2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

yeah so, he had a substance abuse problem, that is nothing like Thomas or Lovett, in fact he has more similarities with baily smeth. If he's got his shit together and is proper serious then we should be open to it
No expert, and I DO drink and I wonder how the compass finds true North in these situations.

As a team, who sees the talent, who sees the waste and who sees the chance of saving someone and being positive, not only for the team, the individual but for humanity as a whole, does one need to see a commitment to total abstinence? A 12-Step program? Surrender to Jesus etc. ?

That is such a total and fragile pact. Seems all-encompassing itself, bigger and even more total than applying oneself to a professional sports code. I mean, everything gives way to it. wanna eat? Go ahead. Wanna sit on the couch and binge watch Netflix? Go ahead. go ahead and do what ever you can to keep your emotional regulation system in check. Just don’t touch ‘the poison stuff’.

So how they can combine that with a professional sports career, under the glare of the media? Or ‘well-wishing’ breakfast TV shows gushing over their reform. Or responsibilities to other addicts etc. ?

Maybe, they can mutually support each other? Like a scaffolding on a building going up? But even then, the career ends, or building stalls (form dips? reserves?)

I think people will want to see individuals given another chance, but then again, we are like a pack of animals, and we like to single out ‘bad examples’ and banish them to devil’s island.

MFW when the reality is us kicking 6.10 to scrape past the pies by 5 points in rd 1 at spuds game

I hope we get JUH just to kill the narrative about Ross being so boring.

TDK hitting the ball down to Nas, Hall and Pou kicking into a forward line with King, JUH, Ryan and Higgins would be pretty exciting.

Given our backline would probably be our weakest line, we might even try and become a shoot-out team 😅

On the actual topic of List Management... how many players do we have that can truly play multiple positions, effectively?

THe cats are stacked with versatility and it shows (champion data backs if up if anybody listens to SEN on a Tuesday night)

Nas
Sincs
Hall

I don't see a hell of a lot of true, proven versatility after that, I would be identifying this which I think the club has with JSOS and Ryan
Hammer - fwd & back
Tauru - fwd & back
Keeler fwd & ruck (& back?)
Marshall - fwd & ruck
Windy - mid, wing, half back
Owens - fwd, ruck chop
Wood - wing, fwd, back?
Hill - wing, hf, hb
Sharman - fwd & back
Clark - mid, hf, hb
Howard - back & fwd
Wilson - hf, wing and mid
Henry - hf, wing and mid
Hastie - back and wing
Phillipou - hf, mid
Garcia - hf, mid

Yes: Windy, Jones, NWM, Clark, Stocker, Keeler, Marshall, Henry, Pou, Tauru, Dodson, Wood, Sinclair, Hall, Sharman, Heath, Caminiti

No: Higgins, Collard, Macrae, Hill, Steele, Owens, King, Byrnes, Dow, Butler, Carroll, Howard, Wilson, Hastie, Schoemakers, Garcia, Wilkie, O'Connell

Maybe: Travaglia, Boxshall
Goddammit it when will I learn to read all posts before responding to stuff. I'm 8 hrs behind!

He’s been pretty ordinary gringo.

He doesn’t rack up huge numbers at vfl level and has only kicked 4 goals. At afl level he averages about 15 and has kicked 12 goals from 46 games. He’s a classy user and we would have a very good idea of what his talents are but what’s he really worth now.

I guess that he's not attended a heap of ball ups so playing much more outside a true midfield role. I certainly haven't thought that he looked outstanding yet but he's from Phillipou's draft so not fully formed hopefully.

They have them, Day, Newcombe plus Weddle can play mid.

After that some promising younger guys plus Worple, then they have Ginnivan, Watson etc who are all more than just forwards. It’s a sneaky good list much as I hate to say it.

All are probably B+ with some A grade games still. Day is absolutely their most important player almost but I consider them well rounded more than star studded. I love Newcombe because he's old school but he's classy grunt more than superstar yet. I reckon they need another absolute elite mid just to take them from blue collar to blue chip.

I'm still not convinced that Aleer would be in our best 23 players.

Unless it's as the interceptor role that Battle left. He plays well loose. He just can't compete one on one very well.

I'd love to try Marshall back, i think he has enough footy smarts that it would just click.

Im pretty confident you can all stop creaming yourselves about JUH. The Dogs would want at least a high pick in return, then there is the matter of his healthy contract, I doubt any club in the competition would take that risk ATM.

Sydney are desparate for a tall forward and they have had sucess with previous bad boys, but even they are going no where near him.

I dont want to be the kill joy, but I think JUH is just a pipe dream nothing more!

No chance the Dogs think they’re getting a high pick after the year that just went by
