You forgot to include the Norm Smith Medal...

But I guess that's FACTUAL, as opposed to 'opinion'.

The same applies to Norm Smith medal as well. It just slipped my mind.

One thing is certain, for these "opinion awards"....once the decision is made...its certainly final and won't be changed and is official.

Let's see if they contend for a flag.

You're not setting yourself up to give your team the best shot at winning a flag by finishing 8th.

Interestingly, he kicked 0.3 in the final game against Brisbane, where we lost by 10 points.

Had we won, we would have finished 4th.

If you want to believe that it comes down to a single players impact, then he actually went pretty bloody close that night to getting us that high.

Great example.

The season was that close that had Newcombe have consistently performed at the level we know he is capable of throughout the season, Hawthorn would have absolutely won an extra game or two, and be approaching the finals series with a double chance and therefore more likely to contend for the flag.

But because he didn't, you're entering the finals series in 8th place, which is a long way back....

The only three contenders for rolling finals MVP (last few years) are Newcombe, Serong and Holmes. Newcombe with the above record. Holmes has been BOG or close to it for his last 4 finals when out there, but was cruelled by injury midway through 2 of them. Then Serong has a couple of BOGs from his last 3 finals as well. Rowell is also off to a great start.

Neale is obviously the reigning Ayres medalist but most of his 2023 finals and the 2025 one were closer to decent than BOG.

2022-2025 total votes*
Neale 41.5
JDG 32
Jack Crisp 32
Newcombe 23
Serong 22

Bobby Hill 19
W Ashcroft 18.5
Naicos 14
Holmes 14

They weight GF but not PF (could argue QF and PF should be worth more than EF and SF).
Holmes's injuries are mitigating. So is 2023 Naicos returning off a broken knee - remarkable to even play, straight into PF and GF.

*Just a sample

There is zero chance an opposition coach is giving more votes to Daicos. McCrae has been gifting him points for 2 years. It has been shown over and over there is a significant difference in voting between McCrae and all the other coaches.

Nicks
5 Moore
4 DeGoey
3 Sidebottom
2 Quaynor
1 Daicos

McCrae
5 Moore
4 Daicos
3 DeGoey
2 Quaynor
1 Elliott
Gifting him points ?

2023 - Would have won Brownlow if not for a late season injury.
2024 - 38 Brownlow votes only behind Cripps epic season.
2025 - Brownlow favourite

But nah, he just gets gifted points.

Go have a lay down mate

In that case, you're comfortable with Nicks robbing Daicos of votes?

Because on no planet was Daicos only the 5th best player on the ground on Thursday night.

And not a single premiership between them.

Go figure.

Holmes a very good chance to change that this year.

Newcombe a very good chance to change that soon (yes, my bias is showing!)

Average votes per completed final (Holmes was BOG twice before injury...but for fairness sake those games would have to be removed entirely) over the past few years would be a better guide. So Holmes 14/3 = 4.7.

Serong over 7 votes per game, Newcombe almost 8 per game are the obvious top 2. Holmes would have had to complete his 2 other finals against Brisbane.

JDG would be up there for sure. 4.6 votes per game I think? Likewise Crisp. Neale 3.8.

Personally for this sort of thing I prefer using votes before GF weighting adjustment so that they can be compared to players from 2016-2021.

Why are you getting pissy? It's an individual performance thread. The players I listed are the ones who have been closest to BOG on average in their recent finals (when on the field).
Stating a fact is 'getting pissy'?

Hopefully the likes of Serong (oops), Newcombe or Holmes can add a flag to their impressive finals CV's this year.

But I'll see those 3 and raise you Jordan De Goey, who also has a flag to his name to compliment the impressive individual performances.

I use other threads for talking about team success. This thread is about Gary Ayres votes. Pretty simple concept I would've thought, but apparently not.

Really? Because this post goes beyond simply Gary Ayres Votes:

IMO a 'Rolling Finals MVP' surely would have played in the biggest games of a finals series, as opposed to predominantly Elimination and Semi Finals?

In which case (as per an earlier post) the nominations would be Neale, De Goey and Crisp.

And exactly none of your anointed top 3.

Players can't help which finals they are in or how many they play. If they release a special QF/PF/GF exclusive award I am happy to take a look for you.

For players who have participated in a stack of completed finals over the past few years, the 3 you mention are out in front along with Dangerfield, who has 25 votes from his past 6 finals (just over 4 per game).

The young guns I mentioned are simply the ones who have been closest to BOG on average in finals over that period when they've been out on the field. They have played less games though: Holmes 2x full games, 2x half games (about 3 in total for time on field). Newcombe and Serong 3 games. 45 other players in a given game influence whether or not their team can win said finals and potentially win a premiership.

Serong 10 v Rowell 6 is just stupid. Serong was not almost twice as good as Rowell.
Serong had 13 clearances
Anderson and Rowell had 10 together
They both had awesome games and were better in other stats.
Sebba was beast mode at the coalface

It’s shit we had to make the trade of a future great of the game in Neale to get a second high pick in 2019 draft which was serong.
Suns got Anderson for free
That would be nice

Serong was the clear best player in that match and arguably the best player across the 4 final matches in Week 1.

Did they?

I thought both Brayshaw and Young were so pretty good. A 1 point margin is a very fine line...
Brayshaw was awesome
Young got the ball but I have a high expectations of him being the mid forward of the ball.
Serong is the extracter
Brayshaw is the two way beast
Young the attacking mid (0 goals 6sc inv)
It could be coaching.
But you can’t have 3 mids doing a similar thing
