I wonder if Toby Murray might switch back to defense in 2026 if we trade Butts. Certainly has the physical side to man some of the Monsters playing FF.

Can take a grab too. I like him forward but wonder if defense ends up being a more natural fit.

Might free us up to chase one of the good young SA forwards in the draft

I actually think thats become a pretty high priority for recruitment. Obviously doesnt need to walk on in 2026 (especially if Tex goes around 1 more time, which I hope he does).

But Burgess is a great SANFL player, but doesnt impact AFL games enough. And right now Welsh looks like he could be a great country league player but doesnt impact at SANFL games enough. Which doesnt fill me with confidence.

Schubert and Marsh both are likely types in this draft from SA. There's always Curtins brother as an option too. Im sure there's more, but i cant say I've watched them

Out of him, Welsh and Burgess I think he has the most obvious physical AFL traits.

But I agree its not translating as a KPF/ruck.

Hence the shift to defense might be what saves his career

I forgot they had Pink, he is not too bad and I wonder if he could be a makeweight in any deal. He could then be a back up if one of Murray, Worrell or Keane are out for any reason. That would fill that gap and if we could also get some decent draft capital from them and use it to further strengthen, it might work.

Yup, especially when Adelaide already has star power in Thilthorpe as a key forward. Which does have a flow-on effect that the bar isn't particularly high for a guy like Toby to clear once Tex goes. Just need someone who's willing to contest, kick a goal a game, and cover Thilthorpe when we use him as a ruck (or remove TT from the ruck entirely).

Why in hell would that be Murray or Butts? That's just desperation for desperation sakes because if either showed anything that could turn them into a key forward, they wouldn't be playing as a shutdown key defender.

The smart move is take whatever collateral we can get for Butts instead of wasting our time.
