2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Geelong and other clubs have been exploiting that for years and you can garuantee that Rowan being a country boy raised on a cattle farm will be offerred a prime block of land on the peninsular as a part of his deal.

The only thing that might convince him to remain at our club, is the AFL dropping the substitute rule and allowing 5 x players on the bench. Its just waiting to be signed off by the Commission, which will mean most clubs will next year play two ruckman. Swann indicated the 75 rotation rule would remain, so it will be more of a balancing act for coaches.

If Rowan does choose to leave good luck to him if he gets something out of Geelong, he deserves it for all his loyal years of service with our club.
As long as we good compensation i don't mind if he moves. We should have enough rucks to compensate

I think he's almost certainly going to be at another club. I just can't see Lyon not using that extra bench spot for a runner. Unless they reinvent him as a KP somehow.
Im sure the club would have thought it through

Well I say hold Ro and Wilkie for at least next year and see how it all goes.
Unless of course we need their trade value and sc for a really big banana.
You watch, we'll see how the next 2 years plays out and then make a decision. Other clubs looking for dependable backmen will still pay up big time for Wilkie then anyway, if he even wants to go and if we are ok with it. Way too early in his AFL career, despite his age.

Never misses games. Never hits the bench. Bloke is durable AF.

I think you're right, it seems like he's going. But the concern is we rely on a bunch of guys that aren't proven (Hammer, Keeler) and a guy that hasn't played in over a year due to a mystery knee injury. It also gives us quality injury cover for the ruck.

I just think the balance of the side looks better with Marshall. But agree, the drums are beating.
Is it better for us if he goes whilst in contract or as a free agent after 2027? However Tassie will come in, may not be worth a compensation pick.

I really don't understand why Damien Barrett is held up as some kind of influential figure in the media - he isn't.
Nobody reads a Damo story, and adopts those talking points.

Nobody sees him cheerleading for something and thinks they should get behind it, too.

Out of everyone in the media, he may have a high profile, but almost no impact.

I don't understand why so many people hang on to see every word he writes, when those words don't matter.

Move on,guy is a f/wit

I heard yesterday that the Demons had been right into Moose, but have now signed Tom Campbell. So if you read between the lines that are already between the lines, you could think that Moose thought he was too far back behind Marshall and TDK, and wanted a move, but has since found out that Marshall is going.
They also just today delisted their 21 year old ruck prospect Will Verrall and 198cm full forward Tom Fullarton. Reading between those lines would suggest they are still well in the market for talls

Well I disagree with your worth scale.
On an open market he may be worth that, but he is contracted with most of it having been front ended, add in what Lyon said about good clubs not trading contracted players, and in my view 25 doesn't cut it.
After taking that into consideration if you believe he is worth only 25, you must think he is pretty crap and are glad we recruited TDK.
I tend to believe he is worth a bit more maybe Geelongs 18 and 43 with our 36 going back.

I just don't see him as a decent first
I hope im wrong and we get the cats first
Spoke to a mad Geelong bloke over here today and he agrees with everyone here, most def he would cough up the first for roma.

Aleer made sense to me as a target for the system defense we play.

Where it gets confusing to me is Aleer and JSOS as two talls into our system with Howard/Camma, Wilkie and Tauru already in.

I cant see how a backline with Aleer, Wilkie, Howard/Camma, JSOS and Tauru really works and if the solutuon is Tauru goes forward the i cant see how a forward line with King, Sharman, Owens, Tauru/Camma works.

Anyway its a good problem to have but i wonder what the longer term issues might be.

Situations change, Roma might be seeing that no team plays two rucks and seeing that he doesnt have a spot.

Think the bolded is simplifying it a little. Yeh sure we need to get some complimentary pieces in but we all bang on about how well weve drafted. King should be fit so should Pou. I dont really understand how people can be so hot on our draft crop but then also be so hot for 6 new recruits taking the spots of some of our kids.
What does that last sentence even mean? I don't understand what the plan was if we didn't go after more experienced recruits. You can't just keep drafting and drafting, you need experienced talent to show the kids the way otherwise you'll just end up like North, or Gold Coast before they went full nepo baby.

We've drafted very well imo in the last four years, and it's for exactly that reason we can now STOP hitting the draft as much, develop the kids we already have and use the salary cap space we've created to bring in veterans and start pushing to contend. Whether it works is another story, and I have my questions over the recruits we're bringing in but the strategy makes perfect sense to me.

Lmao

All-time Sandra Sully here

Windy you legend!!!!
I wish there was some diligent poster out there who would create a thread with copies of all the relevant (ie non-nuffie) St Kilda related social media content copied out for those of us who don't and won't sign up for accounts with those companies. Not at all interested in instagram or x or whatever, but do want to know about anything that our players communicate on those channels.

Just don’t see the appeal for Steele to move too WCE. Unless they chuck a heap of cash at him

A step into coaching ala Sam Mitchell.

Club leadership

Less likely to be overtaken and playing reserves by year end.

Cash attractiveness

Increased exposure
