Yeah he’s just a pre Madonna, the cats knew what they were going to get for better or worse

Ultimately if you keep winning it will be a non issue but if the club loses momentum the outside scrutiny will turn into in internal scrutiny

Although I do love the kiddult moniker
So intrigued by this, so many possibilities. Is he pre Madonna - like a product of the 70s?

A pre teen Madonna...fits the kiddult thing?

A pre menstrual Madonna...which would explain a lot?

I think he's part of a greater rise of the new age athlete in Australia, it's only going to become more common IMO.

Knowing you're a fellow league man PB, I think you'll agree that him an Reece Walsh are almost carbon copies of one another. It's no surprise that they're best mates.

What we have here is the first generation coming through that have grown up with social media, and as a result, idolizing their American counterparts.

What we view as dickhead behaviour over here (and it is D/H behaviour) is commonplace over there.

It's almost celebrated, and partly because the US don't attach the title of 'role models' (rightly or wrongly) to young, dumb athletes like we do.

It doesn't even warrant a mention beyond a headline, but over here, we present the behaviour as a character flaw - and it probably is that, to be fair.

It presents an issue going forward IMO, as it's only going to get worse. It's like a form of counter culture that we're not prepared for as an industry.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying I excuse any of the behaviour. What Smith did is unacceptable, and I hate seeing the club I support associated with the headline of intimidatory behaviour towards anyone, particularly an older woman.

I don't think it changes that this rise in arrogant, egocentric behaviour is on the rise in Australian sport though, and it'll be interesting to see who pivots first - the media, or the athletes.

Literally nearly brought up Walsh when I was making that post. Very good comparison. Walsh probably hasn’t quite plumbed - pardon the pun - the depths of unlikeability that Bailey has yet. But he’s got a similar level of desperation of trying to fit a certain mould and in the end if he doesn’t just stop and cut out the crap and be himself, he will end up a Kyrgios or a Tomic and get to a point where it’s irretrievable.

Tomic from what I have read recently has actually realised - far too late - that he needed to pull his head in.

It begs the question, does he ever become a post-Madonna when he finally sorts it all out and stops being a D/H?

Not that I have an interest in whataboutism in this case because Smith is a separate issue altogether but Zorko clearly crossed a line when he started piling shit on someone about their mother.

If we are talking about workplaces the footy field is one too. Say stuff but geez there are a lot of things you can say without getting into that area. The only defence for that is ‘he’s an adult he should be able to handle it.’ If you start using that as a defence, then she’s an adult too and should be able to handle some swear words.

Your post is at least self aware that if you have to bring up Zorko in this thread you’ve already lost.

But no Zorko shouldn’t have said what he said nor should he have allowed himself to be provoked into it. But the reason MFC quickly wanted it to go away once the facts came…despite Allen Richardson condemning it after the game…was because once they found out what several Melbourne players had been saying to Zorko they realised the story would have been much worse for them than Zorko.

Banter on the football field so long as it doesn’t cross the line to what Rankine said is accepted as a psychological tactic.

Abusing and intimidating a lady doing her job in an open training session isn’t comparable. It’s bizarre, unprofessional and people downplaying it must work in pretty terrible work environments if that’s the norm.

Nothing about Zorko harrassing women at hotels or hitting on/sleeping with women while married and with children?...Doesn't just happen on the field mate he's got a terrible rep off of it.

My point was, I didn't say what Bailey did was right, it's horrible and wrong and he's being a dickhead. He should know better.
What i said is its commonplace in the industry.
I could make an example for pretty much every single team in the League with players and horrible behaviour to women.
That's a whole issue in itself, it's not just a Bailey thing, its a professional athlete thing.
Entitlement and thinking they can do what they want with zero reprecussions.

What we do know from this is, Bailey has apologised and she has accepted the apology and asked him to treat her with respect.
The matter is closed, so why is it still going?

I mean you guys embrace Zorko and you guys were shit for years and he's a genuine campaigner of a human being?
Many, many, many stories of how he's treated random women in the past (while in relationships too)

De Goey is a real stand up guy for the Pies and they still support him...even with the DeGropey stuff

Balta can nearly kill someone and Tigers fans wrapped their arms around him

I'm sure i could name another 50 examples but we could be here for hours.

This isn't a Geelong thing, this is a famous person thing. It's happened and he's apologised.
Don't do it again and he'll have nothing to worry about.

I could name a couple of hundred examples dating back to the 70’s. Every club has fckwits playing for them and every clubs fans embrace them and defend them irrespective of what they did.

Fair enough and if they had been saying similar shit then that’s a bad rap on them too.

When he swapped the red, white and blue hoops for the navy blue and white hoops those of us that had watched him closely for 6 years knew exactly what was going to play out when things didn’t go his way. The fact he’s acting like this and he’s in good form and in a prelim gets us even more worried for his medium and long term future.
Not to get in the way of your story but let’s just look at facts:

at the bulldogs he was on drugs, had to step away from the game due to mental health, ended up being institutionalized.

Fast forward to his time at geelong, which he claims is the best state his been in for years. And the worst offense is he has given the middle finger 3 times this year.

If that was an everyday child of a family, the parents would be in Tears at the transformation and giving the GFC gifts.

That's exactly my point, this isn't just a Bailey problem.
This is a professional athlete problem. They think they are untouchable.

I’m done with the back and forth on this issue
Geelong supporters are insufferable, zero accountability

Can’t wait to see the supportive rhetoric around your other problem once it’s allowed to be released to the public.
That will be some interesting reading seeing you all justify his actions

Thoughts on Jordan DeGoey mate? How about Dane Swan?

Or does that stone only get thrown one way?...we are done with your Pies supportive rhetoric and hypocritical nature.

Dont Accuse Me Glass House GIF by Snowfall

Kane Cornes was just doing his job and Beveridge gave him an aggressive serve. Is he perpetrating domestic violence or something as well

Trying to sweep it under the rug?

You’re trying to hold someone on the internet accountable for the behaviour of someone they’ve never met, who works for a organisation I have nothing to do with, who I am actively criticising, mate. You have problems nearly as big as Smith himself if that’s how you feel.
If you are saying Kane Cornes is doing his job, then HR would have Kane out the door in a heartbeat because of systemic industrial level bullying that has been going on for 5 or 6 years now relentlessly. Both overt and carefully hidden too. Kane is the serial offender here in every way. Bevo is the one calling it out.

It's really not a big deal, I wrote "Baz doing Baz things" earlier in this thread, that's all it is.

Is he a bit of a dickhead? Yep. Is it the perfect preparation for the Cats as a club? Probably not but hardly the worst thing - Baz has shown he performs when this sort of stuff is happening.

Not a hangable offence. Apology should've probably been face to face but again, hardly a hangable offence. Time to move on.

Can we just pin this post before more Tiger and Pies supporters show up to lay the boots in while supporting guys like De Goey and Balta on their lists?

They both struggle with the archetype you mention IMO, it all stems from trying to be someone they're not.

Walsh at least had a pretty tough upbringing by reports, so his brashness might be a bit more legitimate. Bailey's a kid from East Malvern who went to Xavier.

Maybe this is just who he is, but from the outside it does feel like he's trying to copy someone like McGregor, or various NBA/NFL stars who actually did do it tough growing up, which shaped their personalities into who they are.

Shannon Sharpe has a great quote on it about people 'posing' so to speak, went along the lines of: "They didn't choose that life, it's just what they got. Don't try to pretend you had it too, because they'd switch spots with you in a heartbeat"

Then again, I don't know the guy, so I could be way off.

Exactly. Geez I can reel off a number of instances where things have been allowed to slide through to the keeper. But it’s not just a Geelong thing. I was surprised however that Tyson S got off so lightly (media attention wise) being so recent.
I was more responding to the high-profile bit

And don’t get me started on Mick Turner’s windows

Did he learn it from his coach?

The incident involving Scott and the female AFL staff member surrounded the coach’s bemusement at the presence of an accredited media figure at his post-game press conference.

????????????????????????????

This is the best unintentional misspelling I have ever seen. Well done

You've gotta laugh at the choice of photos in that article.

"He's the bad guy in this one, put aside the happy photos and put angry ones in!"
We should have seen the signs!
