Strangely calm about tonight.

I did end up getting tickets so ill be there, and basically in the same spot I sit during the year.

Need a good start, need to move the ball quick enough that it spreads their defence but not so quick that we leave Barrass and Sicily to perform Moore-like intercepts.

It would be disingenuous to suggest that we could have lost it at selection. It is as good a team as we can name excluding Izak Rankine (yes, Butts/Murray and Smith/Dowling are 50/50 calls).

A key issue last week was the match-ups. I felt this prior to the match (Max in attack) and McRae exploited this.

The second problem was our use of the extra man in defence. Collingwood placed their extra (often Moore) behind all the other defenders and he ran forward to intercept when we turned the ball over or won a stoppage. Our spare was often between the stoppage and the other forwards/defenders and he watched the ball sail over his head. I don’t expect Hawthorn to use a plus one but Mitchell is a good tactical coach so who knows.

The success of our coaches will be determined by the match-ups we make. Hawthorn use Impey and Amon to run the ball out of the D50 and can create opportunities for their forwards. They also have three good intercept defenders (Barrass, Battle and Sicily). They will try to play Sicily off his man so we need to use Tex if/when he is free. Hawthorn have dangerous forwards but the one to lock down is old man Gunston and to minimise the influence of the pests (Ginnivan and Watson).

Neither midfield is outstanding. ROB has to at least break even and our outside mids (Cumming, Curtin) have to produce more. Hawthorn had a lot of drive from their wings when they were on top of GWS so it’s time to shine boys.

The final wildcard is Weddle. He can play back, midfield or high half forward so he will ask some questions.

Crows by 8 points.

I feel like this is a 50/50 game and will be won in the coaches box

Mitchell will have a McRae type plan for us, Nicks needs a counter to that, not let a defender run around at will taking intercepts, shut down Newcombe and their forwards.

You forgot that Hawks also have a six day break from Sydney while we have an 8 day break from home. Just putting that out there

Can we please get off to a good start. Seems like we’ve been so slow out of the blocks against the better teams lately. Get jumped early and fighting back the whole game.
We've become the hunted and I'm not sure if we know how to deal with that yet. Probably the last 6-8 weeks is the first time this team have ever consistently gone into games not being underdogs or 50/50 at best.

People are underestimating how big Rachele’s inclusion is. Yes, he’ll be underdone, but he’s a forward pocket that needs to get it 10 times not a midfielder needing 30. A few special moments or smart assists will make a world of difference.

Rachele was tracking AA at the start of the year before his first injury, and picked up where he left off before his knee.

By the sounds of things he’s been nothing but professional with his rehab and I bet has been chomping at the bit to get out there.

Rachele 3 goals
Thilthorpe 3 goals
Tex 2 goals

Crows by 25.

Hawthorn are a momentum team, they can have periods where other teams pile on goals or the opposite where they pile on goals, who ever scores more while they have momentum will win this particular game.

This could be Tex's last ever game and I just want to say if that happens to be it, I hope you have a ripping game Tex and thankyou for giving us 301 amazing games, love you.
