tweet posted yesterday with the Saints potential movements and atthe bottom said wordsto the effect, Saints administration are adamant Wilkie wont be traded.
Couldn't find the tweet, sorry.
