Spot on. The comments about Charlie have become ridiculous. If we were to trade him and he dominates elsewhere, the same people will be complaining that we let him go.

Nah, not the same people. If I backed in a trade, I'd have to admit I got it wrong too before saying the club got it wrong.

I still understand the reasoning for all of the senior deadwood SOS recruited after 2015. It didn't work and it makes his record look worse, but I totally get why he did it.

Potentially. If that's the case though it still doesn't buy into the hate and flakey storyline. If his bodies at its limit it is what it is and he was bloody good when his body allowed

Freakishly good. Winning Colemans after straight after 2.5 years out of the game is a sick joke.

It's hilarious when people question his footy IQ, to be able to kick that many snags after not even playing at all for that long is ridiculous. His work rate is questionable because he's arguably too smart for his own good and hasn't needed to practice any running patterns.

Sam Butler (HAW) was mentioned by someone here as a great little player - forward/mid with great skills and wanting more opportunity.

Has said that he wants out of the club, with West Coast expressing interest.

Do we go there? Kicked the sealer against GWS in a big game just days ago.

We got Davies (Port) we also may be getting Hinkley (Port).

Not having a go...asking at what point is there a conflict of interest? What makes this boys club culture not the same thing?

I have no quandary with it; but isn't accusing any football family of it not somewhat hypocritical?

You're a Silvagni family plant and I'm convinced of it. You only ever comment when something is said about them.

But to answer your question on face value... For starters, neither Davies nor Hinkley will come over on contracts worth 40-150% more than what they're offered elsewhere.

Callum Ah Chee would have to be one we are looking at surely?

How do we get it done?

Here are two other finalists who's premiership players are out of contract:

Collingwood: Jamie Elliott, Oleg Markov
Geelong: Cam Guthrie, Jed Bews, Rhys Stanley

Yikes those names (outside of Elliot who is linked to GCS) don't read very well

I'd LOVE to poach Elliott - if only so we don't have to watch him kick 4 on us ever year. Wouldn't cost much but not sure he'd want to come to us. Would depend on whether we're after a far older guy, too.

I'd rather an Ah Chee or Butler type for sure - unless the club sees us competing next year.

Adding a fit Walsh, Jagga, Newy and someone like Elliott + a revitalised culture could easily see us reclaim a finals spot.

Acres would quite literally have to be pushed to go to West Coast. He isn’t actively looking for a new club — he’s settled in Melbourne with a young family and is getting married here next year etc.
Thanks for the perspective. FWIW Acres was mentioned in multiple “dispatches” weeks ago as being on West Coast’s radar. Has accordingly been seen as on the table since that time.

We are in a bit of a reset removing “conditional” players. Acres has been a hard read this year. Impacted by injury, but has seemed very blasé in his commitment and endured some time in the twos late in the year. Despite his untidy disposal, has been a great get with his work ethic, but did show an obvious decline this year.

Suspecting you are right. Remains uncontracted late in the season when most required players are locked away. Absolutely fills a need, we are open to trading Motlop despite being “light on” for small forwards and reportedly are not big on the draft outside if our linked players.

He appears an excellent fit. With their reported acquisitions, they will need to off load someone of value, at the same time their developing youngsters are demanding a larger piece of the pie.

How do we do it without it severely impacting our other moves?

They're highly unlikely to just give him away.
